Selectabwoy's Platinum Breakz Mix (2021)

Another review coming up. This time it's not Gabber, and not Hardstyle, but Drum and Bass. Another style much appreciated by yours truly. And also another mix by Selectabwoy, who we can always appreciate a LOT! And this time he has decided to go back in time, to 1996, and the album that was released that year: 'Platinum Breakz' by Metalheadz, the label that took the world by storm, and has been an influential label ever since. This is one of the Metalheadz's CDs that I actually own, and still one of my most favourite DnB/Jungle album of all time. But it was never a mixed CD, but thankfully Selectabwoy decided to put all the tracks into one amazing mix, one you will appreciate a lot!

Some DJs are just extremely under appreciated, and Selectabwoy is one of them. He's been such a huge force on Soundcloud, with hundreds of excellent mixes. You name it, and he's made a mix of it. He was actually a DJ I voted for in the DJ Mag Top 100 malarky. He deserves a bigger stage, as he's been providing the world with some tremendously excellent mixes. But before I start kissing his arse too much, let's focus on the mix, and the album all these tracks were taken of.

If you go onto Discogs, you will find a lot of reviews. A lot of positive reviews. Some go into a lot of details describing what this album had done to them, and how much of an impact this album has had over the years. Some say these CDs were very important to the DnB fanatics, and some just say CD 1 was much better, and CD 2 was weaker. Whatever your opinion is of this album, we all know for sure that the tracks on this compilation have stood the test of time, and do make an appearance in multiple mixes and CDs over the years. Fan favourite songs are on this, and an obvious choice by Selectabwoy to turn this unmixed CD into one mix.

If you have never heard of this CD, or never seen the tracks which were on this, let me show you the tracklist of Selectabwoy's mix. You won't know what hits you: DnB classic, one after the other!

If you are a Drum and Bass fan, you know each and every tune in this mix. And you might even say that 'The Unofficial Ghost' or 'Armoured D' are your favourite records, right? Or am I completely wrong? What is your favourite song of this mix/this album? Leave a comment below!

There are just simply 17 amazing records. They are heavy hitters, all of them. Some are so damn hard and rough, and some are 'lighter' compared to the others. For example, 'The Unofficial Ghost' is indeed a hard, rough, heavy hitting song. And yes, my favourite of this mix/CD too!

Small side note: am I the only one who dislikes 'Pulp Fiction' a tiny bit? This track must have appeared in every bloody DnB mix ever made. Never a fan of the film. The track is a solid track, but because of overkill I cannot hear this song anymore. I need a couple of years of NOT hearing it for it to become a favourite again.

A solid mix by Selectabwoy again. But I would never question his skills as a DJ. Each and every mix has always spot on, and even when we weren't ready for a new mix, he always surprised me with a new mix. He has made a blessed mix, and one that you might need to hear, if you are fed up of hearing Xmas tunes everywhere. Get some DnB down you, and learn a bit more about the history, and what the sound was that was produced back in 1996. A glorious year for DnB.

Fuck it, I've just changed my mind. Best song has to be 'Your Sound' by J Majik. Reminds me of Goldie's Essential Mix he did back in the day. One of the finest mixes EVER made.
