The year is 2002. The world was suffering from another epidemic, namely the Trance epidemic. The whole world was in awe of this wicked music style, and as usual, ID&T made sure the raving community got what they really needed. Trance Energy took place in the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht, the Netherlands, and the line-up might have looked so tasty, you would really be a complete idiot to have missed this edition! Let me name everyone that played at that year's event: Alex M.O.R.P.H, Blank & Jones, Cosmic Gate, Jean, Rank 1, Johan Gielen, Bart Claessen, Jurgen, Mark van Dale, Pronti & Kalmani, Bas & Ram, Dumone, Francois, Kai Tracid, and Yves Deruyter. Now that's a fucking epic line-up.
Fast forward 18 years in the future, and partying has seized. COVID has taken over control, and we are sitting here, enjoying live feeds on social media, trying to feel like we are raving again. But it's not the same. And will it ever be the same? Time will tell, but for now the online community is the only one that keeps us from losing the plot. We need music, and we need it, like a drip: constantly hitting us, at the right pace, and the right intensity. And today I'm taking you back to 2002. Guess which event I am talking about?
That's obviously a silly question: it's Trance Energy I am talking about. And the set was by Johan Gielen. After browsing the internet I found out that many seem to liked his set a lot. And by looking at the tracklist I can fully understand why people love his set. So many great anthems from a forgotten era. 2 hours of early 2000s Trance music. Who would not want to hear that?
Trance Energy was obviously a big event back in the days. Don't know why they ever stopped organising them. Can't remember if I have actually been to a Trance Energy. I've been to quite a few events, and some I have completely missed due to me being intoxicated. But if I had a time machine I would definitely go back to the years Trance Energy took place, and rave my ass off.
Time to look at the tracklist and enjoy the music!

Wow. What a tracklist! I have been following Trance for a few years now, and I am still amazed by its strength. It doesn't matter from which decade Trance music is, it remains timeless music. Works of art. Not every record is, but the majority can be seen as wicked. And Johan Gielen's set is packed with awesome records. Don't just believe me, believe the 17k+ listeners on Soundcloud!
It's so damn good to hear these classic anthems again. I've forgotten about a few. Sadly you don't hear them all over and over again: it's not the early noughties anymore. But it's good that in 2020 I am enjoying the music I grew up with. And Johan Gielen did his best to get everyone dancing in the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht.
The last time I remember seeing him was back in 2002, at the Mega Music Dance Experience, also held in the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht. Haven't seen him since sadly.
His set is excellent, and packed with truly epic anthems. From Trance to Hard Trance, everything is in here. And there are two records I could not leave aside: 'Awesome!' by Mauro Picotto and 'Club Bizarre' by Brooklyn Bounce, remixed by Scot Project. Those are the two records that come to mind when I think of the word 'epic', and in 2020 they still hold their value as being dancefloor destroyers!
Damn, why does good music sometimes change? The Trance from 2020 does not sound anything like the early days, and boy, those early days were fucking epic! Johan's set is one that you need to listen to, to feel euphoric, and get that nostalgic feeling of the early years of Trance. Or the Millennium Trance sound. Whatever it's called, it's great!
