Oldskool Johnny - Decade Of Early Hardcore (2023)

Another event on my list to visit before I die. But it's a bit far out, just to visit an event in Culemborg, the Netherlands. But it would be so worth it. It would take me a minimum of 7 hours to get there. What would I get in return? An awesome line-up, all dedicated to the early Hardcore sound. The event that took place last year, in September, had some big names. Delirium, Bass-D, Painbringer, Predator, Arjuna, Pavo, Waxweazle, Radium, Resonant Squad, Gabber Syndrome, and the man who's mix I've only found today: Oldskool Johnny.

The reason I am now listening to this mix, is because I found his Ghosttown set from this year, and it did not have a tracklist, but the set was dope as fuck. So I scoured the internet and found this one on his Soundcloud page that came with a tracklist. That makes me happy, trust me when I saw that it does. I did love his Ghosttown set a lot, but now I've found one with a tracklist, so I'll share that one instead.

I don't know much about this artist, but he has caught my attention. I'm guessing, based on his name, that he likes the oldskool/early stuff. And frankly, who doesn't? But he's one of those producers/DJs who are keeping the early sound alive, by producing new music in the style of the old. And you know I'm a sucker for that stuff. Give me that newskool oldskool sound any day!

He did 65 minutes at Decade Of Early Hardcore, and played 24 records. And if you aren't sure who he is and what he can do, he's got your back: he's included a lot of his own productions in here, which are very sexy anthems.

This has been an interesting journey. I've not heard of this artist before, but he has certainly gained my respect for keeping the early sound alive. He's that new kind of breed that keeps it alive, but does it extremely well. And I'm not the only one who responds extremely positive to this new batch of producers: his mixes get so many positive feedback/comments.

I truly admire people who do things differently, and even though it reminds me of the 90s, it's still extremely refreshing to hear these new anthems. This newskool kind of Gabber I really like, and the hour has certainly flown by.

He has captured the 90s sound beautifully, and it all goes bonkers when you hear 'Go To My Show'. My God, this is already an amazing record, but it's got the potential to become a classic, like most 90s records became. That's the kind of Hardcore I truly admire, adore, and fucking love.

What a wicked journey, and I'm glad to have discovered a new artist. I will certainly keep my eyes and ears peeled for more, and so should you. This is insane. A fantastic set, and a name we will see more of in the future. If not, I will eat my baseball cap.
