The end of the year is near. And we will be seeing a lot of End Of Year mixes, and the first one I encountered, has been made by Sound Abuse. And as per previous Sound Abuse mixes, they are slightly harder and rougher. And once you had a look at the tracklist, you know the tracks are hard as fuck. They've done a tremendous job, by cramming in 51 records in a 57 minute long mix. So you get what you want to hear. But the main question is: is this the only mix that matters, the only yearmix? You tell me.
I do love yearmixes. They always highlight the great achievements of the year. Or the lowest, depending on how you perceive music that year, or the quality of the music. And it also depends on the quality of the mix. But overall the mixes are great, and they always select the finest songs of the year. This one is no exception. And as I'm not following the current scene as much as I should have done, it's nice to hear what actually has been released throughout the year.
I've lost a bit of love for the current Hardcore sound. It's not what I like. I am a bit more focussed on the early/oldskool sound. It is nice to see it is still alive and kicking, but it ain't for me. But there's still enough to explore, and there might be some hidden gems in this mix which I do like. Who knows? The only way to find out, is to listen to this mix and see if anything interests me. In the end, it is still Hardcore, and it's still better than anything played on the radio nowadays.

Oh boy, this was an interesting tracklist to type. Why, you might ask? Well, because I'm not familiar with most names in this list, or their tracks. I should feel ashamed, and I do. But these names, they don't ring any bells, besides the ones who have been around for at least a decade or two.
Thankfully this mix isn't filled with Frenchcore or piep-kicks, as they would drive me mad. Thankfully Sound Abuse has picked records from styles I do appreciate: Industrial, Doomcore, Techno, and even Slowcore. Uptempo is still a style I need to appreciate more. I should invest more time in the current Hardcore scene, maybe that could be my 2025 resolution.
It is a very hard mix with some serious hitters. If you are into Hardcore, there's a lot in here you might like. Even I liked the 'slower' stuff, the ones that represent the early sound the most. Towards the end of the mix it goes harder and tougher and faster, but give me the beginning any day. Especially when 'We Always Do This' hits. And 'Treachery'. Those are my favourite records.
How did you perceive 2024? Was it a good year for Hardcore? Are you digging the current sound? Which record is your favourite in this mix?
It's a solid mix, and one you should definitely check out. Maybe to be reintroduced to Hardcore, like myself, or just to reminisce on those records released in this glorious year.
