BLUTONIUM Records Classics Showcase Vol.2 (2005 and before) (28.04.2023)

Saturday has emerged, and we are on a roll today. Well, on a roll maybe not the right term to use. But I've awoken early, because today is going to be a good day. As most of you will know, I've been living in the UK for the last 7 years, and I am Dutch (no shit, what's the name of this website?). And today, in London, they are celebrating King's Day. So guess what I'll be doing today? Celebrating my Dutch heritage, and going to wear an orange shirt (don't expect more from this introvert). On the way to London, I need something that keeps my enthusiasm level high, and that reminds me of when I was still living there, in the Netherlands. And guess what? Audioholik has got my back!

For nearly 33 years I lived in the Netherlands, and was a huge fan of dance music in general. And Hardstyle was one of the styles I grew up with, especially when it was hot as fuck. I was a Hardstyle fanatic, and bought every single album on the market from my local Free Record Shop, or my local 'underground' CD store Satisfaction in Heerlen. I've spent a few thousand (or more), so they were always happy to see me coming in. They hated it, when I moved country, as their loyal customer would not purchase anything anymore, but hey ho, that's life.

When Hardstyle dominated my life, one of the labels that I was into, was Blutonium Records. It wasn't the only label, but it was one of the labels that released records that sounded exactly the way I wanted Hardstyle to be. They had a distinctive sound I really appreciated, and hearing those classic anthems again, in 2023, just brings back a smile on my face. That's early Hardstyle for me.

The label started back in 1998, and is still going strong. That I didn't know. But the focus of this mix isn't the new stuff, it's the stuff from 2005 and earlier, the real early Hardstyle stuff. And if you are interested, this is the second instalment: there's another mix you might appreciate, also made by Audioholik: go check out his Soundcloud channel for more information.

I genuinely didn't know who was behind the name, and that Blutonium Boy retired back in 2009! Well, that's what is stated on Discogs, yet I'm seeing a lot of albums being released under his alias way after 2009? Is he or isn't he still active?

What I didn't know either, was that Blutonium Boy was German? Thinking about it, yeah, it does make sense now: the sound resembled a lot of other German artists too. But I never put 2 and 2 together. Well, that makes me a silly Dutchman, eh?

I grew up with this sound, and I really appreciate it a lot. It will give me enough energy to sit through today's celebrations. It will be a tad dull, but you have to embrace your heritage, which includes not just things Dutch, but also things that you grew up with. And Blutonium Boy and Blutonium Records were there for me during my youth, my teenage years.

Audioholik has done it yet again! He's made yet another wicked mix, worth your precious time. Listen to this mix (and his other mixes) , and dive into the world we call early Hardstyle. And get accustom with the sound. I really miss, adore, and love this sound. It is a sound left behind in the Millennium decade, but it's worthy enough to revive again. We need this sound back, and we need it NOW!
