Sound Abuse - Oldschool Sessions #07 (2023)

The weekend has started, so let's crank up the volume, and go nuts. Not as nuts as the ladies in the above picture, but weird enough that people will notice us going bonkers. Let's crank up the volume, and let the oldskool vibes come through our speakers. Toward the end of last year I found a mix series which grabbed my attention, and it was done by Sound Abuse. This Dutch duo has captured my interest, and now the follow up mix has appeared on Soundcloud, so it's time for us to listen to it.

I love the oldskool/oldskool sound a lot. And when I do find mixes that are not your standard run of the mill-type of mixes, it raises my enthusiasm levels to the maximum. And the seventh instalment of this series has got the classics in them, which you don't hear very often. Tracks ranging from the early 90s to the late 90s. You can find literally anything in here, but mostly classics we've all forgotten about.

Hardcore is certainly the power. It is one of the most powerful sounds out there, and if it has grabbed you and you are completely in awe of what it does, you will certainly like Sound Abuse's latest mix. Trust me when I say that, it is definitely filled with the obscure and forgotten gems. And I hate to say it, but even I have forgotten these tunes existed! And I call myself a true Hardcore fan? Yeah, right.

Obviously you are curious now, aren't you? You want to know desperately what's in this mix, and which tunes you have forgotten about? Thankfully it came with a tracklist, and for that, kudos.

  1. Naked Steal - Vive La France

  2. Darrien Kelly & The Stunned Guys - Now!

  3. Miss Groovy meets The Wolf - Angels (Miss Groovy Remix)

  4. DJ Waxweazle & Guitar Rob - Our Nightmare

  5. Knightvision - Knight Of Visions

  6. Izomatrick - Rage Of The Machine

  7. Buzz Fuzz - Chemical Overdrive

  8. Sigma 909 - Hardcore Is The Power

  9. Sonicdriver & Wicked E - The Darkside

  10. Big Deal - Your Conscious

  11. Dutch Verg - Syndrum

  12. Master Bation - House Of Hell (DJ Jordens & DJ Pavo Remix)

  13. 3 Steps Ahead - Hakkuh

  14. DJ Jordens vs Flamman & Abraxas - Sarin

  15. Drokz - Bust That Ass

  16. The Stunned Guys - Fuck All

  17. Psykopunk - S.O.A.B.

  18. Igor - Talking About God (Oops, There Goes The Gain)

A quick glance at this list and it shows me tracks I've not heard in a decade, or even two decades! Completely forgotten about, and it is definitely a shame. There's one track in this mix that blew my mind away when it appeared on a Thunderdome CD, and it has stuck with me for a while, but just got covered up by the thousands of excellent tunes that came out of the scene. Hidden, but thankfully never completely forgotten.

Thanks to mixes like this one, we get the chance to relive the past. And it can be a glorious throwback to a decade we all love, and miss. Sound Abuse have done a wicked thing, and it's yet another epic mix full of excellent tunes. A trip down memory lane. More please, more!

The best Hardcore anthems were released between 1996 and 1998. If you disagree, leave a comment below as to why you disagree. Would be interesting to know why though.

I got into Hardcore around 1993, and the early stuff was as hard as you could imagine it to be. It became more sophisticated (thankfully), but it would sometimes go back to the rough years, and the tunes would have the potential to demolish speakers. My favourite record in this mix was made by Drokz, and called 'Bust That Ass'. Wish he would make Hardcore anthems like those again, they were so damn dope.

A glorious mix. Saturday, be gone! It is now time for some Hardcore to take over the day, and it will make us forget what day of the week it is!
