Acid House Mix (1988 - 1990) (2013)

I hate waking up early. I really do. But I am a morning person. It does take me a while to properly wake up, and this morning the wife had to take the train early, so I had to wake up earlier too. Now I'm sitting here, already working for nearly 1 1/2 hour, And normally I would be listening to something to wake me up, something hard and rough (and quite violent), but not today. After seeing a video yesterday of DJs guessing track names and titles (it's this highly popular thing on YouTube), the latest video was focussed on Acid House, so my heart started beating faster, and now I'm into the Acid House sound we don't hear anymore. The early stuff. And seeing as you are reading this, you are too?!

You've probably read the title of this review and thought 'oh, I'll have a bit of that'. And that's a good statement, because who doesn't like Acid House? Who can honestly say they dislike Acid House? And to think that there are generations of kids being born that have never heard of Acid House? It's unbelievable. How can you walk this Earth not knowing what this glorious sound is? It's beyond belief!

The mix you are about to listen to, was uploaded onto YouTube back in 2013, nearly 10 years ago, and was made by Procc23. Never seen or heard of that name before, so we will dive straight into the tracklist, and that's the reason why you are here, right?

There are the most well known Acid House tracks in here, and a few obscure ones. And even though it is a short mix, it's still a gorgeous one, and you get to hear 16 wicked tracks. But which tracks am I referring to? Well, these:

  1. Maurice - This Is Acid

  2. Fast Eddie Smith - Can U Dance

  3. Kraze - The Party

  4. Terry Baldwin (Housemaster) feat But Lator - I Have A Dream

  5. Wood Allen - Airport 89

  6. Jungle Crew - Elektric Dance

  7. Donne - Come Get My Lovin'

  8. Reese & Santonio - Back To The Beat (With ''The Sound'')

  9. Clubland feat Quartz - Let's Get Busy

  10. Black Riot - A Day In The Life

  11. Inner City - Big Fun

  12. Bam Bam - Give It To Me

  13. A Guy Called Gerald - Voodoo Ray

  14. DJK - Crazy

  15. Bam Bam - Where's Your Child?

  16. Aphex Twin - Analogue Bubblebath

Oh, the nostalgia. Can't believe these tracks are between 32 and 34 years old. I am a tad older, but still it's unbelievable to think that these are 3 decades old already! Why does time fly by all of a sudden? Who said that we could leave Acid House back in the late 80s/early 90s, and not bring it with us to the present day? Why did it all change?

Unfortunately I was too young to go out raving when Acid House dominated the world, and I can only imagine how awesome it must have been. Being in your 20s-30s and hearing this on the dancefloor. Basic speaker set, simple lightening equipment, and that's it. And maybe a few bits of 'happy pills' to get you in the zone. But just to be there and experience this, I would have danced the night away and have big fun!

This is a jolly good sounding mix. Procc23 made this mix, and it stood the test of time. I am indeed having big fun, to quote Inner City. And as commercial as the song was (and still is), it is my favourite of this mix. It just brings a smile on my face. This mix in general does, but this song just brightens my day.

Check this mix out, and go back in time. When the music was underground and new, and something your parents would deny you access to, as it was the forbidden fruit... music made by the Devil!
