The Remix Mix (2021)

It is Easter Monday! Hope you are all having a splendid day, and enjoying the peace and quietness. And eat as many chocolate eggs as you can. When you are stuffing your face with all these lovely items, why not have something playing in the background, to keep you company? A brand new mix by the History Of Happy Hardcore Soundcloud channel might cheer you right up? You might have guessed this to be a Happy Hardcore mix, but you are oh so wrong. This is certainly not one of those mixes. This is the Remix mix. And it contains every kind of style. But the track has got to be a remix, those are the criteria which have to be met.

It's a good concept, only remixed versions in a mix. And for this, they have gone all the way. You name the style, and it's in here. And some are seriously impressive anthems you might have heard before, or not. I would say that most of these are known by yours truly, but not these remixed versions. 75% known, 25% unknown. Or thereabouts. This is not a maths class, who gives a shiny shite about statistics and numbers?

So, this isn't a Happy Hardcore mix, but what is it? The concept should be clear to you, but which styles do they touch upon? House, Techno, Trance, Hard Trance, Hard House, Electro, Progressive, etc. All Dance tune. And they have gone all in. The tracklist does look impressive, and it makes me wonder how he found these anthems? And especially these versions? Some are truly obscure anthems, I've not even hear them before.

Let's dive straight into the tracklist, and show you the wonders of today's mix:

  1. Felix Da Housecat vs Sasha - Watching Cars Go By (Sasha Remix)

  2. Trisco - Musak (Wonderland Avenue Remix)

  3. iiO - Rapture (John Creamer & Stephane K Remix)

  4. Tiesto - Traffic (Tristan Garner Remix)

  5. Funkagenda - What The Fuck

  6. Benny Benassi - Satisfaction (Afrojack reMIX)

  7. Tomas Andersson - Washing Up (Tiga Remix)

  8. Azzido Da Bass - Dooms Night (Timo Maas Remix)

  9. Southside Spinners - Luvstruck (Timo Maas Remix)

  10. Darude - Sandstorm (JS16 Remix)

  11. Lock 'N' Load - Blow Ya Mind (Club Caviar Remix)

  12. Members Of Mayday - 10 In 01 (Paul van Dyk Club Mix)

  13. Da Hool - Meet Her At The Love Parade (Airwave Remix)

  14. Utah Saints - Lost Vagueness (Oliver Lieb's Main Mix)

  15. Energy 52 - Cafe Del Mar (Cafe Del Marco V Remix)

  16. Cosmic Gate - Fire Wire (LCF Remix)

  17. Snap! - Rhythm Is A Dancer (CJ Stone Remix)

  18. Joy Kitikonti - Joyenergizer (Physical Mix)

  19. Phatt B - And Da Drum Machine (BK Remix)

  20. Jonah - Sssst....Listen (Pants & Corset Remix)

You do know most of these, right? Tell me that you know most of these? Or maybe just the original versions of these?

They have done a wicked job with this tracklist. I love this concept, and they should do it more often. More remix mixes. The more, the better. Yes, it's nice to hear the original versions, but sometimes a remix could be better, or improve the record. Or even be worst. You can see that in this mix too (sadly).

Let me get one thing straight: I'm not a hater of remixes, but they should be done correctly. If not carried out correctly, it should not even be seen or heard by anyone. Just simply delete the file, remove it forever. Like Afrojack's version of 'Satisfaction'. What a horrible record. The original was already an annoying yet catchy tune, but this version is just meh. And the first record used in this mix, what's that all about? Quirky galore!

But then you get to the big anthems. The big beasts. Like 'Dooms Night', '10 In 01', 'Joyenergizer', 'Meet Her At The Love Parade', 'Rapture'.... seriously impressive tunes, and some of these are better than the originals. Don't hate me for saying that. It's just the truth.

But, let's agree, two records in this mix are way above all the others. One of them is 'Cafe Del Mar', remixed by Marco V, an all-time classic, and 'Washing Up', remixed by Tiga. Don't hear that beast very often.

A very interesting mix. Cool concept. More of this please. Now continue stuffing your face, you earned it!
