The year is 2005. 20 years ago. DJ Tiësto performed at a magical place we call Disneyland Paris. Only a handful of years before did I witness him play at Innercity, but in 2005 he was probably the biggest DJ in the whole world. I quickly had to Google search for the answer to a question I had, but he was the best DJ in the world in 2004, but lost the title in 2005 in the DJ Mag Top 100. Still a great DJ though, and it was an obvious choice to ask him to 'reopen' Space Mountain' in Disneyland Paris. Not sure why though, but it was certainly a cool concept.
He was on a roll. Those first few years of the Millennium were great for Tiësto. And to play at a Walt Disney park, that's just quirky in itself. But oh so cool. And having a bit of insight regarding Space Mountain (which is called Hyperspace Mountain today), it is cool to have a link to this amazing ride. My dad, who is now a supervisor for a rollercoaster manufacturer, build this fantastic rollercoaster, and once it was opened back in the 90s, he took us to Disneyland (which might have been called Eurodisney).
Only last year did I visit the park again after 30 years, but this time with my wife. And it was cool. Absolutely magical place to be. But imagine for a split second, partying at Disneyland? Any of the Disney parks? Isn't that amazing? That is just an unimaginable thing, right? There were people making fun of the concept back in the day (I've read a few forums) and they were mocking people who went. They were expecting Mickey, Minnie and their friends to be dancing there as well. Now that's not the case, for sure.
Whatever your views are on Disney or on Tiësto, it's still cool. And his set has been widely available on the world wide web, but only recently did I discover it. Maybe due to the fact that me and the wife went, and finding this set just had to be. Maybe in the near future we will visit the park again, and on our way there, Tiësto might keep us company throughout our journey through France?

Wow. This is an amazing tracklist. You might not have liked Tiësto back in the day nor the concept of him playing at Disneyland, but you have to admit that the tracks selected sound solid, right? The intro makes it worthwhile, but once the intro is done, the magic happens. It is Disney after all!
I'm guessing the recording of this was from some radio station, because it sometimes dips in and out, so it's not smooth per se, but you can catch the atmosphere beautifully if you close your eyes. You can hear everyone scream as loud as possible. Probably still wearing their Mickey or Minnie ears, but no one cared.
This set is certainly magical, and I've thoroughly enjoyed it. And I discovered a track, one I've not heard before, but one that will certainly go in my favourite list. Whiteroom feat Amy Cooper - Someday. When the MC asks 'what's the name of the DJ' and everyone screams Tiësto's name... goose bumps! That track is pure gold. This is the kind of Trance I miss a lot. Out of all the songs in this set, that song has got the most impact. Yes, Tiësto's own stuff was great, but how come I've never heard this one before?
I might not like the music he makes nowadays, but at least we've got a lot of music to fall back onto, in case we crave a bit of the old Tiësto. Not the old old, because he was into Gabber, but the Trance side of him. The one that made him a superstar DJ. And gave him the opportunity to play in the same land Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy, Donald, Daisy, and all the others live in. It is certainly a Magikal place.
