Bonkers 13 Tribute Mixed By M@rt!n-J (2021)

Some days you wake up, and have a good feeling in your stomach. Other days, you might wake up and feel absolutely dreadful. On those days you need something to cheer you up, and a few days ago I woke up really messed up, and then Soundcloud informed me about a new mix, which was uploaded, and immediately did I feel 10 times better. Readers of this blog site know that I'm a huge fan of M@rt!n-J, and he's a regular contributor to this site. It's like every other day he uploads a new mix, and it can be as diverse as you like. But for today's mix, he's gone back in time, to the golden years of UK Hardcore.

If you don't know the Bonkers series, are you even Hardcore? Everyone knows the Bonkers series, and it's been successful since its first release back in the day. Obviously we know what has happened (HU took ownership of the Bonkers series and released new albums using the HU name). But back in 1996 React decided to release an album, and this series was alive until 2009. Many well knows DJ contributed to this series, including DJs such as Hixxy, Sharkey, Scott Brown, Sy, Gammer, Dougal, Chris Unknown, Re-Con, Vibes Brisk & Ham, and the list goes on and on. Basically the finest DJs in the UK Hardcore scene.

Back in 2004 the thirteenth instalment was released, and this one was a 4 CD compilation, mixed by DJ Hixxy, Sharkey, Scott Brown, and Dougal. You don't need to be reminded of this album, you all have this one, and all the other 18 albums. To me the 13th, 16th, and 18th are the finest of this series. Not a fan of the early stuff, but that's just personal.

As you would have expected, M@rt!n-J has made yet another tribute mix. I completely forgot he already made one for Bonkers 12. But today's focus is the thirteenth Bonkers CD. A fine CD with memorable anthems. And this mix contains the finest of the 4 CDs. It's like M@rt!n-J read my mind, and hand picked the ones I really loved back then (and still do). And he does end with some Gabber anthems! Credit to him for ending it the way it should be done!

So which amazing records has he picked? Well, these:

  1. Eclipse - Be Happy

  2. Gammer - Back 2 Front

  3. Euphoria - Silver Dawn

  4. Dougal & Gammer feat Jenna - Heaven On Earth

  5. CLSM feat Stefan Booth - Drifting Away

  6. Scott Brown - Pro-To-Plasm

  7. Insight - Only Your Love (Scott Brown's Evolution Remix)

  8. Scott Brown - Rock Tha Beat

  9. Uplift - Night Flight

  10. Dougal & Gammer - Xtreme

  11. Plus System - Let's All Get Down

  12. Dreadhed feat MC Casper - Chemicals In Motion

  13. Nosferatu - Have It Your Way

  14. The Viper & Tommyknocker feat Da Mouth Of Madness - The Prophecy Unfolds (Tha Playah Remix)

  15. Brisk & Vagabond - Punchdrunk

  16. Scott Brown - A Few Moments

I can never get tired of the music which was released around 2004-2005. I've got only love and appreciation for the music from that era. And also love for the Bonkers series: it is one of those series which sparked my enthusiasm for UK Hardcore. It wasn't the first, but certainly an important factor in my love for the scene and the sound.

Doesn't this spark your love for the Millennium sound again? Come on, this must make you happy, right? Well, if it doesn't, you aren't human.

So, M@rt!n-J's mix. He picked 16 anthems from this thirteenth mix. He could have picked any from the 77 records, but I'm happy with his selection. He's picked a lot of awesome tracks with a distinctive sound, one you can immediately link to the Millennium sound. So unique and fresh. You don't hear this kind of Hardcore enough anymore.

16 AMAZING records, but only one can be the ultimate record. And I've got to give the credit to Dreadhed feat MC Casper (a.k.a. Vagabond) - Chemicals In Motion. Always loved his take on Hardcore. Don't hear that style anymore.

A fantastic mix by a regular contributor. Hopefully he will contribute more mixes like this one. Or make one bad ass long mix, with records from ALL CDs in the series. Why not?

Ps. if you find the time, why not check out the other Bonkers dedication mix? Have fun, blast from the past, eh?
