The WEEKEND is here! Finally, after a long and arduous week it's time for us to wind down. But still remain vigilant, and kill the Omicron virus and COVID-19. You don't want to catch it, and if you are planning on going out this weekend, rave safely! We don't want you to get ill: we just want you to get HARDCORE! And what a way to start our weekend with: a Ruffneck classics mix! The mighty Dutch label that has given us many exciting anthems over the years. And who's the DJ behind this mix? Well, none other than DJ A.K.
Oldschool Hardcore is just the best. We are all just saying it because it's true. I finally understand my parents when they say 'the music of our generation was much better, the music we grew up with'. The same applies to all of us, 'oldies'. I don't understand the present day music as much as I want to. It isn't as elegant or as smooth as the 90s and early 2000s music. And imho, Ruffneck was one of those important labels during the 90s that gave us the tunes we were waiting for. But not just that: this label was the birth place of timeless classics!
DJ A.K has given us many memorable mixes before, but this just tickles me slightly more and more. Could it be because I am Dutch and have a affection for Hardcore music? Is it because Hardcore music runs through my veins? And stroopwafels too of course.
The mix is filled with the biggest records of this legendary label, and when I say the biggest, I do mean the biggest. But this could be a tricky thing to ask you readers: can you spot who's behind the aliases? Is it all made by DJ Ruffneck? He's one of those producers who nearly had a new alias each week, and I lost track on which is and which isn't a Ruffneck production. Could be a funny game? Spot the Ruffneck!

Now this is a good looking tracklist, wouldn't you agree? If you are into Ruffneck and his label, you will think that this is a mix that might give you an eargasm. This is basically my youth in a mix, all crammed in an hour long mix. So many, and I do mean so many awesome tunes were released on this label. They were one of the most important labels of the 90s, without a shadow of a doubt.
DJ A.K.'s selection is a good 'un. These songs were played at many events during the 90s, and even in 2021 they are played (well, sporadically, because the amount of events has dramatically been reduced due to COVID-19). And if you were a CD hoarder like myself, you would find these songs on many compilations. They were everywhere. And all those compilations I bought. I spent a fortune in CD stores. To no avail, as we've gone all digital now. But it's a nice memory to think back of.
I have only got love and appreciation for this mix. So many wicked anthems, so many memories. And the best record of this mix has got to be 'Mind Of A Lunatic'. Such a great and powerful anthem.
Thanks A.K. for yet another wicked mix! Highly recommendable.
