DJ Jedi 1993-1997 Happy Hardcore Mix ‘Lost DAT’ 2003?

The world is celebrating the Queen's Jubilee, and what am I doing? Well, I'm celebrating the fact that in the 90s a new kind of music emerged, which grabbed my attention from the start, and still to this day holds its value. The music style in question? Happy Hardcore. The sound I adore and still to this day appreciate. The sound I grew up with. Yes, during the 90s it was mostly Hardcore/Gabber and Happy Hardcore, and they both are close to my heart, but the happier side of Hardcore always remained one of my favourite styles. And DJ Jedi's mix is one you will need to sit down for, and appreciate.

Happy Hardcore can sometimes be completely ignored. In the UK it was big, and so in Europe, but it's sometimes looked at in a different way. And I'm not saying it's the best style out there, but it's certainly in the top 5 of my all time favourite styles. I grew up with it, and it was part of my youth. I raved the night away in my bedroom. I still find it a very interesting style to listen to, especially as my influence was mostly European Happy Hardcore, NOT UK Happy Hardcore. So I'm still discovering new music every so often.

So DJ Jedi. I know him from his Breakbeat Hardcore mixes, but it seems he's a man who can do everything. This mix, found on a DAT, was probably made around 2003, only a handful of years after the inevitable death of Happy Hardcore. And it's a nice mixture of both Dutch and UK sounding Happy Hardcore songs. You'll know what I mean once you have a look at the tracklist.

And here's the tracklist:

  1. NRG - I Need Your Love

  2. Orca - 4AM

  3. Bass Selective - Blow Out Part 2

  4. Jack 'N Phil - Unity

  5. The Dok - Your Love

  6. Naughty Naughty - Volume 5 (Side A)

  7. Ramos & Supreme - Sunshine (The Pa Kua Mix)

  8. Dougal & Vibes - Dance With Me

  9. Jimmy J & Cru-L-T - Take Me Away (Slipmatt Remix)

  10. Vibes & Wishdokta - Feel Good

  11. Jimmy J & Cru-L-T - Six Days

  12. DJ Seduction - So In Love (Vibes & Wishdokta Remix)

  13. DJ Seduction - Samplemania

  14. JDS - Higher Love (Slipmatt Remix)

  15. Silk Cuts - Volume 6 (Side A)

  16. Force & Styles - Pretty Green Eyes

  17. 4 Tune Fairytales - My Little Fantasy (Special Edition Remix)

  18. Brisk & Trixxy - Eyeopener

  19. DJ Paul Elstak - Don't Leave Me Alone

It's a nice mixture of both UK and European Hardcore. A few all time classics in here, like Paul Elstak's song, DJ Seduction's 'Samplemania', and more. But to, the all time favourite, has to be the JDS 'Higher Love' song, remixed by the Godfather of Happy Hardcore himself, Slipmatt. This version still remains one of my, if not my all time favourite Happy Hardcore songs. It's a classic, and still packs a punch, many years after its release.

DJ Jedi's mix is highly entertaining, and a tad diverse. I have to say it's nicely mixed, but... yes, there's a but. I'm not fond of a few version. But don't let that throw you off. It's personal, nothing else.

For example, I do like the 'My Little Fantasy', but the Bass-D & King Matthew remix. Same applies to 'Pretty Green Eyes'. I do find the original version a bit bland. It needs a bit of spice. Maybe a bit more cheese. But they still take me back to my youth, these 'normal' versions.

A nice mix. If it's from 2003, we don't know. Hell, even DJ Jedi doesn't know. Whenever this was made, it's stood the test of time. Happy or not, who cares? Take a trip back to the glorious Breakbeat filled Happy Hardcore, and smile the night away!!!
