Sometimes you go onto Soundcloud or Mixcloud, and your gut is telling you that you will find a really epic mix. Yesterday was such a day. I found a mix, focussed on the event called Ibiza Goes Hard, and this promo mix was played during the 304th edition of the Twisted's Darkside Podcast. And you have seen the image above, you know who made this mix: Painbringer. The one who is keeping the oldschool Hardcore alive. And you have got to give him credit for it. Every die-hard raver loves the early stuff. Unless you are too young and do not have a clue that there's a music style alive since the early 90s. But don't worry: Painbringer is here to educate yourselves. In this mix he selected his favourite Early Hardcore tracks and a few forgotten classics. Those gems that everyone loved at the time, but got buried underneath the mainstream Hardcore tunes. And let's not forget: Painbringer's own music back catalogue. I lived, breathed, and basically was Hardcore. No-one could convince me that it was shite, for me it was everything. It was life. And Painbringer's mix contains those records that make me smile for hours. Thanks mate! For once it's difficult to distinguish which record is an oldschool classic and which one is new. I reckon that Painbringer records are new, and the rest are old? It's difficult, because the sound is so alike! I know that 'The Point', 'Get Set', etc are oldschool classics, but the rest sound so similar. Not updated or different. That's what I like about artists such as Painbringer, Casketkrusher, etc. They keep the sound alive, and they do it well! Best record? 'Stop The Rhythm' by Trickster. Banging record. Painbringer, you are a superstar. Your mix is dope, and it has given me goosebumps from time to time. The only record I didn't like is the Pendulum remix of the Prodigy's classic record 'Voodoo People'. I find it the least creative remix of all time, quite frankly boring as hell. But I might be the only one. A decent mix. Nothing wrong. This is the early Hardcore sound I miss. Give me more mixes like this. I much more prefer this kind of music over anything else! Nico. Nico Suffis. He keeps on tagging me on Facebook. And you know what? I do not mind that, not at all. Sometimes his mixes are just too long, but those that I can listen to whilst driving home, or at work, those are the ones I'm absorbing most of the time. So his latest mix. This was one I had to listen to, just because of the simple fact that M.I.K.E. / PUSH is such a recognisable name in the Trance industry. A name linked to many great anthems, and probably the greatest Trance anthem of all time. But more about that in a minute. Nico is addicted to Trance, and would you disagree with him? It's probably the best style in the whole wide world. Not one ounce of aggressive in it. It's all about peace, love, unity, and respect. And Trance music is the right style to embrace all these terms. But who would you pick if you had to make a tribute mix? Which artist does resemble Trance music in its purest form? Who is so Trance-like, he could single-handedly change the future? Yes, PUSH / M.I.K.E. It's an obvious choice of Nico. He's made other mixes too, don't get me wrong. He does release mixes nearly every week onto his Soundcloud, so if you think that this mix isn't enough for you, just check it out. But this mix stands out from all the rest. This is Trance. This is pure. This is fecking epic! Some people might say that it's the Belgian sound that makes his music great, but to me he makes borderless music. Fuck me sideways, up and down, this is the GREATEST piece of Trance music ever made. And Nico teases us at the beginning of the mix: I didn't see the tracklist at first, and hear the majestic piano bits, and was slightly disappointed that I heard a remix, not the one I was hoping for. But fear not, around 1:47:00 the track comes in, and destroys you completely. I melted like butter when I heard this tune. A genuine tear jerker. The power behind this mix is beyond reckoning. This is a powerful mix. A powerful 2 1/2 hours of M.I.K.E. a.k.a. PUSH. What a legend, what a superstar. This mix contains sooo many wicked anthems: it doesn't matter which event you hear these at, the crowds will unity and become one. We all raise our hands in the air and let us be enchanted by the spiritual sounds from this pioneer, this legend, this all-time hero! I can only give Nico credit for tagging me in this mix on Facebook. This is his best so far. There used to be a time when Soundcloud was giving me Freeform mixes on a daily routine, but sadly that has changed. For some reason Freeform has gone a bit more underground, and it might be something you wouldn't expect it to be, but is that something to dislike? Not really. Freeform has always been this subculture and has managed to stay afloat since its creation. And if I'm honest, I do like it the way it is. Not being ruined by other styles, or run by mediocre idiots trying to get money out of it. The scene remains this powerful, because we all have one thing in common: our love for the music. And that's important! So whenever a Freeform mix is uploaded, I jump right onto it. As I said before, it sadly doesn't happen on a daily basis anymore, but still, if you look close enough, you do find interesting mixes, like the one I've got for you right now! Name me another style that can send you into such a relaxing mood (obviously a style linked to UK Hardcore). If you name 'House' music, you are right, but that's not the point... Anyway, DJ Aeon's mix. It contains records released on the biggest Freeform labels such as Energy Field, FINRG, Stamina Records, Tesla Tracks, and of course Aeon's own label, FutureProof Sounds. So you know instantly that these records are 'boss' records. These labels do not release any shite records, only quality. And that said, which one of the 13 records is my favourite? Come on, there's only one simple answer to that question: 'Chemist'. This fucked up Freeform record just blows your mind. It's got Transcend (and that other dude Cyrax), and some distorted vocals that just scare me. Haunting me in my sleep. I seriously woke up with those vocals in my head, I could even hear the distorted section. 2018 was a great year for Freeform, and 2019 will be yet another amazing year. Fan mixes. You see them more and more on social media and music platforms, and the other day I spotted yet another one. This time it was a fan mix for Smith & Brown, the upcoming Tech Trance duo who I've reviewed a few times. I did spot them a few months ago, and from that moment I got hooked. Their sound is just what I need to hear, and it turns out that I'm not the only one who is obsessed with Smith & Brown. A fan called Hamilton (no, not the Drum & Bass DJ/producer) made this fan mix. It obviously contains original Smith & Brown records, and also a few remixes they made. And the general gist of this mix is to showcase to the world that S & B are doing the right thing. They are keeping Tech Trance interesting and vibrant. Their take on it is fresh. 'Last Landing', the track that got me excited, isn't in this mix. Disappointed? Nope. There are plenty of awesome records that Smith & Brown have made, to intoxicate us all. So let me show you the tracklist, and you will be a happy bunny. 01. Well, you might be very picky and not like the fact that it's not downloadable, but if that's the reason, you are a tight arse. If you are like me, and you don't see anything wrong with this mix, you are a legend. I've got nothing negative to comment. This is a blissfull mix, containing just the right amount of songs to keep us going. It's such a bliss. I feel mellow and so extremely happy after hearing this for the 34th time, as I normally do after hearing a mix by S&B. Check this fan mix out. A few days ago the world was told that we lost a pioneer, a genuine rave master, Keith Flint. Part of the Prodigy, we do not need to introduce him or his band. I've covered that in previous reviews. And if you don't know the Prodigy, you are kind of a wally. How can you not know this majestic band? Anyway, he sadly is not among us anymore. And before anyone wants to turn into the Sun, we at TCD do not support gossips. We are not discussing the reason why or how he sadly left us, we are talking about this man in all honour and pride. And that's how we should embrace those who have left us. To honour the great Keith many are trying to get Firestarter on number 1, organising parties to commemorate him and the tragic illness he suffered from, and some do tribute mixes. The one that grabbed my attention was DJ Brisk's mix. Brisk presents his #theBriskSelection every so often, mainly via Facebook. I never have the time to catch his show live (only did that once), and that's because of the time (the lack of it for me). But thankfully he uploads his music everywhere, and this mix had to be on Soundcloud, the biggest platform of them all. And the mix (recorded on the 8th of March 2019) is all focussed on the Prodigy, and of course the craziest member of them all: Keith Flint. His death has left a mark on us all, especially on those friends and family of Keith. The raving culture was shocked too, but we are supportive, and show the world why he and the Prodigy are an all-time band. You might like the newer stuff, or the older stuff. Personally I was more into the early stuff, kind of lost interest after 'The Fat Of The Land', but this feeling emerged after I heard Brisk's mix: I kind of understand the Prodigy's message, even those records I didn't like before: it's all about raving. And fucking you up. That's what their music does. It leaves you breathless. It also showed me that the Prodigy's back catalogue is seriously impressive. What Brisk did was select the biggest dancefloor smashers by the Prodigy, and carefully mixed them together. And that's a task and a half! Knowing the Prodigy's catalogue they weren't a band who made repetative and similar sounding tracks, each track was different. So is Brisk capable enough to mix it all together, in a beautiful way? It's not an easy job to mix all these records togehter, all with different BPMs. Well, they are linked to each other, but still they differ mostly from each other, and Brisk makes it sound so wicked. And effortless. But I reckon it was the complete opposite. Brisk played a mixed variety of records, from the older stuff to music from their latest album. I'm really digging their stuff, no matter when it was made. But the early stuff is just so cool, so awesome. It wasn't an easy task to pick a favourite, and I'm not going to be able to mention my favourite: there are too many. And especially the way Brisk has mixed it all together, it just comes together so beautifully. The only records I don't like are the remixes that I do not recognise, like the Hardcore remix of 'Everybody In The Place', the Spor remix of 'Nasty', Deekline's version of 'Outta Space', etc. I'm a fan of originals, especially when they are made by the Prodigy. It wasn't an easy task for Brisk, but it has paid off. This is really the best tribute mix I've found so far, and with it we can celebrate the awesome things the Prodigy (and of course Keith) have given us. The most influencial rave group of all time. DJ Sc@r, where has she been? It's been a while since I last heard anything from this Australian super DJ/producer. I remember the Scarred Digital being released, but after she flew under my radar for no reason lol. Stupid social media. But she is BACK! With a brand new mix, with probably the least UK Hardcore-ish picture lol. This Indian thing on her head (I forgot what it's called), sunglasses, and the hashtag #SDWARRIOR . What's going on with Sc@r? It's an unusual way of presenting yourself to the world, but it does work for me. I remember when I used to listen to hear show on Kraftyradio (haven't listened to online radio for years!), and she always impressed me with her unique style. And she still remains like that to this day. She's unique, refreshing, and leader of her own label, Scarred Digital. To showcase what she and her label are capable of, she made this short (maybe too short) promo mix, with tracks from the label from the last 6 years. I had to quickly check her Soundcloud to see the classic mixes I used to listen to once a day, and they are bloody years old! I can't believe it, time has flown by so rapidly. I was a fan boy, and still am a fan of her and the amazing label. She just had to add a few absolute BEASTS in this mix! God, 'Rushin', 'London City' (sadly never mentioned Enfield), 'Don't Say Goodbye', 'Hardcore Power'... she is just so damn gifted. She still remains her gifts, and she keeps the 'old' sound alive and kicking. And that's what I like! But she had to end the mix with a stonker of a track! Freeform baby! 'Summer Groove'. What a wicked track to end your mix with, but is it my favourite? Nope, it isn't. The best one is 'Srav3r' with 'No Fear. Never heard of this artist before, but I'm digging this melodic Hardcore tune. Sc@r, make sure you keep those mixes coming. I need more. And I think many do agree. Eufeion is back with a brand spanking new mix! The fifth instalment of his 'In 2 The Mix' has landed on Soundcloud a month ago, and I'm really delighted to announce this mix to you all! I know you all like a bit of Happy Hardcore, and you never guess what the main theme of this mix is? Correct, Happy Hardcore. The 90s style that we all miss and love. Before we continue talking about this mix, I have to say that I tried my best to find the previous mixes on Eufeion's Soundcloud page, but couldn't find them? I know he did a label showcase mix, and a general UK Hardcore mix, but the others I'm not sure off. I hope he does leave them somewhere, because I love this 'In 2 The Mix' concept. But seeing as I do know and love Happy Hardcore, the one thing I noticed immediately was the fact that these are all UK Happy Hardcore records. Does that make this mix a bad one? Absolutely not. More refreshing. The majority of HH mixes are always Dutch focussed, but to hear a nice UK version is more my cup of tea. When I grew up in the Netherlands we did hear a few UK Happy Hardcore tunes, but the majority was focussed on the continent's perspective of Happy Hardcore. So I did miss out on a lot. Thankfully I can find mixes like this one on Soundcloud and get educated. The mix starts with a wicked record by Midas, and this flow continues throughout the mix. This cheerful, cheeky, happy, and uplifting vibe is linked to most of the tunes. That's why I like it so much: it's innocent. It's pure. It's happy. It's everything we need to have in music. One month ago Hatred uploaded a mix, and when I first listened to it, it only had a few hundred plays. Now a month later it's at 30.1k+ and rising. It seems that Uptempo is the future, and in retrospect, this mix is worth every play it receives. But the question today is (and it only applies to me): who is Hatred? I've seen their name before, but never delve into their past, present, and future. So give me a second to Google the shit out of them and see if I can find a proper answer. Well, I found a bit on Partyflock, and on this it states they are from Germany, and play rough music. And that is all. Nothing more. Well, I'm not that fussed who's behind the masks, so let's focus on who they represent: Hatred. I'm slowly understanding the Uptempo community. It's not my all time favourite style, but I still enjoy it a lot. The masked heroes made this wicked mix, and it contains a lot of weird shit records. But the weirdest has got to be Alice DJ's 'Better Off Alone'. Who on Earth would have expected this record to be here? Well, it's obviously a remix, but still?! The mix is rough and raw from the beginning to the end. And even though you get a few moments to breath in and out, you will feel knackered towards the end. Hatred are really on a roll, and give us everything we need to get fucked. My brain felt like it was in constant agony, but that's what I needed. Thank God I've got paracetamol next to me, I need to shift this headache. Thanks Hatred, Nah, in all fairness, Hatred's mix might sound so damn hard for the untrained ear, but for those who love their music a little bit faster, you will love this mix. Today is a sad day for everyone who loves Rave music. Everyone who knows the Prodigy has probably read the breaking news stories all over social media. Today we lost Keith Flint, one of The Prodigy's members. But before we continue, we are not judging anyone, or start gossiping about the reason why or how. We are here today to tribute his input into one of the world's greatest Rave acts. And that is an understatement that everyone would underline. I cannot remember which year it was when I first fell in love with the band, but it was after 'No Good' came out. As we speak it's one of the least favourite Prodigy records of all time, due to the radio overkill it received. But that said, it has paved the way for Rave to invade the Top 40 and cement its place into eternity. Not saying there weren't others, but the Prodigy took the Rave culture globally, and when they released 'Music For The Jilted Generation' back in 1994, they took the world by storm. A force we had not seen before. The music was different. It was groundbreaking stuff. Unique, and powerful. Any of the Prodigy records could be played at a rave, and the club would explode. Even in 2019 you can play records from this majestic album, and crowds will loose themselves. And all that fame and stardom because of a few boys just wanting to have fun. They broke the rules. Fuck that, they re-written the bloody handbook! I've never been to one of their livesets, but I've heard many people talk about this. It would have been an experience of a lifetime. Their energetic behaviour on stage would appeal to everyone. But back in 1994 they were still pushing boundaries, and this album (alongside 'Experience') has to be one of the greatest Rave albums of all time. And it has been listed as an album you need to listen to before you die. Now that's an achievement on its own, but to still remain powerful, 25 years later, is just not something we just simply brush away. To me the first 2 Prodigy albums and Goldie's Timeless remain the finest albums I've ever heard. And there's a good reason for it: the music is limitless and eternal. You cannot say that these are dated songs, or even say that they sound a specific way. Because they don't. They sound like they were made to last a lifetime, or even eternity. And they will. The power behind this album is not the quantity, but the quality. You get full length records, and boy, are they solid as a rock! I have played this album over and over again over the years, and still it makes me feel like a boy. This album have stood the test of time, and it's all because of the efforts of the whole group back in 1993/1994. I'm proud to consider myself an early Prodigy fan. Not a fan of their latest stuff, but that said, it all depends on the person. I do prefer the old Prodigy, the rave stuff. But even with 'newer' albums they kept on experimenting with music. Which led to them being one of the biggest groups in the world. Best song? Pff. All of them. Yes, 'No Good' isn't my favourite due to overkill, but it still packs a punch. But the one that gets me every time is 'Full Throttle'. Yes, this is categorised as an album, even though it's put on Soundcloud. You should get this album right now! Pure rave nostalgia on a disc. Yesterday I was hugely disappointed, today I'm a happy bloke. Not only did I have a good day at work, I've been listening to a lot of wicked music on Soundcloud. I think it was a couple of months ago when I first discovered DJ Threat on Soundcloud. If I'm correct (and correct me if I'm wrong) he did a Scott Brown mix, or an Evolution Records mix. Which got a good review (never given a Scott Brown mix a bad review). Now he's back with a brand spanking new mix, focussed on Lethal Theory. The ground breaking label that shook people's heads during the early 00s and 10s. If I'm honest, I have missed Lethal Theory a lot. I know Joey Riot has been busy with his Destructive Tendencies, but it's a shame, isn't it? Lethal Theory was the place to be for the best UK Hardcore and Powerstomp music. They were the originators of this 'new' style. And now they have disappeared. Maybe disappeared from my timeline, but I don't see much LT at all. It's a shame. I'm not a 100% sure that I've got the right record, but the record played around 57 minutes, isn't that 'The Rising'? If it is (or isn't), it's my favourite record of this mix. I've been lied to. And I really dislike that. And maybe you experienced the same? You might have encountered the same issue on YouTube, when you think you are going to listen to a specific album, and it's not what you expected. The next thing you are going to see is one of those disappointments. And it really grinds my gear when it happens. Thunderdome is an institution, it's a way of life. We don't need to explain to the raving culture what it is, and what it means. We have all been hoping that the good ol' days would come back, and we could hear the music from the 90s and early 00s again. So when I spotted this 'new' and 'rare' album on YouTube I got happy. Only uploaded a couple of days ago, I thought that it might have been the real deal. But fuck me, that wasn't the case. It looks persuasive enough. The cover looks really genuinely Thunderdome-ish. It's been lacking this kind of covers for many years. They are playing it safe over the last couple of years. So to see this new cover was really intriguing. But I looked closely. A concept design. Yes, some records do resemble the Thunderdome sound, but the majority are Italian Hardcore records, or just waste of time. You know when you've got a MoH album or a Thunderdome album in your possession: it's that unique sound. And this seems to be only click bait. A fake. I'm really gutted. Really disappointed. I'm waiting for that oldskool but new album from Thunderdome, but it hasn't arrived yet. And maybe this would have been the one. But it wasn't. This has pissed me off. The tracks are good, don't hear me say anything about that, but the way this is presented is just pure lying to the masses. Create your own concept, don't re-invent one. Be unique, and people will come if it's good. But this is just pure rip off. Jumping the band wagon of Thunderdome's success. I'm really disliking this 'album'. Yes it's rare, because it's fake. Don't be duped. If you just want to hear Hardcore music, go ahead: there are good records on here, but if you were looking (like myself) for some Thunderdome, you will be deeply disappointed. When Headhunterz announced his return to the Hardstyle scene, many embraced his return. Many witnessed him during his first period of success, and we kind of missed his sound. We thought we lost him to the EDM world, like Tiesto. But thankfully that wasn't the case, as Headhunterz returned. And what a way to return! Last week I was at GPF's event, which was all rawstyle/puzzycore/uptempo, but now I wanted melodies coming through the speakers. I wanted lovely melodies (and no 3567313 BPMs flying through). And who else to go to? Headhunterz is the main man. Elliot made this mix using records from Headhunterz's album, and the album is dope as fuck. Lit as fuck, as people in the UK would say it. He always gives each and every record a special touch. Deeper meaning. Maybe it's easy for Heady, but to me it sounds like he's made such an effort to make music sound even better! Even putting tiny bits and bobs that no-one would normally give a shit about, he just does it. And what he also does is making music so extremely catchy. You won't find a record in this mix not catchy. All can be whistled to. Especially the one I really appreciate, and maybe that's just because it was targeted to me, a Dutchman. The best one in this mix has got to be 'Our Church'. But all in all they are all lit! I can't find any flaws on the production side of Headhunterz. I am seriously impressed with whatever he does. Just think of what our life would have been without him there. EDM isn't the scene to be in, mate. Stick to Hardstyle, you are bloody good at it. A GOD to the ravers. Elliot's mix contains only one tiny mixing error, but nothing to be alarmed about. I am broken. Seriously broken. But there's a good reason for me being like this, in this state. I went to the Netherlands last week for one specific party, and seeing as I haven't raved in a while, it was going to break me anyway. But seeing as you are regular visitors of my website (and Facebook) you kind of guessed which event I went to. And what this is, this is a review of the event and the day before and after. I am a supporter of GPF for a while now, since the first time I noticed their mixes online. I did feel a connection, so unique and strong, it grabbed me and never let me go. They noticed my work (which is an achievement on its own), and we started chatting outside of social media. They followed me, and of course I followed them. They noticed that I had a shit year (2018 wasn't the best: hospitalized and massive surgery), and were kind enough to provide myself (and the missus) with backstage tickets for their upcoming event in Gemert, Netherlands. I've never seen an act do that for a simple reviewer. Maybe I'm targeting the wrong audience? Anyway, they made my Christmas special. The tickets arrived (including a free album, dildo, stickers, etc), and I talked to the wife. She's ABSOLUTELY NOT into this music. I took her to a rave several times, and never did I get the chance to persuade her. Trance and House, that's the maximum I can get out of her. But this, Puzzycore, that's not her cup of tea. So I decided to go on my own (it was our gran's birthday on the 16th anyway), and had to tell the wife I was going to leave her for a few days. That wasn't a pleasant conversation. The rest was going to be history, but I wasn't sure I could attend the event. I was still recovering from surgery, and even today I still feel the agonising pain. But it's going the right direction. So when I felt right, I booked the ferry and the hotel. Obviously I had to take a few days of work, and I had to decide what to do. Seeing as I've got family in the Netherlands, I asked my mum and dad if I could crash at their place on Thursday, Friday, and Sunday night. They were fine with it. I needed a hotel. But the last time I went to the Time Out in Gemert, that was 11 years ago, and I had friends who lived nearby. They moved away, so I had to get a hotel. Found one on Booking.com's website, so that was handy. Around £55, which is acceptable. Still meant that I had to get a cab, or put my training shoes on (about 30 minutes walking). But that got booked, and the ferry was next. Not to boast, but I'm a die hard idiot: I came up with the plan to do an 8 hour shift, and drive straight after to Dover. That's how much of a GPF fan I am. Thursday happened, and I left work. From this moment to the second I got home it isn't really interesting. The only thing interesting was the look on the customs person when I rolled the window down and he heard GPF. But besides that it was dull. Especially the long 200 km straight road. Pfew, glad to have cruise control in the car, would have been deadly for my legs. Whilst at my parents I visited a few colleagues and family members, but you are not interested in that, are you? OK, let's skip forward to Saturday. My dad went fishing, and I went to the hotel. It wasn't far away from where my parents lived, so when I got there, it was a nice area, and I felt relaxed. I felt a migraine coming up, so a few paracetamols in my gob, and I thought I could sleep for a few hours. The hotel was separated from the actual restaurant bit. When the lovely lady took my details and payment, she said ''I'll take you to the hotel''. I found that odd. But it was at the oppossite of the street. The location was beautiful, but no airconditioning! It felt like I was in an oven! But who cared? I was in Gemert, and the party was only hours away! The long awaited party was about to happen. I needed a kip. My body said no. So that was a bummer. So after no sleep I decided to go outside after hearing people scream 'GREAZY PUZZY FUCKERZ'. I thought that I wasn't the only one. And I was right! I met others, some from the UK, some from Finland and Sweden. All the way from there to come and rave. That's dedication. They pointed out that I was the only one not dressed to the occassion. Well, don't have any pink clothes, but had something sorted. We all went back to the hotel rooms. Getting ready. Phoned a cab company, and the cab arrived an hour later. The bloody thing was hilarious: the cab driver was nice (could have used deodorant), but he came in a minibus. And when he dropped me off at the Time Out, he did it next to the entrance. Funny thing? I was the only one in the bus. So it looked like I was important. Gave him a tip, and joined everyone else in the queue. People were getting hyped up. It did feel weird, me standing there on my own. But that's not a difficult thing to accomplish: I went to my first ever rave on my own (Mysteryland 1998 Outdoor), and stood amongst 25.000 ravers whilst being 14 years old. So being 35 at a club in Gemert would not have been an issue, right? The lovely people at the entrance scanned me, touched me, and when they wanted to scan my ticket, they said that it was a 'backstage ticket'. Well, I didn't know how it works, I'm not famous lol. They pointed me towards the backstage area, and I had to walk all the way there. Kind of annoyed, but it was a short trip. Met some people there whilst waiting for security to do their work, and became known as the 'London friend'. This was my first time ever somewhere backstage. Wasn't really what I was expecting. No M&Ms colour coordinated, no lovely red carpet on the floor. Basically a location where the artists could chill once they did their set, nothing more. But I wasn't going there to relax, I was there to party! So I took my white pale arse to the dancefloor, and was ready to be amazed! And that happened. But first, I needed a drink. I walked to the bar, and a lovely young lady took my order (vodka Red Bull). Turns out you needed tokens. Fuck. Where can I get them from? Walked to the bit where the lady sold tokens, walked back to the bar, and started to drink. Remember I had surgery? Well, it was kidney surgery, so getting drunk wasn't probably the best thing to achieve. But I did it anyway. You know why? I decided that this was going to be my last event. My health comes first. I've been going to raves for many years, and I couldn't picture myself raving at 55. So stop when you still can. And why not go out in style? GPF's event was the right one. So let's get drunk. Beer was only one token, and had my pockets full with tokens, so I was going to get drunk. The night started with DJ Distinction. Never heard of the man, but he set the tone for the evening. Got my Nikes on, so I was going to rave my ass off. Nearly forgot to mention that I spotted Rooler backstage! I am shy as hell, and could have asked him for a picture, but my double chin would not have looked good in a picture. And I always think that they are being asked the same question over and over again during the evening. Should have taken a picture. But hey, I'm late. Next act were Caine and Rooler. Were they GPF? They came on stage with the masks on, so is it true? Or is it Sefa and Rooler? Or Malice? I'm so confussed. The set was as silly as you would expect! And Rooler decided to showcase his moves in front of the decks. Thera HC was next. He threw a wicked set, and was smiling all the way through. Love to see acts having fun, because that should be the reason why someone is a DJ. It was getting closer to 01:30, and GPF came on stage! Matty and Caine! The whole crowd gathered and got ready to be amazed! And even though we already know their back catalogue, they did threw in a few records we'd never heard of. My mind was blown. This was exactly what I anticipated. This was my kind of heaven. Oh, did I mention earlier I was getting drunk? At this stage I was extremely drunk. So god damn wasted. I needed to slow down, otherwise an ambulance was needed. But would that stop me raving? Nah. Even though I was doing the hakken thing and I felt my kidney bouncing inside of me, I still continued. Could have been the alcohol. Could have been my personality. Whatever it was, I couldn't give a toss about my health. This was my end game. After GPF it was time for the Maren-Kessel Tunnel Rave Live. Still don't know if this is a joke or not? Is it a spoof? I don't know what it is, but they threw an amazing set. Got everyone bouncing even harder than before. D-Fence entered the stage. I was really looking forward to his set. And he didn't disappoint. Don't know what he looks like behind the mask (didn't spot him backstage), but that's irrelevant. The set was banging. During this set I was feeling a bit meh. My body battery was going down quickly, and I had to call it a night. Yes, maybe I am a puzzy. But at least I went. That's the main gist of it. I went, and many didn't. Thankfully throughout the night I spoke to Matty and Martyna, and he gave me a nice pink shirt with GPF written on it. Still didn't ask for a picture (what's wrong with me). But what I did mention to him was that he (and whoever is GPF) should be proud. Achieving this is just beyond belief. It's not a joke anymore, it's an institution. The end was near, and I was getting knackered. Walked towards the exit via the backstage bit, and saw Caine standing there. Again, no picture. But fuck me, he does look scary in real life! I did see his images on Facebook, and I thought it was a Viking filter on Snapchat, but no, he does look like he's about to devour an elephant in one bit! And he was also talking to someone else (don't like to intrude people during conversations). And I was absolutely wasted. Fresh air! That's what I needed! A cab came, and I went back to the hotel. Quickly grabbed a coffee to get the beer taste out of my mouth, and tried to sleep. Woke up 4 hours later, decided to have a shower, and left the hotel. Walked to the restaurant across the street, and they gave me a massive plate, filled with Dutch breakfast things. That filled me up nicely. It was time to head back down South. The journey was alright, but I felt that there was still a bit of alcohol inside of me. My parents noticed my state, and I showed them images of the party, and videos. And they still smiled. Explaining GPF to the uninterested is like training a dog to cook a meal: you can try, but you will fail. My dad has got an open mind, and he found it funny that I went to this party just to hear this crap. On Monday the ferry took me back to the UK. Glad to be back in my home country (UK will always be my number 1). Picked up the missus on the way home, and whilst asleep, snored so damn loud, I kept her awake. I still feel sorry for this, she made several videos of me actually snoring so loud. So, what have I learned from this GPF event? That it was EPIC. And I did embrace it like I've never done before. But what it taught me was that you should take life as light as possible. Don't let the media take you down, but enjoy life. There's no point in making everything negative, when you can laugh about and live your own life. Enjoy it as much as you can. I really enjoyed myself this weekend. Met a few nice people, saw a lot of inflatable cocks and dolls, and had the time of my life. But I have to end on a high note, and I think I did achieve exactly that. Maybe I will go back raving, but my health comes first. I will still continue blogging, but the raving train has left the station without me. Thank you GPF and everyone I met, and also the Time Out for a wicked night out. Even though I was Billy No Mates, I felt alive and kicking. And that's what raving is about! I was a huge fan of Charly Lownoise and Mental Theo during the 90s! Like, massive! I was so into their music, I bought every single of every song they released. I consider myself a huge fan, but then you are woken up by a Soundcloud channel called 'History Of Happy Hardcore', and you realise all of a sudden that they are bigger fans of them. I've never made any mixes at all, celebrating their music. I just raved. And what HOHH have done, is made the ultimate mixtape. And when I say ultimate, I do mean ultimate. I've not come across such a wicked tracklist before. So many flashbacks to the 90s. This is when TCD was a wee lad, and danced in his underwear. Or tried to dance: it was more hakkuh, which most of the other friends didn't appreciate. But I couldn't care less. How was it possible to walk around, listening to your favourite music, without being disturbed? Anyway, someone uploaded this onto Youtube, so we can all experience the madness happening in Milton Keynes. You can hear the whistle crew in the background (they are lively), and accompanied by the tunes is MC Storm, getting the crowds alive and kicking. This set is really intoxicating, and if I need to elaborate why this set is wicked, you ain't Hardcore, son. Brisk's mixing is tight. Really tight. Smooth and sexy. Towards the end of the set it might look like Brisk is loosing the plot, but I don't think that's the case: I think the actual cassette was fucked. That would normally be the case. But during those 55 minutes Brisk kills it all! He comes and destroys the speakers. He showed the people at Slammin Vinyl vs Hardcore Heaven how to party. I've got nothing bad to mention. Still can't believe that this happened 21 years ago. The tunes sound so fresh, and not outdated. Or is that because I still live in the 90s? Whatever it might be, it's worth checking this mix out. I can say in all honesty that it must have been more than 5 years since I last heard a DJ Bubble mix! Crikey, it could have even been longer! You have seen their names before and have checked out their Sextapes already, but we are going to take a deeper look into who they are, what they represent, and what you can expect 2 weeks from now, at their first solo event: ‘This Is Not A GPF Event’. Be prepared for probably the weirdest interview you have ever seen. Q: Hey GPF, how are you doing? How’s life at the moment? "We can’t complain. We’ve just had some breakfast (chocolate cereal with water instead of milk) and it was delicious – a great way to start the day." Q: The kids all want to know who you are, so let’s take off the masks and reveal ourselves! Who’s behind the masks? Is it Sefa? Is it Rooler? Who are you? "Everyone knows that everybody is GPF. If you’re feeling the Greaziness then you can be a part of this sexy, chaotic period." Q: According to several websites the idea was created when 2 fucked up minds came together many moons ago. Now you are an established name, but give us an insight to the exact moment when GPF was born. "We actually recently answered this question in another interview but we’re happy to explain it again. Our great grandfathers created GPF back in the early 1900s when they were out hunting for goldfish. Legend has it that Captain Greazy and Lord Puzzy invented the hardcore sound back in those days and we do have proof to back it up but it’s stored safely in a secret place." Q: What’s the meaning behind GPF? It was created to remove boundaries from the harder styles, yet you create singlehandedly a new boundary! "We can give you a serious answer here, for once! We just wanted to bring some originality and most importantly FUN to the scene. Everything seems so serious at the moment and it’s nice to lighten up and see people smile, laugh and get involved with the whole act. There’s 1000s of serious acts out there so surely there’s room for us occasionally! If we can help people to smile and have fun, then we are happy too." Q: Can you describe GPF in 3 words? "Moist, Soggy, Damp." Q: It still doesn’t make any sense. This act has been so unique in the harder styles scene (not the masks, that has been done before (see Angerfist)), and the amount of sexual words in each records, and the amount of inflatable penises and blow up dolls at each event is just ridiculous. You know what they say about people who talk a lot about sex? They don’t get a lot. Is that true? "Yes it’s true. The only people we have touched sexually are each other and that was completely by accident. Mr Puzzy was in the bathroom one day, he forgot to lock the door I walked in, slipped, and brushed my penis against his naked shoulder. It was terrifying. " Q: The tracks are all so different, you can’t compare them to anything else. What kind of approach do you have before making a record? How much beer goes down your throat before you come up with those ludicrous records? "We’re always sober when we create these tracks. The only rule that we have is that we have to be sock-less and in a bath when we start the new record. It also helps if we drink some apple juice beforehand but that’s not essential." Q: It’s no mystery anymore who’s behind it. We have to spill the beans. But what many people might not know is that GPF is for everyone, and contains everyone. It was created to have a fun and sexy time. Have you ever snorted dried up anal lube up a 5 pound note? "Never take drugs, kids. Eat 5 portions of fruit and veg per day and make sure you get 6 hours of sleep per night. We did shampoo a goat once.. he was very grateful for the pampering. "Of course, we never truly expected it to grow this big, this quickly but we are very grateful for it! We see that a lot of people think we are just making a joke out of the scene or trying to ruin something but these people don’t understand that we’re trying to create our own brand, image, sound, genre ect.. Believe it not, behind the scenes is professional (in a GPF way) even if it looks like all we do is rub each other’s inflatable penises. We put in the hard work but of course the ultimate goal is to make sure everyone is having fun! That’s what parties are for." Q: The albums were a huge success. The promotion around it was just splendid (credit to the social media expert, keeping GPF fresh and uplifting, and yet unique). Your posts do reach thousands of fans, and comments all around. What’s the secret behind this success? "Originality, fun, randomness.. We found that if you don’t follow the ‘normal’ rules then it seems to work well. It also helps to never iron your clothes and only drink sparkling water." Q: Balls, I completely forgot! The masks! Where do they come from? Those masks are obviously linked to the act, but are not remotely sexy. Why these masks, and who came up with this idea? "The masks are called ‘Rubies Skinner Mask’ and can be found online. We just wanted something unique and gruesome but somehow it’s turned into a sex idol." Q: Two albums already. Any future plans for more sexy albums? Do they also come with dildos and stickers? "We are always planning something new. 2019 is going to be filled with music, sweat, dildos and stickers. And hair." Q: This whole act has grown so rapidly, you also have merchandise. Wasn’t really necessary to add him to the line-up, or was it? "Caine is a great friend of the family and we think he deserves a spot on this lineup. It wasn’t necessary but we thought it would be nice to help a friend out. Also he has promised a handjob to all three of us for letting him play." Q: 75% of the tickets have sold so far. If you had to appeal to those people who want to go but haven’t made a decision yet because they are unsure what to expect, what would you say to them? "JUST. FUCKING. CUM. Scott Brown. The ultimate legend of the UK Hardcore/Happy Hardcore genre. The anthem making machine from Scotland. If you never heard of UK Hardcore or Happy Hardcore before and you needed to be introduced properly, you should look out for mixes made by Scott Brown or contain Scott Brown records (like the one you are about to listen to). This man has single handedly shapen Hardcore and made it a better place for us ravers. Bloody Nora, THOHH have made this wicked tribute mix to the legend, using a lot of obscure Scott Brown records I've not heard before. And I considered myself a huge fan. So no quick mixing/short radio edits, only the length necessary to get the message across. And people seem to like this a lot! Who doesn't want to hear piano focussed Hardcore records? Artcore. A word that resembled a movement started in the 90s. It was Hardcore, but more futuristic. The main man behind the label was Ruffneck, and with his forward thinking he created this awesome label (well, several labels to be precise), and the movement was born. It still has a huge following all over the world, and I'm amongst those who think this is a sound we need more in our lives. Fusco's mix was highlighted on Soundcloud to me, and seeing as the logos used in the picture are known by me, I had to give this a go. And I wasn't disappointed! Yes, it's an Artcore mix containing shitload of records from labels such as Gangsta Records, Ruffneck Records, Ruffex Records. So what's there NOT to like? He used vinyl only. And he selected 14 wicked records from the back catalogue of the Artcore movement. The end result is an hour long mix. Is it worth checking out? Is it worth to sit for this an hour long? But no matter if they are true underground or obscure underground records, they are still true to the Artcore movement. The tracklist is a thing of beauty. It's always a bonus if a mix is made by using vinyl only. And that's exactly what he has done. Tiny (really tiny) cross fading errors, but nothing else. I'm not taking points aways from the main score for those tiny errors.. Anyway, what's the biggest and best record in this mix? By far the most famous one in this mix is 'Don't Fuck With A Ruffneck'. But it's not my favourite! It's actually the last record used in this mix, 'The Enemy'. Fuck me hard, that's a beast. I forgot the drop in the middle of this record: has blown many speakers in the past! This has got to be the most Artcore record I've ever heard, and the best Ruffneck song BY FAR! It's a long time ago since we last heard a Selectabwoy mix. Maybe a bit too long ago. His 'Evolution Of Hardcore' mix series is doing serious damage all over the world! This is a unique concept, for which Selectabwoy goes through all the crates and asks people for specific records, and creates this hour-ish long mix, containing the finest DnB/Jungle/Early Hardcore records. It's a success concept that should get the recognition it deserves. And now we've come to the sixth instalment, for which he has dug deep, and found some serious contenders for being all-time favourite records. But, before we continue, let's address the elephant in the room. I'm not familiar with the rich history of Hardcore music as such. I do know the most played and well received records, but the underground stuff, that's something new to me. I've missed out on a lot when these tunes dominated the clubs. This sound simply did not cross the pond. Or maybe I wasn't open to it? Whatever the reason might be, it's time for me to go deeper into this sound. And for this he got some awesome gems. If Selectabwoy was a drug dealer, this would have been crystal meth. The finest of the finest. 'Say my name'-good. This hour will fly by. And truth be told, it's not an hour. It's an hour and a half. Selectabwoy ALWAYS impresses me, and this sixth mix is just another slammer. And bwoy, those tracks are ricidilously insane! The commenter on Soundcloud was so damn right. Normally I'm picky, and I always find something wrong. But nothing, absolutely nothing. I have tried to find an error, but nothing could be found. Every record is on spot, the mixing is dope, and, well, the vibes this mix has generated are all wicked! What this mix also points out to me is that these 'underground' records still stood the test of time. These records are around 23/24/25 years old, you have got to remember that! And they weren't made on laptops and shitty software: the producers made an effort, on basic machinery (compared to the present day equipment). And it's still strong, powerful music. It hasn't lost the meaning behind each and every record. Selectabwoy, damn you. You've made another AWESOME mix. Credit where credit is due! An all out 5 out of 5 stars from TCD! Jason S, the mix master, tagged TCD a few days ago on Facebook. I did spot a post earlier that day, but sadly didn't save it. Of course the mix master was promoting his latest mix, which is his 2018 Year mix, and as usual he has done the weirdest thing, raised the bar for himself, and mixed so many records together, I don't know how he actually breathes inbetween the mixing bit. He just keeps on feeding us Hardcore for an hour. 106 records. Is he nuts? How does he do that? I simply find it staggering that he found the time to mix this together so beautifully, and make it sound effortless. The result is, as you would expect, a very interesting mix. 2018 has been yet another great year for Hardcore, and you will see (once you look at the tracklist) that it's been a diverse year too! Talking about move, Sefa made it big in 2018. It was definately his year. His music was played literally everywhere, and I think he even had a cameo on the latest Thunderdome album. But I'm not a fan of his music. I appreciate his burst onto the scene, and it's amazing to have achieved this at his age, but his music is just really not my cup of tea. It just sounds so bland and boring.. It does contain a few interesting records, especially before the music turns into Uptempo Hardcore. But I'm an oldskool freak, so the one record that made me moist the most is 'Hardcore To The Bone', remixed by N-Vitral. A touch of the old and new, that's what I like. A few eeeks ago I came into contact with someone on Soundcloud who made this Scott Brown mix. Project X his name was. And now under his alias Kyle he made a new channel on Soundcloud and already has two mixes on there. Depending on what your preference is, you could go for the Hardstyle one or the Hardcore one. If you start your mix with 'Fuck The Titties' and end with 'Nobody Said It Was Easy', the rollercoaster ride is clear: it's going to be epic. There are a few cross fading errors here and there. Sometimes it goes smooth, sometimes it doesn't. Doesn't ruin the outcome of the mix though, don't get me wrong. Anyway, the general gist of this mix is good. Love the vibes, loving the records. Charlotte de Witte. I had to Google her for her past, because, even though I've seen her name before, I do not know her background story. What I did know was that she's one of the quickest rising superstars in the Techno scene. At the age of 27 (or thereabout) she has become such a big name and plays at the biggest events all over the world, it would have been daft for me NOT to review one of her livesets, which I have found yesterday. It's only been up on Soundcloud for 2 months, and it already attracted around 52.1k+ plays so far, and the comments are all positive. And I have to agree that I'm digging her style. According to Wikipedia, one of her comments about Techno is as follows: 'I find beauty in music stripped down and bold. Less is more'. That's certainly true. It can be nice to have nice melodies and 365497 beautiful bassdrums, but why not keep it minimalistic? That doesn't mean the music does not pack a punch though, as you will find out! There's no recording of the audience, but I guess they were blown away by her sheer power and determination to get everyone dancing. She has certainly achieved that! I'm sitting here at home, raving my ass off. She has made a name for herself, and I've got to give her credit for this inspiring set. I've not heard of this event before, or really knew the history of Charlotte de Witte, but she gets the thumbs up from me. This DJ is eager to showcase that people should focus on the music, and that looks are irrelevant. I would certainly agree with that statement: as long as the DJ can move your body, who cares what they look like. Man or woman. I simply couldn't care less. It's all about the music. Be it Techno or any other style. Charlotte's set is intense and powerful, and the time does fly by. Not one moment during this hour and a half set is boring. And the great thing about her set is that I do sense a lot of influences from the early Techno era. Basically, everything is perfect about her set. I'm getting more excited each single day. One of the biggest parties of 2019 is about to happen (only a handful of days away), and I'm going. I'm obviously talking about the GPF event (which isn't a GPF event). I feel like a 12 year old boy who is about to get kissed by the most beautiful girl in the classroom. Seriously, my happiness level has reached its peak, and truth be told, nothing can take that away from me. To get me even more hyped up, I do listen to everything GPF related every single day. And I tweet the fucking sods. And I let the world know how excited I am. The thing is, I cannot explain to other to what I'm going. Does anyone know what GPF is? Imagine telling this to friends and family, who do not like anything Hardstyle/Hardcore related. 'yes, I'm going to GPF and there's going to be a lot of BPM flying around, oh, and Matty is dead'. The last couple of days I kind of had enough of the harder stuff. I wanted something to ease my mind, and luckily, I can always rely on ATTLAS. This superstar producer/DJ's Soundcloud page is always the best place to find awesome music. If you want cinematic music (or whatever it is you call it), his page is full of it. So I visited his page, and found a mix he made especially for last year's Electric Forest. Completely missed it when it came out. This hour long masterpiece does get recognized by the listeners. It's received nearly 15k so far, and it will go only up and up. This kind of music always attracks a lot of fans, and people are enthusiastic whenever they spot an ATTLAS mix. I'm one of them: have played his previous mixes over and over again, and have reviewed each and every one of them (besides this one, until now). I wanted to say that 2018 was Technikore's year, but I would be lying. Since he emerged onto the UK Hardcore scene, EVERY year has been Technikore's year. It's been an interesting few years for Technikore, if truth be told. I can remember going onto his website and downloading his HTID mix a long time ago, and now he's part of the well established order, leading the way towards a brighter future for us UK Hardcore lovers. And I'm proud to say that his 'EOY' mix is one you need to check out. It's a mix that does Technikore justice! I can't remember when I last downloaded a Technikore mix, but it wasn't that long ago: it contained a lot of these records you will find in his EOY mix. And I don't know what it is, but he is on FIRE! If you have been living in a cave and missed out on what this man has been releasing, you will be in for a shock! He's taking UK Hardcore to the next level, a level I really appreciate. It's focussed on two major styles: UK Hardcore and EDM. Cram them together, and you get what Technikore is making. And production wise he's on spot! In this mix he used records made by himself, and also a few collaborations with artists such as Ravine, Mike Reverie, JTS, Suae, and more. One re-occuring theme is vocals. He loves vocals, and so do we. Things also need to stay uplifting: no dark and nasty stuff, with irrelevant drops and basses so nasty, it will make me soil myself. The music he's making keeps me on my feet, and makes me rave even harder! I think that's his goal as a producer: keep everyone raving. And he does exactly that! This mix is short. Only 47 minutes long. So don't expect records to be played 4 or 5 minutes. Max 2 minutes. But within those 2 minutes you want to move furniture away, put the stroboscopes on, and create your own living room rave! Fucking hell, he keeps us entertained for those 47 minutes. He does it ALWAYS! I can only find one tiny thing wrong with it: the S3RL record. I've tried many times, but I can't seem to understand his music. Sorry S3RL, no fan of the cheese. Obviously I'm still going to give this 5 out of 5 stars. Why? Because this mix is EPIC, and so is everything that Technikore does. And what I'm about to say right now might cause a stir within the scene, but he's number 1. Move over everyone else, Technikore is number 1. Ravers, where have we all been? 6 months ago a new podcast series called Pod Noodle was released, and the fans went mental. It reaches nearly 20k plays on Soundcloud, and other places too (don't have iTunes or Spotify). And I think at the time my perspective was that it would be a monthly or bi-monthly thing. Didn't expect it to take half a year lol. But they are back, Ed and Gordon a.k.a. Alexander Norman. Their artist name sounds like an explorer's name, and in a way they are explorers: more about that later. Remember those classic podcasts? You have probably seen the name of this event fly by every so often. Ouwe Stijl Is Botergeil. Old style is horny (butter horny). This event series focusses on the Early stuff, and not the new stuff. Why? Well, the older styles are butter horny. Over the years they have had sick line-ups, and some of these sets (which you can find on Soundcloud) are really exciting. The line-up for this year's event is a good one: Lenny Dee, Placid K, Re-charge, Faniac, Delta 9, The Enforcer, Casketkrusher, and more. And guess who made a promo mix for this event? Correct, it's none other than Casketkrusher! You never need to look far to find beautiful mixes. Especially when Casketkrusher made them. He's a genius. I love his own production mixes a lot, and his set from OSIB a few years ago remains one of my all-time favourite sets, but I do also appreciate mixes like the one you are about to press play on. Don't ask me how he finds these rare records, but I've got this inclination that he spends a lot of Euros on these records. Really astonishing, it has to be said! How does Casketkrusher find these anthems? And how come these are NOT played as much as they should? Is it because people are just forgetful, or cannot handle these raw beats anymore? Whatever the reason, it's dumb. You should hear these more often, these are classic anthems. And they have stood the test of time. Currently I'm bouncing my ass off here in London. Listening to some oldskool Hardcore. I do miss this atmosphere here, they should organise parties focussed on this music over here. But I can't seem to find them. Or it's cheesy music, or it's Jungle/DnB focussed Hardcore. And sometimes you just want to go all Dutch. Yes, there are a few Scottish and American producers in here, but the gist is still Dutch. Anyway, Casketkrusher's mix. It's great. And it's an eyeopener. You should get tickets for this event, just to see and hear this legend. Why not search on Soundcloud for his liveset from a previous OSIB event? That set is a beast. And if he's going to play like he did back then, you will be in for a ride of a lifetime. Tickets are only €20.05 (why the five cents???) and you can get all of this and more Early Hardcore sounds. I seriously can't remember if I'd already reviewed this back in 2015 or 2016. But this mix does appear as if I'd already seen it, heard it, reviewed it. But simply can't access my old folders, so there's no point. Let's focus on it once again. It's one of those mixes you need to hear at least once in your lifetime, and if you are lucky, listen to it at least once a month. 24k+ already did, and they all seem to like this mix. Can't argue with that, to be fair. It's one sick mix! Back in 2015 Metalheadz organised a party called 'History Session' at Phonox. Don't know how the event was, but if it was all focussed on the early DnB stuff, you must have experienced a majestic night! For those who didn't go, let's focus on the mix, made by Bailey, a player from Blue Note. For this mix he selected the bad boy year of 1996 and picked the tunes that dominated the DnB dancefloors all over the world. And if I can speak out loud, 1996 was a tremendous year for DnB. Wish I'd gone to this event, but hey, at least we've got this wonderful mix. Bailey has done really a great job. These records have stood the test of time, and have become timeless (see what I did there? a DnB/Metalheadz reference joke). This hour and 10 minute long mix is really my thing. The thing with DnB is the fact that it takes you on this energetic journey, and time does fly by so darn fast: the notion of things happening around you fades away. You are in this unknown territory, and it won't let you go. This mix has been intoxicating from the very first moment. I had to press play again, and enjoy it over and over. I can't control myself. It's been a good day. A hospital visit at the start, and after that I was allowed to work from home. And the first thing you do, is sit behind your computer and put the volume to 10. Or whatever the max is on your speakers. But to achieve the state of bliss, you need good music. And today, seeing as it has been a Friday, you need some Hardcore. Some good ol' frigging Hardcore from the glorious days. So Soundcloud, my mate, assisted me in the best way possible. I came across this French mix by Mr. vanux. Never heard of him or her before, but the thing that got me interested was the tracklist. And in particular one record, but we'll talk about that later. This was record for a radio show called 'Retro Is Not Dead', back in 2012. And the tracklist is a thing of beauty. Maybe two weird looking tracks, but the general gist is really good. Anyway, I've been a nob, so let's focus on the music. The tracklist shows promising records, including one of my favourite ones, made by the underrated Army of Darkness! 'This Is The Future'. What a classic anthem and a half! Haven't heard this in a while, and when I spotted this, it made the hairs at the back of my neck stand up! That legendary voice saying 'six hundred and sixty six...'. Scary is an understatement. This mix by vanux is nice. Not really tight as it should be, but it's enjoyable. It's got 'Frozen' in it (which is a huge disappointment), but at least it's got 'Frequencies', ' Necronomicon', ' This Is The Future' and more. I wouldn't mind pressing play again. If you grew up in the 90s, Hellbound was the one thing we always listened to. This rougher sounding Hardcore was just our cup of tea, and sometimes it was all that could please us. And funnily enough, the haters of Hardcore said it wouldn't last long, but it clearly did! Back in 2012 they organised this demonic event, and the line-up was sickening! Painbringer (who made this promo mix), Leviathan, Laurent Ho, Delta 9, Mindustries, Lowroller, Synapse, Omkara, Nosferatu, Ophidian, and so many more. It's an unbelievable line-up, but fucking hell, we are nearly 7 years too late to get excited for this. Ah hell, that's a bummer. But at least we've got Painbringer's promo mix, eh? And it's a good one. If you love the early stuff. If you are a hater, join the queue, but don't bother us, eh? Anyhow, let's focus on this promo mix. 45 minutes of early stuff, and a few of Painbringer's own productions, what can go wrong? Nothing much. Giuseppe Ottaviani, a legendary name in the Trance scene. Someone who really doesn't need to be introduced. If you are a fan of Trance music, you are already following him on all social media platforms, and are a fanatic on Souncloud. You are probably (like myself) fully into his music and listen to as much as you can. And you also get excited whenever he releases something new and exciting, like he did 4 days ago. A vinyl set? All Giuseppe records? Oh yeah baby! Now that's sexy. It's like Christmas has come early (or late, depending if you are a half full or half empty person). In this vinyl only set he has selected a lot of wicked records. But I'm not sure if these are recently made: it sounds like these were the early works of Guiseppe. Whenever it was made, it was made with love and passion, and you can hear it throughout the set. So much Trancy feelings, you cannot hate this mix. It's nice, calm, and becomes very much emotional when you want it to be. The power of Trance has no limits, and this showcase mix is just picture perfect. What makes it perfect is the way the music flows: there's no mistake throughout this set, and the flow is continuous. And THAT is what I want to hear. No sudden stop or judder when mixing vinyl records. Giuseppe is the master of the turntables. Which record is the best? Well, we can start a debate, but it's pointless. It's futile. Why? Because the best record is 'Through Your Eyes'. Simple. You can disagree, but your opinion isn't valid. The tremendous build up, you don't get that anymore. Am I the only one who sometimes wakes up and wants to hear a specific artist the whole day? The other day I felt the urge to hear something very happy (maybe sometimes a tad cheesy) and exciting, and in a weird way I started to have a craving for Alex Prospect. I wanted to hear his last album 'Dedicated', so I went on the hunt and came across this mix by ChexMixer on Soundcloud. You can imagine my state of happiness after hearing this. Before you get all angry and start trolling me, I do have the album. But it's on my home PC and at the time I needed to hear it, I was at work. So it was kind of complicated: couldn't go to my boss and say that I needed to go home to get an album. I would have been shot. So Soundcloud is always my friend in time of need. DJ ChexMixer's set is, as you would have guessed, an album showcase mix. According to the info this is the 8th so far. Haven't found the time yet to check the others, I wanted to hear only Alex Prospect. Does that make me a fanboy? Or just a huge douchebag? Whatever I am, I am dedicated (see what I did there?). Fuck me, that's impressive. But what's more impressive is the quality of the anthems! When you have a craving, always fullfill your needs. And when I did, I wanted more. So I kept pressing play over and over. This has dominated my working day completely. Sadly no-one in the office agrees with my musical choice (Hardcore, isn't that just boom boom boom?). So headphones were required, and they made working lush. Thanks Alex, for making my working day even better! This mix is a belter. It contains the records I needed. So damn good. But which one is just the best? To this question there's only one answer: 'Colours'. Such a happy vibes tune. The vocals are truly astonishing. And so goddamn uplifting! His finest record. ChexMixer's dedicated mix turns out to be really interesting. Worth a listen! When Angerfist does something, he does it well. This Hardcore mastermind knows how to get the Hardcore masses all together at the AFAS in Amsterdam, and throw a wicked party for his latest album, which was obviously called 'Creed Of Chaos'. Not only was Angerfist there (would be slightly unusual if he wasn't!), he had a few friends there: Miss K8, Partyraiser, Denekamps Gespuis, Mad Dog, Drokz, Furyan, I:Gor, D-Fence, Le Bask, Akira, Crucifier, and MC Nolz. A nice selection of artists, if truth be told. Angerfist obviously recorded a few sets, including his own. And during his set, he showed the raving massive what they could expect to hear on his newest album. The event was packed solid: no tickets could be purchased due to it being sold out completely. There was no room whatsoever. Ravers everywhere. And it shows that Angerfist is number 1 in the scene. This masked hero, this legendary producer, has done it again. This liveset is such a bliss, and it contains wicked fucking anthems. Maybe I shall purchase his album, shall it? I've already got all the others, but simply forgot this one. To 'met de deur in huis vallen', the MC is not a contribution of the set. But I think I've said that before many of times. Maybe it's different when you are there, but sitting here it just sounds like he's just screaming constantly, even when it's not needed. Never understood why Angerfist needed an MC. When it comes to the actual set, the records are again spot on. This genius knows how to keep Hardcore interesting. He obviously is influences by other styles, and you can hear it very clear in each and every record. But, as always, which record is my favourite? Today, at work, I wanted to hear some oldskool House tunes. And for me during the 90s, the only compilation that mattered was Turn Up The Bass. Yes, House Party was great, but not as good as TUTB. So a quick Soundcloud search for something related to TUTB (I was hoping the albums would be on there), but I found something else! A mix by Arjan van der Paauw. By judging his name he looks kind of Dutch, like myself. So he probably also grew up with this majestic compilation. His mix is a mix and mash. You get the classics, the ones we all love, and a bit more. It's a megamix: 58 records in 58 minutes. So don't expect to throw a House Party which will last for hours: this party only lasts for 58 minutes. But those 58 minutes are so glorious. This music is much better than everything produced nowadays. This is timeless music. And Arjan did pick a nice selection of records. Finger licking good! I've missed so many parties! Why this statement, you might be wondering? Well, that's because of the fact that I found this set on Soundcloud today, during an extremely crappy day. I wasn't having the best day, and felt in need of something powerful. Something that could uplift me. I could listen to all pop music, but that would make me suicidal. Uplifting to me means music that takes me to a higher atmosphere, a unique level only visited by die-hard Hard Dance lovers. Not the fakes: they will fall down flat on their asses. Don't really know much about Delete or his VIP music, but it's still raw and rough, and that's uplifting enough for me. But the end result is 30 minutes of smashing your head against the wall (of sound), and having your eardrums pierced with continuous filth and anxiety. You cannot control your body when you hear these VIP versions of his already famous records. For me it was an introduction: seen his name in mixes, but never a full-on Delete mix. There's a small mixing error (track starts to skip), but Delete quickly turned it around. He doesn't fuck about, and makes sure you do get what you paid your well earned money for. New year, new mixes pouring in. And today it's all about the mysterious masked hero, M-Project. Since he first appeared on my timeline he's been a mystery to me. I've always tried to figure out who the man is behind the mask, but he has hidden it so well, I don't even think he knows who he is without the mask. M-Project 24/7. But not only that, he also included tracks by several big stars from all the globe. The only negative thing I could find was the fact that he used 'Luv U More' in his set. Maybe the ravers do appreciate this track, but I'm really getting sick and annoyed about the Tweekacore guys. It's not my cup of tea, and quite frankly, rubbish. But that's just me. This fresh sounding Tech Trance record has such a depth to it, and it was exactly what I needed to hear. And these two legends have uploaded a nice NYE gift for us: a 3 hour and 20 minute long EOYM. The other day something magical happened: someone from the Hardstyle scene started following me on Twitter. None other than the most Scottish looking DJ called Caine! Truth be told, I had to look up some info about this bearded warrior. I've seen his name before (it did ring a bell) but not really sure what his back story was/is. Turns out he's much younger than me (nearly 9 years younger), but it's the beard that makes him look 48. Anyway, this bearded Rawstyle fanatic started following me (maybe it's got something to do with GPF?) and I got excited! Why? Well, I have seen his name before and knew of his existence, but never actually reviewed a set by him. So I thought 'let's visit my old friend Soundcloud and see if it has something for me I can talk about'. And there it was. Among other stuff on it, a liveset! With a tracklist! Now that blew me away, and my excitement level did rise to an unusual high. And it became idiotic after hearing the set the first time! I've never had the chance to go to Defqon.1 due to my illness and work, but it does have a reputation. If you play there, you have made it. You play in front of the hardest crowd in the world. He looks genuinely like he escape from a very cool and dope post nuclear world- PS4 game. And his music sounds exactly like that! It's raw to the bone, and it does give me one too! (a boner of course). But before we start getting hyped up, let's talk about the music, and not my General's status (General = my genital). The music is intoxicating. It's really refreshing! I don't know what it is with Rawstyle, but it grabs me and doesn't let me go. It makes me hyped up to such a point: if I'm driving, I will generally start driving ridiculously fast and start flashing everyone. It makes my nipples erect, but that's my problem. My parents would say this is aggressive music, and they have got a point. Normally I'm not an aggressive person, but this makes me aggo. And happy at the same time. But there's a huge disappointment with Caine's set. The stupid 'Defqon.1' jingles. Don't know how they creeped up, but they did not align with the music whatsoever. And it kind of annoyed me. The music is great, and it keeps my heart's BPM high, but hearing 'Defqon.1' randomly is just a tad weird. And the person with the mic in his hand... should know when to stay quiet and let Caine's music do the talking! Best record? Oh, there were so many. But the level of darkness like I've never heard of before, was reached during 'Product Of Environment'. The vocals just made the record excellent! I also liked the weird 'A Phat Beat!'. The Scottish have got a thing, their lingo is just so excellent. Wish I could speak it. It would make 'Trainspotting' much easier for me to understand. Anyway, besides the jingles being a pain in the arsehole, the set is wicked. Just what I needed to get me going through the weekend. I must and shall see Caine this year. I need some of his raw Hardstyle coming in my ears (well, that might sound wrong, but you know what I mean!). The end of the year is emerging quickly, and why not end the year with an unusual mix? A kind of music I used to adore to the bone, but sadly grew out of it. Don't know why, but I do. 4x4 Bassline music, or just generally named Bassline, it used to be so extremely big. And the thousand mixtapes I downloaded, a testimony for my love and admiration for the sound. I don't even think that I have heard a Bassline mix in 2018. Or maybe I have, but forgotten all about it. You've seen it here first (well, probably not to be fair). But what you have noticed is that this is a super extreme diverse tracklist. You have got literally everything mashed together, from the old to the new. Obviously, me being an oldskool gabber the older section appealed more to me, but I gave the newer stuff a go. The older, classics anthems are all awesome. Jason S' selection is without a doubt awesome. His mixing skills are through the roof, and has made this mix extremely interesting. Even after the 'Middle Chill' section it stays highly entertaining. But the newer section, does that appeal to yours truly? The answer is simple: no. I'm not feeling the Sefa vibes yet. At the moment I do not see him as the talented boy, the gifted one. Videos of him are shared in their thousands online, but I'm not feeling it. Before the third installment of the Die Hard collection was released, many disagreed with him being on the album. Well, that was a bit harsh, because everyone deserves a chance. But if I would have bought it, I would have left that disc aside. It doesn't do a single thing to me. Anyway, that's just my perspective. You might think he's the 'wunderkind'. Ah well. Or maybe I have misinterpreted that : still don't know half of the producers. But hey, it's all about the music, and that's exactly what you get! It's been a good year, not just for Trance music, but for all styles. But Trance has seen a booming year, with excellent releases. And without a doubt, RAM's mix contains shitloads of them. He went all the way, and made this fantastic year mix. The four hours (as I said before) do fly by ridiculously fast. But that's not just because it's his mix, but it's because Trance music is so powerful, and can travel through space and time. Trance is the black hole of the music scene. It can uplift you, and take you somewhere else, without you even moving! Quality over quantity. Well, you get both. Some records were a bit less interesting. Can't name them, because I was not looking at the tracklist when the mix was playing, I was working (remember?). They were alright, but not exciting. But that's only a handful of records. I would say 91% of the records did kick ass. I can't pick a favorite. I simply can't. You can't pick at all! It's 4 hours long! So it's difficult. A generous mix. You won't find mixes this interesting today. Maybe tomorrow there will be one, but today RAM's mix is the one taking us to the next dimension. It was for an event I'd not heard of either: Resonate. For any who are anticipating on going: you are too damn late. This party has already happened. So you might want to wait for next year's event. Until then you've got a wonderful and exciting Millennium Hardcore mix to listen to, longer than usual! What the Lethal Sound have done is mixed 68 records, all records from the golden and amazing years of Hardcore (which were between 2005 and 2011). So basically what you could expect at Resonate. This is one of those rare albums, not for sale, only available via promotional channels. And someone on Discogs pointed out to me how I did get this one: back in 2002 after raving the night away in the Amsterdam Rai at Innercity everyone leaving the building was given this CD. So it's not that rare: I reckon around 40,000 people must have been there. But it stands out for many reasons. Firstly it was ID&T and a cigarette manufacturer who released this album. In the present day that would not be happening. People smoking is a definite no-no... and on this album you see exactly that happening. Like I would mind: an ex-smoker/current vaper. Anyway, it's different. But also the music: a progressive House album. Don't have many of them. But no matter how you look at this album: it's a genuine masterpiece! The music on it has stood the test of time. According to the contributor on Discogs it was mixed by Ricky Rivaro. And it's a serious rollercoaster. A nice (and not forced) transition between each and every track. You can put this on in the background and enjoy it. I certainly know no-one who hates this. And I've played this many times over the years. 16 years old, still sounding excitingly fresh. Even my parents enjoy it. And that says something. It was given to me for free after Innercity (well, spent at least a grand in there on drinks and merchandising, which I have lost over the years sadly), and I'm still grateful for ID&T and Camel for this compilation. It's really a cheerful, happy and enjoyable. And it's got so many great and yet underrated records on it. I'm watching Clubland TV every day hoping I get to hear these gems, but sadly it's all shit they play. This is music given to us by God himself. Let's break the favorite record bit into two, seeing as there are two CDs. On the first the Cleptomaniacs record is truly gifted (a Stevie Wonder classic), but it's 'Good Enough' that makes me smile. Such a lounge anthem! I can close my eyes and picture myself in Korfu, Greece, sipping a nice cocktail whilst looking out towards the ocean, eating peanuts at the same time. So relaxing. Second CD. Come on, that's a no-brainer: 'People Are People', the song this CD starts with. So effective and highly enjoyable. I'm not looking out towards the ocean anymore, I'm dancing in a lounge club, whilst the lasers penetrate my eye lids and the foam is up my neck. Oh gosh, I love this anthem so much! A wonderful and relaxing CD. Whoever decided to make this compilation is a genius. If you can find a copy online, order it now! This won't be a disappointment.
