T.K.'s Jump & Tek Classics (Part 23: 31 Years The Oh! DJ Contest) (2024)

I am back! After nearly a month of being away from my awesome website, I decided that today was going to be the day that I return. I've been away, to Greece, and it was heavenly. Drinking cocktails every single day, and enjoying the Sun. I feel refreshed and excited to return, but I still needed a few more days before returning to this hobby, and as today is probably the last day of nice temperatures, I decided to come back on what seems to be a very lovely day. One that might persuade you to start dancing again...

During my holiday in Greece I did not listen to the normal genres, the ones I always listen to. But I decided to let the Greeks decide it for me. It was amazing, and intoxicating. But something deep down inside was tickling me, I started to get this itch. And not just because I got sunburned, it was an itch that an ointment could not resolve. Only a good set of speakers and a wicked mix. And boy, did I find one? Of course I did.

It should come as no surprise, but I'm an old geezer. I am now 41, and I grew up during the best years of Dance music. And when Jumpstyle emerged out of nowhere, I was hooked. Decades later, I am still in love with this bouncy style. It makes me happy, makes me move more ferociously, and it gets me going. Yes, there's an element involved that makes it be borderline cheesy, but that's the appeal too, right?

T.K., who has made an appearance before on this site, made a promo mix. Well more like a DJ contest mix for the 31 Years of Oh! event, which takes place in October of this year. And I only had to listen to it once to be fully emerged, and intoxicated by the Oh! sound. If you don't know what the Oh! sound is or what it represents, you should check out the Oh! website. It is probably stated somewhere on there what it represents.

For now, let's go back in time, to the glorious Jumpstyle years....

This takes me back to the wonderful years of Jumpstyle. And it's exactly what I needed to hear today. I needed something to give me enough energy to start doing chores around the house. As said, it's probably the last sunny day of the year, so make the most of it.

Headset on, Soundcloud on, this mix on, and volume on max. That's how I enjoyed this mix. And it was on loud: the neighbours could hear it. And I could not care one bit. This is my youth in a nutshell, this is who I am, and who I was back in the day. My God, did I spent a fortune on Jumpstyle CDs? Oh yeah, that's exactly what I did. And I'm happy to have lived through those years, and I would not have missed it for the world.

Yeah, the whole Jumping dance movement was a bit silly. But we were young, we didn't know we looked foolish.

All of these records bring back memories. Including the last track, which I find so overrated. Could have ended the mix with 'Fanatic!', that would have been much better. But hey ho, it is what it is.

I remember those years, driving around in your pimped up car, with a massive sound system in your car, making sure that every window was trembling. The bass? That would have been on max, same as the volume. You cannot listen to this normally.

T.K.'s mix is great. I really enjoyed it, and it's good to hear these classics again. A golden era gone, but never truly forgotten. Keep it alive. And keep on jumping (but not that silly dance move please).

Best record? No contest, that has to be 'Holiday' by Largemellow. Big, big anthem back in the day!
