Let me explain something: I am weird. And I am fully aware of it. I am a certified idiot. Classified as a dangerous idiot. And I am happy with it. I live in my own bubble, and happy to live in it. You might be wondering why I am explaining something that most of you lot already know of? Well, I am a music freak. More like a freak with a musical disorder: I need to have music playing at least a few time a day. I cannot live without hearing music. Music is one of the reasons that gets me up in the morning, and keeps me going through the day. And thanks to my little girlfriend Alexa I am able to listen to music in each room of the house. And roughly an hour ago I was ironing (how interesting), and wanted to hear some Hardcore music. She didn't recognise it, so I decided to listen to Hardstyle. Guess which record was the first played? Well, it was a track made by none other than Headhunterz!
I obviously started to listen to more of his records, and I had to find a mix containing more of his records in here, especially the early stuff too. And while most of Europe are watching the Dutch play (and loose) football, I'd rather listen to excellent music. And hearing Headhunterz, that sparks the Dutchness in me. I am born a Dutchman, and nothing else enlightens my orange heart more than Headhunterz's music. It's got something special, something nostalgic. I feel so blessed to have been born in a country where the harder styles are born/created and embraced. I can't picture myself living in another country, not experiencing the awesome styles we've got in NL.
No one seems to capture this feeling more than Headhunterz. His music touches my soul, and makes my orange heart beat faster, harder, and it gives me a lot of happiness. I am a proud Dutchman whenever I hear a Headhunterz song. Obviously not his EDM escapade, but hey ho, he's back. Like he never left.
So 2 years ago Scantraxx uploaded a mix onto Youtube, a tribute mix to Headhunterz. And of course is it fucking filled with excellent songs by the legend, the mighty Headhunterz. And before haters start pouring onto this review, let's all agree that he has achieved some significant success within the scene, and we should be proud of what he has created. A whole cult following. He isn't the only Hardstyle artist within the scene, granted. But he's one of the biggest names in the scene, if not the biggest. His achievement should be embraced, and acknowledged, even by the haters.
So which records were selected by the Scantraxx crew? Well, these:
Headhunterz - The Sacrifice
Headhunterz - Psychedelic
Headhunterz - The Power Of The Mind (Qlimax 2007 Anthem)
Headhunterz - Takin' It Back
Proppy & Heady - Summer Of Hardstyle
Headhunterz - Scrap Attack (Defqon.1 Anthem 2009)
Headhunterz & Wildstylez - Blame It On The Music
Headhunterz & Tatu - Colors
Headhunterz & Sound Rush feat Eurielle - Rescue Me
Headhunterz feat SIAN EVANS - Orange Heart
Headhunterz, Wildstylez & Noisecontrollers - World Of Madness (Defqon.1 Anthem 2012)
Headhunterz - Oxygen
Headhunterz - Rock Civilization
Headhunterz - Destiny
Headhunterz - From Within
Headhunterz & Abject - Scantraxx Rootz
Headhunterz, Wildstylez & Noisecontrollers - Tonight
Headhunterz - Dragonborn
Headhunterz - Hate Or Love It
Headhunterz - Subsonic
Headhunterz & Sub Zero Project - Our Church
And The Netherlands lost. Ok, bye bye. Nothing lost here. The Dutch are probably sulking right now, and I'm sitting here, happy as Larry. Seriously, I care more about music. Headhunterz's mix is what got me through this evening. Instead of hearing the wife screaming and shouting at the TV, I'd rather hear his tunes coming at me through my speakers.
Obviously there's more to Headhunterz than just these 21 records. He's made tons more, but Scantraxx just selected these 21, otherwise the mix would be hours long. But those 21 records are truly astonishing records, and are probably my favourite Hardstyle anthems anyway. Well, not all 21, but most of these.
So many memorable anthems. These will certainly get you in a better mood. And it will make you wish the lockdown ends sooner than later. We need to rave again: sitting at home behind your PC/laptop isn't the greatest way to experience music. And Headhunterz, you just need to experience his set. That's my goal: to witness a Headhunterz set. I just have to.
Thousands of fans, screaming at each song he plays. All melodic Hardstyle anthems. And in a way he just keeps on creating these wicked anthems. Track after track is just pure gold. Seriously, just look (and listen) at the tracklist, and you know what I mean. Solid anthems, come on!
So pleased to hear this right now, just what I needed. And 'Our Church' is the perfect record to end the set with. This has got to be my favourite, closely followed by 'Oxygen' (which has got a special meaning to me and the wife). And 'Scrap Attack'. And 'World Of Madness'. And 'From Within'.
Don't sulk on the Dutch loosing. Just think of what we have gained by the reintroduction of Headhunterz to the scene.
