- 8 Ball - Scott Brown Tribute Mix (2022)
I am a fan of Scott Brown. But to be fair, who isn't? Everyone is a Scott Brown fan, even those that don't know Scott. He's such a legendary producer that has made so many memorable UK Hardcore, Happy Hardcore, and Gabber anthems over the few decades he's been active in the scene. Such an influence to many, and he's still going strong. There are many mixes on Soundcloud, dedicated to this legendary producer, but today's mix is one that certainly has one of the highest listening statistics I have seen so far. It seems that people have listened to this mix a lot, and I'm now one of the stats. I don't know how long exactly Scott Brown has been in the scene, but it feels like he's always been there. He's been 'in my life' as long as I can remember. Obviously growing up I listened to Dutch Hardcore, and have heard a few Scott Brown songs, which were good, but it's around 2000 when I discovered UK Hardcore, and that's when everything just changed for me. Sy & Unknown were the first two DJs I noticed, closely followed by Scott Brown. I even think that the first UK Hardcore album purchased by myself was down to the fact that I recognised Scott's name. Because of him I am now a fan of the scene. When I discovered this mix, I saved it, to listen to it at a later stage. Today is the day I had an hour spare, and now I'm listening to 8 Ball's mix. I am not the first to listen to this mix, as it already has 14,2k+ plays within 2 years. It's a bit of an unusual name, 8 Ball, but hey ho, whatever works for you, use it. But I'm not here judging the DJ's name, but the mix. is it worth an hour of your time, or is this something you need to ignore, and never listen to? Plus System - This Is How We Do It (Intro Mix) Plus System - Let's All Get Down Scott Brown - Life As We Know It Scott Brown - Wakey Wakey Scott Brown - Heaven In Your Eyes Scott Brown presents Plus System - Rock Tha Beat Scott Brown - Blue Anthem Scott Brown - We Don't Give A Damn Plus System - Commence Scott Brown - Do It Like We Do Plus System - God's Child Scott Brown - Memories Scott Brown - Neck Breaker Scott Brown - The Stranger Scott Brown - Definition Of A Bad Boy Sy & Unknown - Bring Me Round To Love (Scott Brown Remix) Scott Brown - Hardcore U Know The Score Scott Brown - We Can Dance I've seen and heard these songs a million times, and they have not annoyed me once. Some records have got the power to remain energetic and powerful. Some become dull after 10+ plays, but not any of Scott's songs. They are all solid as a rock. Oh how I love a full on Scott Brown appreciation mix. It's the best of the best. UK Hardcore's finest producer songs in one mix. How lovely. But I have to admit, maybe the tracklist is a bit off, as it only came with track titles and not the 'artist' name. We know it's Scott, but is it Scott or one of his million aliases? If I made a mistake, apologies. The mix, well, that's another story. It's GLORIOUS. I love it. From the wicked intro to the last Gabber track. It's really good. The selection is great, but to be fair, most of these appreciation mixes would use the same tracks. But I don't give a fucking shit. They are all solid anthems. Well, besides one that I genuinely 'hate'. 'Do It Like We Do'. Cringeworthy. That's a bad song. But which is the best? My go-to-song is always 'Wakey Wakey'. One of the best Scott Brown songs ever made. A wicked mix. Definitely worth your time. Check it out! If this is your first introduction to Scott Brown, it's a good representation of what the man can do. He can make timeless classics! - Colin H - February Early 2000s Vinyl Video Mix (mostly Pounding Grooves) (2024)
Since discovering some old Innercity sets from the year I went, I am constantly listening to Techno music from around the year 2000. That makes me very happy. And the music, to me, was so dominate in my life. It controlled my life, as it was a 'replacement' to the Hardcore scene slowing going underground. I needed a replacement style of music, and Techno suited my needs extremely well. And guess what I have found? A mix containing Techno anthems from around 2000, the golden years for me! Oh, that makes me very happy indeed! This isn't the first mix I have reviewed, which was made by Colin H, but it's certainly not going to be the last. I did check, and two previous mixes were focussed on UK Hardcore/Breakbeat Hardcore, and one was focussed on Traxtorm Records. But now, we ain't going to listen to any Hardcore, just pure Techno bangers. If you are into Millennium Techno, this is a mix you should definitely check out. I am a lover of Techno released around 2000, but I'm not an expert. There are so many names, and I can't remember them all. And some of these artists have slipped under the radar. There's a few names in this mix. I might have heard the songs before, but the names of the artists are a bit unknown to me. But don't you worry, that certainly didn't spoil my listening session. It has only been online for a few days, but I'm certain that I have played this at least 5 times a day. This is the kind of Techno I crave on a daily basis, this is what I grew up listening to... and it still sounds awesome to this day. But at least it's not too late to appreciate good music. Colin H has done a remarkable job, and made a very interesting mix. The hour long mix has got so many bangers in here, time will fly by once you start listening to this mix. And it's got the right tracks to get you going. Powerful and energetic. This mix has got it all. And it's got probably the dopest track of all time. But that's debatable, if you are agreeing with me or not. Once the 15th track hits, it hits hard. 'Two B 30' by Adam Bayer and Henrik B. My God, that just touched me deep down inside. That track is so powerful, I wasn't even hearing this song at an event and I was fist bumping the air, stomping my feet, and bopping my head up and down. This is seriously some powerful anthem and a half! Colin's mix is dope, but that track just takes the whole mix to another level. A solid mix, and if you want it, you can have it for free (download enabled). I would suggest you give this mix a go. You won't be disappointed. You will be enlightened with the knowledge that mixes like this one exist! It's dope, and what else is there to say? - Sven Väth - Live From Innercity Amsterdam (30-12-2000)
I have mentioned this event so many times over the last ten years, people must think I am obsessed with it. And truth be told, I am. Just look at the line up, just look at it. This is an amazing line-up, and I have got fond memories. And it was affordable too: it was only €41 (ex. presale fee). For such a line-up, at such an amazing location, and for such an event, I was happy to have spent the money on it, and I am glad that I went. I still love hearing sets from that event, and you are about to listen to Sven Väth's set, recorded at Innercity, which is roughly 23 years ago. And trust me when I say, this set still sounds awesome! During the night, I remember walking around a lot. It was a true maze. And if you were to ask me if I witnessed Sven Väth's full set, I think the answer has to be be a definitive 'no'. There were a few areas I was wondering around it throughout the night. Especially the Progressive area (when Tiesto started, you could not get in or out, it was packed solid), Techno, and the Main. The UK Garage area was the last one I discovered, when I was on my way out basically. Some have got mixed feelings, I only have positive ones. There were so many great names at this event, and to hear a set from when I was there, is always amazing to discover. Sven played on the main stage alongside a few other big names, such as Angelo, Jean, Marco V, Green Velvet (one of the worst sets I've ever heard), Paul van Dyk, and Remy. A good place to put him, as he's a crowd pleaser. He certainly did his best to entertain the crowd, and I think it's time for you to listen to this set (if you haven't already). The set was uploaded 10 years ago to this dodgy Soundcloud channel. But you can find it anywhere else too, if it does get taken down. My God, the second I heard the first song, I knew I was going to be teleported back to 2000. Standing in front of the Amsterdam RAI, and I only wore a t-shirt and shorts, as you cannot rave with thick clothing. And it started to snow. I don't know if I was well enough to be awake during the next day's New Year's Eve, but I couldn't care less. If I close my eyes now, I am back at the entrance, experiencing it all again. Sven's selection is diverse, and quite good. I don't know where this was taken from: I'm guessing it is a recording taken from whichever radio station broadcasted it at the time? The quality every so often sucks, but this is a 20+ year old recording, obviously quality was different back then. But at least we can still hear the tunes coming at us. It is like I'm there again, walking around a million miles, drunk as f**k, waving my hands in the air. Oh, I miss the good ol' days. The set is good. Not flawless, but still highly enjoyable. 'Robot Is Systematic' and 'Sustained Buxom Mad Chips' are my most favourite songs from Sven's set, closely followed by 'Betty Ford' and 'Function 1'. This set has got some big anthems, highly underrated in them. And the overall feedback on Soundcloud is positive. People seem to love this set, and I have to agree. A very solid set, energetic and powerful. This will get you through the day. 2 hours of Innercity, 2 hours of Sven Väth, 2 hours of Techno. Couldn't wish for anything else. This is lovely! - Stamina Records (The Beginning) [Mixed By M@rt!n-J] (2024)
Only 2 months ago did I discover a mix made by M@rt!n-J, which was focussed on the legendary Freeform label called Stamina Records, which was focussed on an album released in 2014. This time, we go back to the beginning of Stamina Records. According to their Discogs page, they started back in 2011, and they've been a fascinating force in the scene. Recent announcements have made us all think of the awesome back catalogue this label has, and M@rt!n-J decided to showcase the first few years, and which awesome records were released on this glorious label. The label is taking an extended and indefinite break this year. And even though we are all sad and devastated, we have to be positive. We have to look at all the glorious anthems they have released over the 12+ years, and what they have meant for the Freeform scene. I consider myself a Freeform fanatic, and a fan of the label, and as sad as I am to see them taking a break, at least we've got a fantastic catalogue to fall back onto. And that's what M@rt!n-J has done. And guess what? He made a mix which contains 15 of the finest anthems released on Stamina Records. And it feels like an homage to the label. We have to acknowledge that the label has done so much for ravers all over the UK, and the world too. They have set the bar pretty high, and their releases as of top notch quality. The label has had an amazing run, and hopefully they'll come back soon. They do deserve a break, a well deserved break. Who knows what will happen in the future? For now, let's look at the past, and the awesome tunes selected for this mix: A.B & Nick 235 feat Rhona - Silence A Prayer (Intro Mix) Douglas - Ice Cream Andy Dee - Forever Yours (Dark Mix) Douglas - In My Mind A.B - Alright Douglas - Grawlix A.B - Phoenix Cube::Hard & Douglas - Codex (Darwin's VIP Remix) Douglas - Division By Zero (Coming Up/BliP Edit) A.B & Douglas vs DJ Ned (CLSM) - Hold On (S3RL Remix) Transcend - Spirit Of Hades A.B - Engine S3RL & Synthwulf - Everybody Wants To Be A DJ (S3RL's Stylecore Remix) Little Fella - Guest List A.B & Nick 235 feat Rhona - Future's Past This brings a huge smile on my face, but every mix M@rt!n-J does, is an amazing piece of work. And to commemorate the majestic label Stamina Records, there should be no reason to make the mix. The label is awesome, and this latest mix by this DJ, is a wonderful addition to my growing admiration for the DJ. He keeps feeding us excellent mixes. Please, don't ever stop. I am loving this mix. But truth be told: I do listen to a lot of Stamina Records lately, and I do have a daily dosage of Freeform, with most tracks from this label. I do adore the label, and the music is ace. Yet another slamming mix. Only credit where credit is due. This is one of M@rt!n-J's best mixes, and he's made a few over the years. This is one of the finest, mainly because it's filled with Stamina Records anthems, and it's full of Freeform anthems. And it's got 'Alright' in it, which is such an underrated anthem! Check this bad boy out! Yet another amazing mix that will put a smile on your face. - Hardcore Vibes (2024)
Another week has arrived, and we need something to get us going. The weather looks a tad atrocious, and not very happy. We need something that can put a smile on our faces. And have I got the right mix for you! The genre of music is Happy Hardcore, and that in itself can put a smile on your face. And I love Happy Hardcore. To find a mix that can put a smile on your face, that's the reason why I write reviews. And this one might put an even bigger smile on your face. The mix was shared on Soundcloud, and it was by accident that I found it. The DJ who made this mix is called Adrenalin. The account on Soundcloud is fairly new, but there is a bit of information available, if you are interested. You can find out a bit more who made this mix. But for now, let us focus on the mix, and if it has the potential to get us through the day, or maybe even the week. The mix is an hour long, and has got 18 Happy Hardcore anthems in it. And as much as I consider myself a huge fan of Happy Hardcore, there are still a lot of tracks out there I haven't heard before, and there's a few in this mix. Every day is a new day to learn forgotten or less appreciated anthems, or anthems that you just never heard before because when they were released, it wasn't your cup of tea. Who knows? Let's jump the Happy Hardcore train, and let's get a move on! Kinetic Pleasure - Higher Vibes & Wishdokta - No More Tears Edit V - Sensation (Vibes & Wishdokta Remix) Jimmy J & Cru-L-T - Six Days Happy Tunes - I Want You Baby Happy Tunes - Sanctuary Of Love WE 3 - Groovy Dimension Forbes & Cyclone - Faze 1 DJ Mr Hyde - Release Scott Brown - Systematic DJ Slam - Knowledge Scott Brown - Do What You Like Happy Tunes - The Anthem A Sense Of Summer - On Top (Hixxy Remix) DJ Brisk - Airhead Billy Bunter & JDS - Come Alive (Billy Bunter Remix) DJ Selecta & GL 2 - Incognito Oaysis - Awaited (Slipmatt Remix) The tracks are really good. I've been listening to this mix multiple times in a row, and I'm still very happy to have discovered it. Yes, the title might be a bit misleading, as you maybe hoped it had Dune's 'Hardcore Vibes' in it, but those 18 records are still solid anthems. It's a really intoxicating mix with some serious dancefloor fillers. These were the tunes from back in the day, they got us all back onto the dancefloor. And it got a lot of ravers up on the dancefloor, whistling like they never whistled before. And hands would go up in the air. Those were the golden days. I really liked this mix, and I've got no negative feedback. The songs are great. Great selection of anthems. And the one that has the most memories is 'Six Days'. That is still a classic to this day. Not 100% where I was when I heard it the first time, but I still remember which album it was on. A solid anthem, that's for sure. If you want to be happier, this is the right mix for you. It will take you back to the 90s, and will leave you happier for at least 24 hours. Maybe even longer, if you let it. Maybe play this mix at least once a day this week, and see how your week goes! - Housequake Volume 1 (2006)
The last couple of days I've been thinking of all the events I've been to, over the years. And there have been quite a few decent ones. Some of those events you can see on YouTube, which made me think more of the good ol' days, and which artists I have seen. I can't remember them all, as my memory has been corrupted by the sheer volume of alcohol during the 90s/00s, but after checking out Sensation 2002 - The White Edition on YouTube, I wanted to hear some more DJ Erick E. Soundcloud provided me with an album I've not seen before, and it's one he made with dj Roog, another DJ I have seen. And it's filled with House anthems from around 2006. Couldn't ask for more, right? Those two DJs together, that's just a dream come true. They dominated everything during the early noughties, and I remember listening to many of their sets on my old computer, or even on cassettes and CDs, and once I had the opportunity to hear them live, it was like everything just fell into place. I think I saw Roog at Innercity and/or Mysteryland, and Erick E obviously at Sensation, and somewhere else, but I can't remember where. Yes, alcoholic beverages have ruined a lot of good memories of the teenage years.... As I'm riding this Millennium House vibe, this freebie was a nice gesture by both Erick E and Roog. There's plenty for you all to check out on this Soundcloud channel, but my focus is on this Housequake album. I've seen the name before, but never this album, and trust me when I say that I would have spotted this in my local record store, as I've spent many hours in there. Maybe it was sold out too damn quick, or never made its way to the South of Limburg? Ready for a trip down memory lane, back to when House was super sexy, and when I danced many nights to these tunes? Kortezman - My Love Tommy Davis - Night Train (Fudge Next Station Mix) w Erick E - Ain't No Stopping Us Full Intention feat Thea Austin - Soul Power (Kurd Maverick Remix) Sidney Samson - Dirty Laundry (Hardsoul's Stripped Down Edit) Supermode - Tell Me Why (Raul Rincon Remix) Scott Wozniak - Talk Dirty To Me (Roog & Greg's Breakdown Edit) w/ Erick E - Boogie Down Darkmountaingroup - Lose Control w/ Fairmont - Gazebo (Sebastien Leger Remix) DJ Jeroenski & Mike Laveaux - Black Rain Martijn Ten Velden & Lucien Foort - Bassification w/ Funkerman feat I-Fan - The One Olav Basoski - Outback w/ Bodyrox - Yeah Yeah (D.Ramirez Remix) Chocolate Puma - Always And Forever w/ Hardsoul - Deep Inside w/ Hardsoul feat Berget Lewis - Song For Unity Klement Bonelli feat Dragonfly - Nocturnal (Nick & Danny Remix) Fred Pellichero - Snake w/ Italian Stallion - Nasty Danny P - Feel The Vibes After listening to this mix multiple times in a row, I am in love with it. So many memories are brought back by just listening to this mix. And I remember hearing these tunes. Well, most of them, not all of them. Originally this came with a DVD, which I've not looked for yet. But if you did buy this album, what was on the DVD? Anything interesting? Anything worth sharing here? Roog and Erick E are a golden duo. They did a few editions of this Housequake series, going up to 2010, and then it stopped. They did not come with a DVD, only the first one did, but yeah, there's more out there, if you want to hear more. I really liked both DJs, and hearing sets in 2024 with tunes from the golden years, it makes me extremely happy. I cannot pick a favourite, as they are all amazing anthems. A good trip down memory lane. If this mix doesn't regenerate forgotten memories, nothing will. This is a mix with solid anthems from around 2006, and they are rock! This is, to me, the pinnacle of House music. I lost interest in House a few years later, but whenever I think of 2006, it still brings back amazing memories. Happy memories. I wish I'd purchased this album, if it only ever appeared in my local CD store, which it didn't (or was sold out too damn quick). But at least I got to see each DJ perform, and you cannot beat that experience! - Kevin Energy -Live DJ Set at Stomp 13/01/24 Basement 45 Bristol
Where were you on the 13th of January of this year? Were you by any chance in Bristol, at Marc Smith's ''Official Massive Birthday Stomp'', the twelfth edition? If you haven't, where were you then? The line-up was insane, with obviously Kevin Energy, Marc Smith (would be weird if he wasn't at his own birthday stomp!), Klubfiller, Miss Special K, Scorpio, Ed E.T, and many more. This event has been on my radar for many years, but I always forget to buy tickets. One day I might go. Kevin Energy went, and recorded his set. That's not special, but he actually recorded his set, which you can see on YouTube! From behind the decks to the crowd, you can see it all. You can see the Freeform master at work. And even though he was an opening/warming up act, he got the crowd dancing. And during his set he played a few of the finest older classics, and a few new anthems. And according to his YouTube comment, a new album will come out in 2024! I saw a video of him teasing a song with Afterburner a few weeks ago, and the song itself got me hyped up. That's the kind of music I really like. He teased us, and I was gutted to not hear it for the first time live! What a banger it is, but don't you worry: it is in his set. He couldn't do the set without it. A bit of the old Kevin and the new Kevin. I do like myself a bit of the Nu Energy sound, and whatever he's got in store for us in the future. But which records did he play? Geck-O - Balearic Bootlegs Breeze & Styles - Sonic (Kevin Energy Remix) Kevin Energy - Take Me Up The Retreat - Balearic Bootlegs Kevin Energy & Jasmine Knight - Universal Energy Kevin Energy, Desire & Jasmine Knight - Power Over Me S3RL - T T Techno Kevin Energy & Desire - Transform Kevin Energy & Jasmine Knight - Let You Know Kevin Energy & Afterburner - Illusion Of Dreams Kevin Energy & Desire - Imagination Kevin Energy & Paul Hardcore - Hearts On Fire Arkitech & Sharkey - Quadraphonics Kevin Energy & Desire - Inter-Dimensional S3RL - Dealer Sharkey, Kevin Energy & K Complex - Anna (Cube::Hard Remix) Uberdruck - White Rampant & Petruccio - Rhythm (Darwin Remix) Gammer - 33mm Kevin Energy & Ephexis - Reality Control Don't get me wrong, I do like the 'old' Kevin Energy sound, but his new stuff is what I'm here for. The Nu Energy sound from back in the day is dope as fuck, and paved the way for new artists to enter the scene, and it made me fall in love with Freeform, but there's hope for an even better future for Freeform. More of this new stuff please, mr. Energy! The tracks selected were great, and you can see the crowd loving it. I wish I was there, Bristol ain't that far away from where I live, and I could have gone. I'm a lazy shit, that's why. The set is cool, and to see Kevin actually behind the decks, doing his thing, is cool. What isn't the greatest, and that's just my personal opinion, is the MC. Over the years I've lost interest in MCs. To me they don't work. They can sometimes take over a brilliant set. Kevin's set would have been great without the MC. But that's just me. You might have liked it. The best track in this set is the one with Afterburner. Come on, that has to be the next big hit in clubs all over the UK. This is one that gets me hyped up the most. Come on, this is a big anthem! A big set. Can't wait for what's in store for us in 2024. More Kevin Energy, please! - Mulgrew - Everything Starts With An 'E' [Songs About Drugs] (2022)
Don't do drugs. If you do, do it safely. But yeah, drugs can be dangerous. But we also have to underline the fact that drugs were a huge part in the dance industry, when it emerged in Europe during the late 80s, early 90s. I grew up in the Netherlands, where there's a different kind of policy surrounding drugs (which still baffles many of my friends), but I never went to a rave, high on anything. I was mostly drunk, which is also not a good thing. But to me, I can listen to rave music without drugs, and still enjoy it highly. So when I found this mix by Mulgrew, which focusses solely on songs with drug references, I jumped on it, sober, and enjoyed it. A trip down memory lane, when there were plenty of songs focussed around XTC or any other drug items. My drugs of preference? Paracetamol, or Ibuprofen. I do understand the importance of drugs in music. Hell, they even used it extensively during the hippy period. It's not just a 90s thing. But I'm cool without it. As said, I only prefer paracetamol or ibuprofen, after a night out. Just to make sure my head doesn't explode the second I wake up. I am getting older, that's for sure. So when I do listen to songs with references to drugs, I don't think ''oh, I should use drugs'', or remember when I did use it, I just listen to the beat, the rhythm, the vocals.. basically the whole package. And Mulgrew, who made this mix, has got an interesting selection. An hour long mix with some well known anthems, and some forgotten anthems. You don't need to be a raver to imagine that many ravers did listen to these anthems in warehouses all over the world, or in fields, bunkers, or in highway tunnels. And yes, they could have had a pill here or there. I am not here to judge. I embrace the rave scene fully, including the rise of it (which was helped by certain substances). But I want you to realise that I always listen to mixes sober, and review them sober. Maybe I should be on a substance when writing these reviews, but I don't think they would make any sense. What songs were used in this mix? And did you use any of these? Ron & Nancy - Doing Drugs Speech Primal Scream - Don't Fight It, Feel It (Acapella) Dino Lenny - Cocaine (Free Base) Project XYZ - It's Just An Ecstasy (Original Mix) Control - Dance With Me [I'm Your Ecstasy] (Original Mix) Chimo Bayo - Asi Me Gusta A Mi [Esta Si, Esta No] (Original Mix) E-Zee Posse - Everything Begins With An 'E' (Original Mix) The Shamen - Ebeneezer Goode (South Of Detroit Vocal & Original) Shaft - Roobarb & Custard (Dr. Trip & Bob Bolts Mix) Skin Up - Blockbuster (Gold Run Mix) Joey Beltram - Energy Flash (Original Mix) Shades Of Rhythm - Extacy (Original Mix) Mediteria - Is E.T. On X.T.C.? (Commander Mix) Moby - Next Is The E (I Feel It) Big Hard Hats - On E (J.T. Mix) The Disco Biscuits - Who Wants A Disco Biscuit? (Original Mix) John OO Fleming - Where Did You Get Those Pills? (Pretty Pretty Mix) Family Foundation - 10 Snide E (Original Mix) Hackney Hardcore - Caught With A Spliff (We Are Drug Squad Officers Mix) Ratpack - Searchin' For My Rizla (Original Mix) These are truly memorable anthems from an era long forgotten. Well, not fully forgotten, but they are tunes you don't hear on the radio. I do wonder why.. I do recognise most of these records. Some were a bit too obscure, or were versions of originals that I had never heard of. For example, 'Ebeneezer Goode'. I know the one they play on the radio, not the version in this mix. And also I've never heard Ron & Nancy's speech. Interesting. It's a funny mix, with some big anthems that would have been played everywhere during the 90s. When I was younger, I was in love with 'Asi Me Gusta'. I think it appeared on a Turn Up The Bass album. But the most rave sounding anthem in this mix has to be 'Energy Flash'. A track that still does a lot of damage in clubs and events all over the world. Don't do drugs. Stay safe. And if you do, please have it tested beforehand. If you want something that could replace the drugs, let this mix be your guide. Just close your eyes and pretend it's the 90s. No drugs required for this mix though, the DJ already supplied us with drugs related anthems! - LJ Feeley Soulful House Mix (2016)
This website has got a lot of reviews. So far, on the current website, we've got roughly 1100 reviews, but I've done more in the past. Most of them are focussed around Hardcore, be it Dutch, British, Happy or hard. But what most people don't know, is that I listen to everything. And when I say everything, I do mean everything. That doesn't mean I do appreciate everything, but I can listen to everything, including House music. House was actually the first genre I fell in love with, way before I fell in love with Hardcore. To this day I can enjoy House music, and guess what? Someone informed me that they have got a mix on Mixcloud, and it would be a good one to check out! Mixcloud? What's that? I don't visit Mixcloud that often, as the layout annoys me, and the tracklist bit is kind of frustrating. I'm more of a Soundcloud guy. But that's just my personal preference. That individual that informed me, normally shares his UK Hardcore/Happy Hardcore mixes, but today we are listening to something different. Soulful House music. Boy, I do love myself a bit of House music, especially when it's extremely soulful. That just makes it much better, doesn't it? But because I listen to so much, I do miss out on a lot of excellent tunes/mixes. But there's just so much to explore. A plethora of mixes passes the review on a daily basis, but not many get a review. And some are just too damn good, I keep on listening to them, multiple days in a row. So I do apologise for missing out on a lot, but you need to keep reminding me. Protocol did just that. Sorry, I meant LJ Feeley. His mix was uploaded 8 years ago. It's an older mix, but it still sound very nice. Maybe we could see some new mixes, mr Protocol a.k.a. LJ Feeley? We need 'new' music. Until then, let's focus on this very soulful House mix. You'll love it. Jazz-N-Groove - Keep Givin' Me Love (Original Jazz -N-Groove Mix) Restless Soul feat Shea Soul - Tricks (Main Vocal) Monkey Brothers feat Shaun Escoffery - Losin' My Head (Peak Time Mix) Key To Life feat Kathleen Murphy - Find Our Way (Muthafunkaz Found A Vocal Mix) DJ Gomi feat Lou Balo & Yasmeen - Glad I Found You (Troublemen Remix) Next Phase - Piece Of Mind (Basement Boys Vocal Mix) Dennis Ferrer feat KT Brooks - How Do I Let Go Ronland Clark & Agev Munsen - The Thing About Deep (DJ Spen Remix) DJ Vivona & Joi Cardwell - Return To Love (A Directors Cut Treatment) Lou Rawls - You'll Never Find (Mark Zalewski & Konrad Carelli Club Mix) Action Jackson - Off Dat Wall (DJ Spen Re Edit) Frankie Knuckles presents Satoshi Tomiie - Tears I feel bad for saying it, but I only recognise Frankie Knuckles' name on this list. My God, how long have I been outside of the scene? I feel bad about me not knowing any of these names. Bloody hell. But one thing I need to express: how I feel about House. It reminds me of going abroad, on a holiday. We always go to nice and quiet cocktail bars, to chill, and they always play this kind of music. And it makes me feel extremely chilled, very mellow. House is one of those genres that offends no one, and can be listened to at any given time. This mix has got a lot of soul. And I like it. I had a hard week at work, and this mix is soothing enough to get me into the weekend. I feel relaxed, all my worries are now gone. I just want to go abroad now and enjoy a nice cocktail and some snazzy peanuts. It's an old mix, but it is still cool as funk. It's a bit different to what I'm used to hearing from mr Protocol, but it's very funky. I've got nothing negative to mention. This mix is cool. Highly recommendable. Finest song? Thought I'd never say it, but ''Off Dat Wall'. A very cool MJ song, cool remix! - Jean Live @ Sensation White, Amsterdam Arena 06-07-2002
The year is 2002, and I'm in the Amsterdam Arena, alongside thousands of others, dressed in white, celebrating this event called Sensation. And I wasn't on my own, I went with a few colleagues from work, who were into Trance, and they told me about this event, and how awesome it was. I obviously had to go, as the price of the tickets were reasonable (€55). But as we were from the most Southern part of Limburg, we had a long journey ahead of us, on a train. But once we got there, we were all OK. Well, nearly, as I purchased a ticket through someone online, and didn't know if the ticket would actually work. I saw people in front of me being rejected due to them having a fake ticket. Shitting myself, I made my way to the entrance, but mine was valid, and I was blessed to walk into this holy arena. It was a very memorable night. The venue itself looked amazing, and they tried to make it look like you entered a church. A very big church, to be fair. And you had thousands of people dressed in white, which made it even more special. But thousands of people in white don't do anything without an act performing on a stage. And that's where the magic happened. The line up was a short one, which was good for us. Not too many DJs. DJs could actually play a long time (which seems a bit weird in the current climate). So the line-up was as follows: Armin van Buuren, Erick E, Jean, Johan Gielen, and Marcello. And somewhere in between you had the ''megamix'' section, where there would be no-one on stage, but only a megamix playing through the speakers. That megamix is still one of my most favourite mixes of all time, and that concept was used in many Sensations after the 2002 edition (including the Black Editions). I don't remember the whole night, only bits of it. The reason? Well, I spent a lot of it on alcoholic beverages, and merchandise (but that didn't get me drunk to be fair). At least €150 has gone down my neck, and I don't know how I survived. But I do remember the acts. Armin's opening was hugely disappointing, Marcello was dope, and so was Erick E, and Johan Gielen was cool too. But what about DJ Jean? Well... that's a whole different story. Here's the list of all the songs by Jean. This was live broadcasted on Dutch radio, so you might hear some bits and bobs from the radio during the recording. Moloko - Indigo (Robbie Riviera Tribal Mix)  w/ Darude - Feel The Beat ID - ID Reeloop - Fuckin' Society (Remix) Versus - Renewed Energy Rui Da Silva - Touch Me (Remix) Shaved - My House Nebula - Orbital Park (DJ Gollum vs DJ Yanny Remix) Arome - Hands Up (DJ Scot Project Remix) Sioux - Pho (Cosmic Gate Remix) Reeloop - Fuckin' Society (Acapella) Echoman - Substance w/ DJs Of The Planet - Superdrum Monza - Turn To Dust (So Get Up) DJ Rob Fabrie - Make Some Noise Marco V - Simulated (Marco Vision Remix) Question Mark - The Birds Nylon - If You Love Me (Remix) Acer - The Mixmaster Marco V - Certainly Tranquillity Base - Razorfish (Above & Beyond Progressive Mix) Fascination - Club Night In London Dirt Devils - The Drill Mauro Picotto - Ultimahora Ibiza MBG meets Dr Feel-X - Take A Walk On The House Side ID - ID ID - I Dance You DJ Albert vs Precision - Say Yes (Katana Remix) Dave 202 & Phil Green - At The End There are some amazing records in this set. Truly amazing anthems from back in the good ol' days. If you were around in 2002, you would hear most of these songs everywhere, and I still find them extremely dope. Not dated, not old sounding, just dope anthems that have stood the test of time. During the late 90s I became a fan of DJ Jean, and always wanted to hear him perform. I bought many CDs, especially his IT CDs, as they were a tad different (just look them up on Discogs, and look at the covers). The music was great too. But his Sensation set, that was far less adventurous and I know for a fact that after the first few tunes we all decided to leave our spot at the front and go to the bar or toilet. Jean's set did not impress, unfortunately, and that was disappointing, to say the least. There are some great songs in here, but the mixing of it all was a tad meh. It was boring. Nothing special. And it could have had potential to be such a great set. And it even had one of my favourite anthems of all time, which is 'The Drill' by Dirt Devils. But it wasn't. It was a forgettable set. I genuinely hoped it would be the best set of the night, but that had to be given to Erick E and Marcello. You can listen to it, and experience what I experienced in 2002. There are other sets online too. Don't start with Armin's, as the first song is so horrendous, it makes you want to throw your listening device in the bin. As good as the songs are, the mix is bland, and that wasn't what I would expect from Jean, with the legacy he created during the 90s. All in all, the night would still become memorable. But not this set. Well, maybe in a way it did, but in a not so good way. I do miss the good ol' days though. The tunes were much better. - Ruffex Records (2024)
It has not been that long ago since I last reviewed a mix done by J.O.E , but someone reposted this one, which I had to jump on immediately. Yes, the previous mix I heard was all about present day Gabber music made to sound ''oldschool'', but for this mix we definitely go back in time. And I do like myself a bit of the oldschool, especially when it's linked to one of the finest producers of all time, Ruffneck. He created this label back in 1995 and it only ran for 2 years, but in those two years they released some amazing anthems! That Ruffneck logo was an amazing thing to look at, as you knew you were going to be in for a treat. Many of their songs appeared on many Hardcore compilations, which I've owned many of. I've spent a fortune during the 90s, and do I regret it? No. Yes, I might have been able to purchase a house, a car or other fancy items, but I would have missed awesome music. You would feel the same, right? J.O.E. has done the same as he always does: gets a lot of records, and makes a splendid mix with them. All the songs were released on Ruffex Records, and if you are a true Hardcore fanatic, you will know them all. Still not 100% sure if it is Ruffneck behind the alias or not, it's always an interesting find. I love that 90s sound so much, if I could, I would marry it. But two things: 1) that's not possible, and 2) my wife would be slightly upset. The mix is as good as any other done by J.O.E., but the songs in this one are more special to me than ever before. This sound was so unique, so fresh, and so Ruffneck-ish. And I loved Ruffneck. Was I a Ruffneck though? Nah, still too soft to be considered one, but a huge fan nonetheless. Ectomorph - Heartbeat Myrmidon - Condemned Paradox - Ruffa Lunalotic - Happyhouse ... ??? Myztic - Dangerous Battle Nitrogen - Bad Bwoy Paradox - What Is Wisdom Nitrogen - Words Of God Syphax - At War Lunalotic - I Can't Hear You Myztic - To Da Rhythm Paradox - My DJ... Come on, a true Hardcore/Gabber fan from the 90s will certainly know them all. And we all still feel the power within each track, right? Do we still feel part of the Artcore movement? Is that even still a thing? As we said in the 90s, Ruffneck did rule the Artcore scene. I can only give credit to J.O.E. for making yet another amazing mix. It's astonishing how most of his mixes seem to appeal to me, and I always find the time to listen to those mixes and write reviews about them. Only love and appreciation, as always. I have love for each and every record. But there are so many to choose from. To me, personally, Ruffex Records was the label to go to. It had so many great records, and as said before, I bought many compilations that contained these songs. Hell, some even appeared on Thunderdome albums, like one of my favourite songs in this mix: ''Answer Me''. One of the most amazing songs from probably the best Thunderdome CD ever. J.O.E. did it again, and I thank him for it. 20s Gabber is dope, don't get me wrong. But 90s Hardcore/Gabber/Artcore is way better. Sorry not sorry. DJ: J.O.E. - Top 50: Evolution Of Hardcore (2007)
It is Sunday, and I will only be doing one review. Why one, you might ask? Well, as the mix is 2 hours and 19 minutes long, it's longer than my usual mixes I listen to, and it might just be enough for you all to listen to today. It's a mix dedicated to Hardcore music from around 2007, which is now 17 years ago (can you believe it?). I only stumbled upon this by accident, and I'm happy that I did so, as I'm in awe of music released during the noughties, and this mix shows why the year 2007 was a fantastic year for Hardcore music in general. It also shows the difference in current day Hardcore and what was made back in the day. I know there will always be an evolution happening, but the current Hardcore could not sound any more different. My personal believe is that the year 2007 was a very important year, as it had some of the finest Hardcore anthems of all time, and once you look at the tracklist, you will know immediately what I mean by stating that fact. The mix was made by Broken Balance and uploaded back in 2023, and the tracklist is a thing of beauty. So many tracks I do love, and adore. And I think that the year 2007 was one of those years I spent the most on buying compilations. If it's not the number one, it is in the top three years of years I spent the most money on music. Why? Because Hardcore proved itself to be a powerful genre of music, and it was super well developed. Quality over quantity, but that goes out of the window, as we are about to listen to 50 songs in a 2 hour and 19 minute long mix. Quantity remains though, the songs are just fucking epic. Promo - Running Against The Rules (D-Passion Remix) Tommyknocker - Death By Stereo Meccano Twins - Domin-Hated Prowler - World In Chaos Tommyknocker & Sunbeam - Twisted World (The Viper Mashup Mix) Masters Of Ceremony - Bottoms Up Meccano Twins - Tendrils Of Agony Art Of Fighters - Redemption Nosferatu - Outshine Any Competition G-Town Madness & The Viper - Come As One (Project Hardcore 2007 Anthem) Tha Playah - Blast Tha Crowd Kasparov - Lobster Logic Weapon X - Back To Life Art Of Fighters - Do Or Die DJ D - Gloria Ophidian & Ruffneck - So Many Sacrifices Nosferatu - The Flames Of Your Righteous Anger Placid K - Are You Aware Dione - Freak Show Kasparov & MC Raw - We Will Dominate Art Of Fighters - Vulcano Action The Wishmaster & Impulse Factory - To The Ground Tommyknocker - Hurricane DNME - 1D (Back Off) Bulldozer Project - Arise (Na-Goyah Remix) Predator - Demon Pit Kasparov - Intrusion Men Of Steel - The Future Is Ours (Panic & Tha Playah Remix) Dione - Never Lost His Hardcore Mad Dog - Crime After Crime Amnesys - Slash Com Too Fast For Mellow - We Gonna Get This Place (Dione Remix) Re-Style - Take Ya Down Tommyknocker - Learn From The Pain Re-Style - Co-Kane Amnesys - My Motherfuckin' Name Promo - The Tablet Nosferatu - System_5601 Mad Dog & Noize Suppressor - Fire Lenny Dee - The Dreamer (Promo Remix) Outblast & Predator & MC Ruffian - The Hunt (Dominator 2007 Anthem) The Stunned Guys - Raise Cain (Masters Of Hardcore 2007 Anthem) Predator & Angerfist - Silent Notes 3 Steps Ahead - Drop It (Tommyknocker & The Stunned Guys Remix) Neophyte - Back In My Brain Again Tha Playah - I Call Tha Shots Lenny Dee & Randy & The Sickest Squad - Boomshakalaka Dione - Highway 666 (SRB Remix) Rotterdam Termination Source - Poing (Lekkah Doorgahstuitert Door Partyraiser) Delta 9 - No More Regrets (Unexist Remix) This is certainly an amazing looking tracklist. A throwback to a fantastic year. It might have been the peak of Millennium Hardcore, but that's a personal decision for you to make. What are your views on 2007 Hardcore? Is it the best, or not, and why? And do you actually like Millennium Hardcore? Broken Balance made a very cool mix, with a lot of memorable anthems from a fantastic and epic year. So many great names are in this mix, and the list is insane to look at. It immediately took me back 17 years, when I was still young, fresh, and when I had no grey hair. Gosh, that's a long time ago. Would I stay in the present day and listen to the current sound emanating out of the scene, or go back to 2007? I think you know the answer to that. 2007 all the way, baby! There are too many great anthems to mention, but the one that stands out the most, is one of the best remixes of an all time classic ever made. 'Drop It' by 3 Steps Ahead was already a legendary track, but Tommyknocker & The Stunned Guys made it even better than the original. And it remained true to the original, showing homage to the legend that is 3 Steps Ahead. A solid mix to listen to. Toward the end it might go a bit silly, and it might contain the records I appreciated the least, but it is still 2+ hours of Hardcore classics. Wouldn't want to miss that opportunity, going back in time and acknowledge the awesome sound that we listened to back then! I miss the good ol' days. - UK HARDCORE THE CLASSICS (2021)
Final review of today before I'm heading out. And it might be one you would be interested in. Do you like UK Hardcore, and do you like the classic anthems? Well, I've got a mix for you to listen to. It's made by Sik Individual, or as his Soundcloud channel is called SIK INDIVIDUAL. The mix was uploaded three years ago, but I only recently discovered it, as it was reposted by someone. It already had some positive feedback from the listeners, so it's only right for me to have a look at this, and see if it's a) got the classics that I want to hear, and b) if it's any good. The cover art looks different, you don't see that very often. It's quirky, and not sure what the one-eyed freak has got to do with UK Hardcore, but it's cool. It stands out, that's for sure. It makes you look, But it's the words that are in the title that got my attention. 'UK Hardcore The Classics'. That, to me, is more interesting. I want to see if they are truly the classics, as I am a sucker for some UK Hardcore anthems from the golden era. Looking at the tracklist it does show promise. A lot of records from the big artists, and it's certainly a good selection by SIK INDIVIDUAL. Don't know why his name is in all CAPS, but again, it grabs your attention. His selection looks good, so let's see if you agree or disagree. If you disagree, please leave this site and don't come back. Just a request. Oh shit, did I just spoil the tracklist before actually typing the bloody thing? Darren Styles - Flashlight Darren Styles vs Ultrabeat - Paradise & Dreams Re-Con vs Eye Opener - Open God's Eyes Stunt - I'll Be There (Squad-E Remix) Re-Con & Chris Unknown - Please Tell Me Darren Styles - Pacific Sun Hixxy & Re-Con - Power Of Love Lunin8 - Tetris Al Storm - Nightlife Billy Daniel Bunter, CLSM & Junior - Cry Your Tears (Al Storm Remix) Al Storm & Euphony - All I Wanna Do (Darren Styles Remix) System F - Cry (Squad-E Remix) Alex K - Long Long Way From Home (Squad-E Remix) The selection is great, but I had to tweak the tracklist a bit, as it wasn't as full as it should have been. You'll see the difference from SIK INDIVIDUAL's page to this list above. I hope I got the names correct, please correct me if I'm wrong. But besides the anomalies in the list, the actual songs selected are really great. These were the records I listened to during the period when I discovered UK Hardcore and started buying every single compilation on the market. All these artists paved the way for me to be a true UK Hardcore fan. It was tricky to pick a favourite, and I could not select one. I picked two amazing records: ''All I Wanna Do'' and 'Paradise & Dreams''. They are both equally amazing to hear, many years after their initial release. They still have the power to demolish speakers, and cause havoc on the dancefloor. Play these two, and crowds will loose their freaking minds! The only record I don't find a classic, is 'Tetris'. It's an OK song, but this would never be in my top 100 (or even top 1000). I don't consider it a classic, sorry. There are other songs out there that are better than that track. Sorry. A nice mix though. Recording is a bit meh, but you can still hear the songs well. And that's all you could ask for. - Breakbeat Revolution 1 - Mixed By Faz (2011)
I have been on a CLSM buzz the last couple of days. I have been on Soundcloud most of my life, and recently I re-discovered the Next Generation Podcast playlist, and one of my most favourite guest mixes is the mix done by CLSM, a.k.a. Jon Doe. His mix was (and still is) such a dope mix, I have had it on repeat for hours on end. I needed to hear more CLSM stuff, and I remembered that there was a CD series called 'Breakbeat Revolution', which were mixed CDs, from which the first two were mixed by Faz. Not sure who mixed the third instalment, but yeah, that mix series. I just thought of it, and wanted to see if there's one somewhere online. I had already reviewed the second mix, now it's time for the first instalment. The first one was released 13 years ago, back in 2011, and the second and third one were back in 2015. And the Next Generation Podcast episode was released in 2011, so what I am trying to say, is that I needed to hear Breakbeat music from around 2011, which had some fantastic releases around that time. CLSM/Jon Doe and his label had some amazing tunes released on them, by some truly inspiring producers. If you would have asked me, back in the early 10s, I would have mentioned CLSM as one of my favourite Breakbeat Hardcore DJ/producer. He is still one of my favourite, and it's a shame he's so underrated. Even the label, CLSM, should get more recognition for what it has achieved. The quality of the music is insane, truly inspiring, and very dancefloor friendly. Imagine going to an event and hearing tunes that were released on CLSM (the label), that's just Heavenly, right? Faz made this mix back in the day, and it was received very well! On Discogs it has an average rating of 5 out of 5, but it's not what Discogs has to say, it's all about TCD and my views. Is it as good as the reviews on Discogs? CLSM feat Stefan B - Drifting Away Nu Foundation - Liberation (Reese Mix) Virus & Milo - Not The Only CLSM - Free Your Mind Cube::Hard - Micro N2 CLSM feat Bello B - Roof On Fire (Something Inside) Abeyance, Shauny C & Gammer - Have You Ever (Cube::Hard Remix) Top Cat - Walking On The Moon CLSM feat Lisa Abbott - Timebomb (Cube::Hard Remix) Buzzmasta - Shoreline (Orbit1 Remix) Virus & Milo - Searching CLSM feat Bello B - Transmission To Mars CLSM vs Vinyl Junkie - Jump & Twist (Remix) Cube::Hard - Dark & Light (Setting Sun) Entity - Fallout CLSM - Sensory Vision (Part II) This is a very good looking list, and the tracks take me back the golden years of Breakbeat Hardcore. Well, I would say the UK Hardcore scene in general, it was amazing back in 2011. The music was great, and you had a plethora of excellent producers. I miss those amazing years, they were a blessing in disguise. There's so many amazing names in this list, and it makes me wonder what ever happened to them. Those names were everywhere, and now they aren't. It's a shame, as they are excellent producers though. A great selection of records, and very beautifully mixed together by Faz. His mix is interesting, nearly as good as Jon Doe's mix for NGR podcast. It's close second. There are so many epic anthems in here, and most might go for 'Timebomb' as their favourite, but mine is 'Shoreline'. Big anthem, highly underrated. Maybe this review might give it the credits it should get, for being awesome! And it should be played more! Would you agree, or disagree? A solid mix. Can't believe it's nearly 13 years old, it still sound extremely fresh, and absolutely NOT outdated. Boy, do I miss the Breakbeat sound from the 10s! I am sad now. I am getting too old too damn quick! - The Core Of Madness EP167 - Promo Tribute Hardcore Mix (2024)
Last year I found a mix by Sapher, who made this tribute mix for DJ Mad Dog, who had recently done a lot of damage to the Hardcore scene (damage in the best way possible: demolish speakers). I liked the mix, as the tracks were dope as fuck, and now, for the 167th edition of the Core Of Madness, he decided to make a DJ Promo tribute mix. And it's not the standard Promo mix we know, with all the extremely well known (and much loved) tracks from the 90s and the Millennium years, but the more obscure, less played Promo stuff. That got my attention immediately. I love DJ Promo. I grew up listening to this legend, this masterful producer. He has made my youth more special. Not just mine, but thousands of other ravers all over the world. Promo has played a huge part in our lives, and still remains a very active player in the Hardcore scene. Promo does what he does best, and that is to entertain the masses. And we all know the well known anthems he created/co-created. He's a living legend, that's for sure But I do like his darker, edgier, and out-of-the-box music too. He ventured into areas no one dared before, and sometimes it worked, and sometimes it didn't. You might like it or you don't, that's all down to you. But at least we can acknowledge that Promo does what he wants to do, he doesn't not follow trends, or conform to the standard, what sells records. He does what his heart pleases. So this mix is filled with the less known and forgotten about anthems. Which ones? Well, these: Promo feat DJ Bike - No Commercial Sound Promo - Someone To Hate Lenny Dee & Promo - I Called You Promo & MC Drokz - Thunderdome Anthem 2007 The Wishmaster & Promo - Silence Surrounds Me Promo - Rising Out Of The Dark The Wishmaster & Promo - Crazy As Fuck Promo - Tunnel Vision Promo - Tester Of The Hard Shit Promo - So Sick Promo - Unbreakable Promo - Spineless Promo - Eradicate Promo feat Minckz - True Tonez D-Passion feat Promo - Deepest Fear Tha Playah & Promo - Down Below (DJ Mix) Broken Minds feat Promo - Northlands Promo & Catscan - De Pure Vorm Promo - Paid My Dues Promo feat Ophidian & Myrean - Born To Break Promo - The Memory Dither & Promo - Strictly Hardcore Promo - Everywhere I Go Promo - Crunch Time D-Passion & Promo - Last Track Of The Night Promo - Vergif This is a list of records you do not see together that often. And that got my attention. And there are plenty of under appreciated records in this mix, which should get more recognition. Sapher has done an interesting job, and it a nice ode to the legendary producer and DJ Promo. The mix is an hour long, and it's got some big anthems in here. The best one that stands out for me, is 'True Tonez'. That's a beast mode record. Whenever I hear 'this is true tonez', I instantly become happier due to the fact that this record is one of my favourite anthems of all time by Promo. Not my number one, that's one of his Millennium songs, which isn't in this mix. The mix concept is interesting and the majority of records are really amazing. Not a fan of the records where there are Dutch lyrics, funnily enough. Those are the lesser Promo records. The mix itself is OK, and it's not flawless. It is still enjoyable, and if you are into Promo, you will love this mix. It's nice and compact, what else could you ask for? - Hardcore Love (Part Two) (2023)
Happy Valentine's Day everyone! Today is the most romantic day of the year, and yet the weather is atrocious, and I'm all alone at home (wife is in the office). It doesn't feel like Valentine's Day, but we will try to remain happy, cheerful, and in love. Because no matter where my wife is, I still love her to bits. And this review is dedicated to her, even though she really doesn't like the music I listen to, which is in this mix. She doesn't understand my obsession with it, but she still loves me, unconditionally, with or without my love for Hardcore music. I hope you all have a fantastic day. But whatever it is you are doing today, let me introduce you to this mix, made by one of my favourite DJs of all time, Selectabwoy. This mix was released 4 months ago, so it's not a true Valentine's Day mix, but it has a pink heart on the image, and it has the word 'LOVE' written in it, like a little love heart. That makes it perfect for a day like today. I've got only love and appreciation for the DJ, even though we've never met or spoken to each other, but his mixes always appeal to me, and he speaks to me through his mixes. And he keeps on providing us with new mixes on a nearly weekly basis! How does he find the time to make these perfect mixes? He has made so many mixes, which you can all find on Soundcloud, but they are too many: if I were to only review his mixes, I would be reviewing until I'm a 100 years old! He's got so many, but they are good mixes though, and the reviews will become very boring. The mix is as tight as you want it to be. It's a good hour-ish session of the finest Hardcore anthems. With some well known and obscure anthems, it's a rollercoaster ride, that's for sure. N.R.G. - I Need Your Love (Original Mix) Project One - Can't Take The Heartbreak Open Skies - Deep In Your Eyes Jonny L - Hurt You So (Alright) Ruff Rider - You And Me Out Of Orda - Plimpy Ed Addiction - You Don't Know My Heart (Remix) Tango - You & Me (Remix) Mastersafe - Tarzan Meets Jane Jumpin Jack Frost - Pornography Spectral - Touch Somebody (Cerebral Mix) Spectral - Close Your Eyes Studio 2 - Dirty Games Manix - Try To Love Me (Remix) Fruit & Veg - Love Of The Bongos Urban Shakedown - Bass Speaker Origin Unknown - Losing U (Mix 1) Rainbow Country - It's U Run Tings - Back Again (Austin Remix) Bad Influence - Never Too Much (Remix) Natural Instinct - Pressure Nookie - Give A Little Love Citadel Of Kaos - It's Not Over The Prodigy - Your Love The mix is really good, but leave that to Selectabwoy: he always delivers excellence. The mix is roughly an hour long, but you go through these tracks like a knife goes through butter. Quick, easy, and it spreads easily. Unless you've got butter that lied to you. In that case, this mix might not be your cup of tea. How did I just compare this mix to butter? Looking at the list, only a handful of songs I know, or artists but the majority are a bit obscure, underground. And even though I don't know, I still like the songs massively. Especially when 'Dirty Games' hits. It hits very hard, and I loose myself completely. A great selection. It's not your standard 'Valentine's Day' mix, that's for sure, but it can be highly enjoyable if you and your partner like this kind of music. If you two do, enjoy this mix. Selectabwoy has put a lot of effort in this mix, and it shows. It's an excellent mix, but I wasn't expecting anything else. He's a boss, a definite boss! This mix slaps. And I freaking LOVE it. - DNB Classics 60 Minute Mix (2024)
Sunday has arrived, and hopefully you had a nice weekend so far. The weather might have been a tad shite, but at least it's not snowing. But it's Sunday, the most 'relaxing' day of the week, and the majority of people are just chilling, doing nothing, or little chores. Nothing major. We need our batteries to be recharged again, for the upcoming working week. And have I got something special for you all: a very nice Drum and Bass mix, with only classics in them. Isn't that something you want to listen to? If the answer is no, please leave this page right now. The mix was uploaded onto 10Inchpress' Soundcloud channel, and when I noticed it contained the words 'Drum & Bass' and 'Classics', that's when I jumped straight on it. And it did come with a tracklist, which is always an added bonus. I am unfamiliar with the DJ, but if you do know a bit more, please leave a comment below! The mix is just short of an hour, but it's long enough for us to hear a lot of amazing classics that are still love, adored, and played at many raves all over the world. I grew up listening to this, and it still makes me happy, hearing these timeless classics. It brings me joy and happiness, and it also gives me a lot of energy. These songs are powerful as fuck. The selection is really great. Got to give credit to 10Inchpress for this list. It's awesome! Dillinja - The Angels Fell Doc Scott - The Unofficial Ghost Adam F - Metropolis (Remix) Splash - Babylon Dillinja - In The Grind Vromm - Bees (BKey Remix) Souljah - Fade 2 Black D-Bridge - True Romance VIP Break - Ringing Ears Commix - Talk To Frank (Break Remix) Spirit - VIP Dial Marcus Intalex - Nebulus Dillinja - Hard Noize (Break Remix) Leon Switch & Kryptic Minds - Hide The Tears (Remix) Dom & Roland - Industry Lenzman feat Kevin King - Starz (LSB Remix) D Kay & Lee - Tuning VIP Digital - Deadline Asylum - Da Base II Dark Calibre feat Singing Fats - Drop It Down The songs selected all take me back in time. They all take me back to my youth, and I can still remember how I felt, the first time I heard these songs. I still have the same feeling to this day! I am in awe with all these songs, and still find them as powerful as the day I discovered them. I've heard these songs a million times, but I'm still not getting bored of them. They are literally timeless classics, and no matter how often you hear them, or how you are feeling, they will always make you feel good, especially when my favourite record of this mix hits. When 'True Romance VIP' hits, it hits HARD. Whoever is behind this mix, they have made a wicked mix. 59 minutes long, 20 records. It's filth from the start to the end, but the good kind of filth. A solid mix, with only classics. They weren't lying when they stated it was a DnB mix with classics. The only lie was that it's 60 minutes, but it was only 59 minutes. But 60 sounds better than 59 minutes. All in all a wonderful mix. A very powerful trip down memory lane, with some hard hitting anthems. Go and check it out! And you can also download this bad boy! - Carlstar - Modern Happy Hardcore Mix (2024)
Earlier in the week I was listening to a lot of oldschool Happy Hardcore mixes, with songs from the 90s. And there were a few UK Hardcore mixes too I discovered, all with songs from the 90s or a tad later. But now it's time for me to let you listen to some new, modern Happy Hardcore/UK Hardcore. Some really new and exciting, if you are into that kind of music. I'm one of those people, I'll listen to anything, and when this cropped up on my timeline, I had to give it a listen. And now, here's the review! I do listen to literally everything, and there are styles out there I should pay more attention to. The mix you are about to listen to, contains records I should have listened to before. The scene is still alive and kicking, and has got excellent songs to listen to. The tracks selected for this mix are by well known names, and a few unknowns, but they are upcoming artists, you will see their names more in the future. Carlstar, a name I've not seen or heard before (I think), has made this mix. It's got modern Happy Hardcore anthems, and that alone sounds very interesting. And once you had a look at the tracklist, you will immediately press play, and you'll thank me after, for making you aware of this mix. It's only 53 minutes long, and I know you've got an hour spare today, so why not give this a go? Jack In Box & Impulse Riders - Gonna Get Ya Impulse Riders - Is It Me DBL & 3Star - Roll The Drums Impulse Riders - Fireball Diakronik - Lose Control Darwin & Jack In Box - Heart In A Spin (BK Edition Mix) Entity - Show U Love (BK Mix) Beefy - Do Whatever Jack In Box & Impulse Riders - Dubspace NP Source - A Heartbeat Away DT & Jack In Box - Pass Me A Dub (Breakbeat Mix) Time Rhythm - New Jam (Impulse Riders Mix) DJ Elmo - Hear What I'm Saying Brisk vs 3Star & Projekt - Atomic (Mix 2) Impulse Riders & Darwin - Feel The Rave Darwin vs 3Star - C U Move Darwin & Skinny - Twisty Bone Breaker DBL - Here To Invade 3Star & Darwin vs Projekt - Died In Your Arms Brisk & Darwin vs 3Star - I'm Burning Time Rhythm & Jack In Box - Let U Go (Impulse Riders Remix) Skinny & Darwin - Like A Boulder Brisk & Darwin vs 3Star - You Can Dance Darwin x Jack In Box - Back 2 The Club There are so much potential in this mix, these tracks should get all the recognition they deserve, as they are all amazing records! And it's nice to see certain names still making 'modern' Happy Hardcore, names like Darwin, Skinny, Brisk, Jack In Box, etc. Carlstar's selection is really cool, and if you go to his Soundcloud channel, it will show you links, showing you where you can buy these songs from. And he's done a great job with this mix. It's banger after banger. Certified club bangers! Well, not really club bangers, more rave bangers! I thoroughly enjoyed this mix. Especially when 'C U Move' by Darwin & 3Star hits. Those vocals just do it all for me. That record just made me loose myself completely. But to be fair, throughout this mix it is hit after hit. It's been an interesting listen, and I'm happy to have discovered it. Go and check this mix out, and give this modern Happy Hardcore a go. I am, so should you! The only negative thing? The size of the download. 536 MB! That's a lot. But you do get a lot though! - Keep on Jumpin (2022)
The weekend has arrived, and it's a bit horrible outside. It's grey, dark, and raining. Not pleasant. Temperature wise it's OK, it's 8 degrees here, which is OK for me. Much better than the minus temperatures we had a few weeks ago. But we are not there yet: the temperature needs to go up and up, and we need to be able to wear shorts, t-shirts, and if flip flops are your thing, flip flops. And at the same time have the sun surrounding us, embracing us, and at the same time we should be sipping a cocktail. We basically need the Summer. It is only February, we are a few months away, but let's get in the zone. Let's get excited for the Summer of 2024! As I'm talking about the Summer, the sun is coming out through the clouds! Oh, that must be a sign! So let's stay happy and cheerful that the Summer is around the corner, and let's focus on the next mix you are about to listen to. It's a mix by Edele Andaya, who has made multiple appearances on this site. And this time is a House focussed mix, with some of the biggest anthems of ALL time in them. You'll see the list and immediately you will have memories. Memories to when you first heard them, or memories linked to the songs. Nice memories. Or even bad memories. But they will only happen because these songs are timeless classics, and will get everything thinking about how good they were, when they were released. If you have bad memories, I do apologise. Maybe this mix isn't for you. It's a good looking list of songs. A brilliant selection of well known dancefloor anthems. Bizarre Inc. - I'm Gonna Get You (Original Flavour Mix) Todd Terry feat Martha Wash & Jocelyn Brown - Keep On Jumping Jean Claude Ades - Someday Armand van Helden - My My My M.A.N.D.Y. vs Bookashade - Body Language (Tocadisco Remix) Morty Kante - Yeke Yeke (Hardfloor Remix) Mark Knight & Funkagenda - Man With The Red Face Joey Negro - Make A Move On Me Axwell, Ingrosso & Angello - Leave The World Behind Freemasons feat Bailey Tzuke - Uninvited Octave One - Black Water The mix starts with an all time classic, one you will hear everywhere on Earth! It's such a House classic, and it sets the tone for the rest of the mix. It's very mellow and very melodic and that's just the right combination. Edele's selection is great. I thoroughly enjoyed them all, and they brought back some memories I completely forgotten about. But all of these records were played back in the day multiple times in a row, for days on end. It's a great selection, and when one of the biggest House songs ever gets played, I sit there and smile for an hour. That song has got the most memories, and it was one of those songs you could not escape from. It was such a global hit for Armand van Helden, and is still one of the best songs ever. If you want a House mix to dominate your weekend, this is the right one for you! A solid mix to get us ready for next week, and the Summer ahead of us... Another mix for me to listen to. And this time I know nothing about the artist, which goes by the name Phydra, and I only found out this mix existed, due to someone reposting it. It was someone I followed, but I cannot remember who it was. But whoever it might have been, they thought this mix would be interesting for me and others to listen to. I looked at it, if it came with a tracklist (which it did, kind of), and quickly gave it a listen, just to see if it was something I would be interested in. And from the first second I got hooked. I know literally nothing, but there were a few interesting things to notice, even before I pressed play. The image used, as you can see above this review, is kind of scary. It also has as tag 'Bass Music', which immediately gets my attention. And it got reposted, so it must be good. So without any knowledge, I dove into this mix, and I'm happy that I did find it, saved it, and am listening to it right now. This shit is hard, and I'm not the only one who thinks that way! I've just checked, and the comments are all positive. The listeners seem to love this mix, and Phydra has done a wicked job in composing this mix. I don't know if it's for an upcoming album, or just some upcoming releases, what to expect in 2024? But yeah, it's Bass music, and I like that a lot. What is music if it doesn't have a filthy bass? Dubstep, Trap, Drum & Bass, and much more can be heard throughout this mix. And those are words I really like. Now the interesting bit, the tracklist. It is a tracklist but a special one. Never seen this before, but hey ho, it's a list. Phydra - ID Phydra - ID Phydra - ID Phydra x POP THA TRUNK - ID Phydra - ID Phydra x peaceful Jeff - ID Phydra - ID Phydra x Blanck - ID Phydra - ID Phydra - ID Phydra - ID Phydra - ID Phydra - ID Phydra x Buhlu - ID Phydra x Thew - ID Phydra - ID Phydra x Kid Koma - ID Phydra - ID Phydra x Evolushawn - ID Phydra - ID Phydra - ID Phydra - ID Phydra - ID Phydra x peaceful Jeff - ID Phydra - ID Phydra x POP THA TRUNK - ID Phydra x POP THA TRUNK - ID Phydra x POP THA TRUNK - ID Phydra - ID Phydra - ID You weren't ready for a tracklist like this one, right? Neither was I. So it's literally a blank tracklist. ID-less records. But at least we know who Phydra worked with. Well, I don't know them either, so it's like I'm looking at a piece of art: I never know what I'm looking at. So this mix. It's hard and hell. Dark and edgy. And I like it! This has got the perfect flow, and you feel in a different place you shouldn't even be in. Phydra's mix, with whatever tracks in it, is the perfect mix to get to the end of the working week. This might be a tad mellow, but it still blows up your speakers, if needs must. Again, I know nothing about the artist. But what he/she/they have done, is make a remarkable mix. The songs are dope, chilled, and very cool to listen to, WFH. And I'm guessing it will sound ace when you are driving in your car, and you've got this on full blast. Go check it out! - Classic Trance 50 Volume 3 (2022)
It is Thursday, and it's Trance day. Not an official day, to be fair, but still. To me it's all about Trance, and the mix you are about to listen to, might take over your whole day! And I'm not kidding. It's 5 hours and 14 minutes long! That's a whole lot to take in, but it's not the only mix in this mix series which is that long: they are all extremely long. For me, normally, an hour mix is perfect. If within that hour everything is there, then I'm happy. 5 hours long, that's a long sitting session, but as I'm WFH, I've got a few hours spare. So, let the listening session commence. Trance is amazing. I'm riding this Trance wave now, and I'm feeling everything Trance related. I'm so happy now, hearing all these Trance mixes, and Johnny Davison's mix fits right in. The length might be a bit longer than expected, but it's worth it. And the thing about this mix is, that there are quite a lot of unknowns in here, or songs I've completely forgotten about. Or versions that I've not seen or heard before. So it's a mix that contains everything you want to hear, if you are as open minded as I am. The rain is coming down outside, it is cold and miserable, so I'm sitting at home with the heating all the way up, and listening to this mix. And it's glorious. Johnny Davison has selected 50 amazing records, and time does fly by before you know it. You might think that 5 hours and a bit is too damn long, but I would disagree (only on this occasion). Trance should only be played at full length, no stupid radio edits or short edits. Full extended versions, please. Now the big reveal! What can you expect? Leama - Requiem For A Dream (Leama's Dream Mix) Kosmas Epsilon - Innocent Thoughts (Original Mix) Portishead - Roads (Sultan & Tonedepth Remix) Andy Hunter - Amazing (Fades Bionic Sanctuary Remix) Perry O'Neil - Kubik (Intro Mix) Questia - Nexus Asia (Subsphere Remix) Midtone - Pearl (Original Mix) Dreas & Bjorn feat Havannah - Havannah (Lancton Remix) Synergy - Hello Strings (Original Mix) Estuera - Flow (Original Mix) Endre - I Kill For You (Probspot Remix) Lightscape - Inner Warmth (Original Mix) Lolo - Extended Horizon (Original Mix) Koris vs Djule - Belvedere (Mesh Remix) Salt Lake - Rendezvous (Original Mix) Kalafut & Fygle - Novocaine (Mark Otten Remix) Solid Globe - Sahara (Original Mix) LNG - Inner City (Original Mix) Sonorous - Protonic (Original Mix) David Forbes - Questions (Must Be Asked) (Kyau vs Albert Remix) Jacob & Mendez - Deception (Benicio Remix) Outback - Minds In Motion (Draft to Design Mix) Ultra - The Dawn (Original Mix) Peter Dafnou - From Here To Eternity (Original Mix) AR52 - Enigma (Original Mix) Randy Katana - In Silence (Txitxarro Mix) L.S.G. - Netherworld (Oliver Prime Remix) Eye Wall - Bad Deal (DJ Remy & Roland K Remix) Junkie XL - Red Pill, Blue Pill (Original Mix) Arrakis - Aira Force (Lemon8 Remix) Stephen J. I don't copy-paste but physically type a tracklist, so it's been a very long and arduous task. But I've managed, which is a positive. And I've finished listening to this mix too. All 5 hours and a few additional minutes! 50 tracks. I feel like I've achieved something! It feels like I need to get an award for achieving such a fantastic achievement. But this isn't the only mix out there. I've already listened to the first and second instalment, but there are plenty more out there! In total, I think, 11 mixes. So if they are 5+ hours long, that's 55+ hours of Trance music. Sweet Lord, a long way to go for me. I have done it, and I'm glad that I've listened to it. It is yet another wonderful mix with some stunning anthems. And the finest, for me, is 'In Silence', remixed by Txitcarro, and the track is by Randy Katana. A fantastic track, love it. Still a crowd pleaser, in my honest opinion! What can I say that I haven't said before, in this or previous reviews? It's a big pill to swallow, but if you've got 5+ hours of doing nothing, let this mix be your guide. Or if you want some motivational music to listen to at work, let this be the one. And check out the other mixes, they are (probably) solid too (haven't listened to them all yet). - Happy Hardcore Mix Vol.1 (2020)
We started with UK Hardcore/Happy Hardcore, then talked about Trance from the 90s, and now we are back. Yes, it's another Happy Hardcore mix. And this time it's a mixture of everything, not just UK Hardcore. And as mentioned many times before, I am a Happy Hardcore fanatic, and always jump on each mix I find. Today's mix is an oldie, 4 years old, and got reposted only a few days ago, but because of that repost did I find this mix. So thank you, to whoever reposted it! So, I don't know anything about the artist behind this mix. So let's jump straight into the mix itself, and the songs selected. Darren Deddley made this mix 4 years ago, and it's got some cracking anthems in here. And it's songs like these ones when I think of Happy Hardcore and the 90s. This is the perfect blend, tracks from all over the world in one mix. It is happy, and that's all that matters. Happy Hardcore is such an important style, and it's loved by many, and equally hated by as many, or more. I'm a lover of the style, and it still brings a smile on my face. Granted, most of the songs in this mix are British, but they are the anthems that crossed borders and got played everywhere, all over the world. It was a phenomena that died too soon. UK Hardcore continued, and it is still present to this day. But the proper 90s Happy Hardcore, that sound has stayed in the 90s. Unfortunately though, as it deserves to be alive and kicking. Marusha - Raveland (Wicked Mix) A Sense Of Summer - On Top (Hixxy Remix) Go Mental - Died In Your Arms Tonight (Rhythm Station Mix) Sy & DJ Demo - Sensation DJ DNA - Reality (Justin Time Remix) Highlife - Is This Happiness Helix - N.D.E. DJ Slam - Influence DJ Poosie - Gotta Get Down Jimmy J & Cru-L-T - DJ's In Full Effect Billy Daniel Bunter & JDS - Let It Lift You (Billy Bunter & D-Zyne Mix) Luna-C - Piano Obsession Eruption feat Katherine Woods - Let The Music JDS - Higher Lover (Exclusive Slipmatt Mix) DJ Paul Elstak - Luv U More (DJ Paul's Forze Mix) Tiny Tot - Discoland (Giorgio Prezioso Remix) Nakatomi - Children Of The Night (XXL Mix) Hixxy & MC Sharkey - Toytown (In Yer Face Mix) A funny selection of records, I have to agree. Starting with Marusha, which is always quirky, and ending with a song I personally don't like. But the DJ has picked a good selection, it has to be said. Funny that the first mix I reviewed today was a Bonkers 1 appreciation mix, and some of these songs have made their way into this mix too.I chose 'Let The Music' as my favourite of the Bonkers appreciation mix, but this time I have another song as my favourite. Can you guess which one? It will always be the one record I have loved for YEARS. 'Higher Love' is my all time favourite Happy Hardcore anthem. Nothing, and I mean nothing can beat it. It's a classic, and one of Slipmatt's finest remixes ever made. I found this mix very refreshing, and the songs are great. Didn't like 'Toytown', but I have never liked it. I know it's an all time rave classic, but I can live without it. A solid mix. More of these Happy Hardcore mixes, please! Pretty please! - Classic 90's Trance (2024)
From 90s UK Hardcore/Happy Hardcore, to some 90s Trance music. Today we are in the 90s, it seems, and I'm glad. I'm getting older, and am at this stage in my life now, where I remember the good ol' days, and refer them as the best decade of my life. The 90s were influential to me, and have made me who I am. And whenever I see a mix on Soundcloud, I immediately have to jump on it, and save it, to listen to it at a later stage. Today's that day, and I am now listening to this mix by Dj Ste Mc Gee. I do not know anything about this DJ, which I'm guessing is an MC too, judging his name on Soundcloud? I simply came across this mix, clicked on it, and saw it had a tracklist. That ticked all the right boxes, therefore I saved it for later. I'm listening to it now, and I'm pleased to have found this mix. The selection is great, and it will bring back memories. I wasn't 100% into Trance in the 90s, but I still appreciated it a lot. 90s Trance is still amazing, and it holds the most memorable anthems of all time. To me, my favourite decade is the noughties, but it's closely followed by the 90s. But that's just a personal preference though. But don't get me wrong, I still hugely adore 90s Trance, and a half of those awesome records made their way into this mix. It's a good selection, one that will bring a smile and tear at the same time. A smile because the songs are ace, and a tear, because time has flown by too damn quick. Cafe Del Mar - Energy 52 (Original Club Mix) Ariel - A9 (Original Mix) Divine Inspiration - The Way (Svenson & Gielen Vocal Remix) Vincent De Moor - Flowtation (Original Mix) Marc et Claude - La (Moonman's Flashover Mix) The Thrillseekers - Synaesthesia (En-Motion Remix) Three Drives - Greece 2000 (Sander van Dien Mix) Art Of Trance - Madagascar (Ferry Corsten Remix - Remastered 2009) System F - Out Of The Blue Ian van Dahl - Will I (Extended Club Mix) BBE - Seven Days And One Week (Original Club Mix) Solar Stone - Seven Cities (Armin van Buuren Mix) This is a very good looking list. You've seen them all before, and heard them all before. Maybe even in this same layout. But as we speak, this mix in particular, we are listening to Dj Ste Mc Gee's mix, and none other than his mix. The mix is very nice, and the hour and a bit will flow by before you know it. The records played are all good. No messing about, just straight into the classics from the first one, which could be potentially the biggest anthem of them all? If it isn't, it's probably the most played record of all time? Solid start, and the tracks keep on coming, and you feel happier as time moves on. Best record? 'Madagascar'. Big, big anthem. Loved it back in the day, still love it today. - Syntax Error - Bonkers 1 Tribute (2024)
Everyone knows how much I love UK Hardcore and Happy Hardcore, it's not a hidden secret. I am a Happy Hardcore fanatic since 1994/1995, and am an avid listener to the 90s sound to this day. Not so much the UK side of Happy Hardcore though, but over the years (90s), a lot of the songs did make an appearance on European compilations. But here, in the UK, they had their own, very successful series called Bonkers. It became essential listening music for those that wanted to hear the coolest Hardcore anthems. It died back in the early 00s, but it still has a massive legacy to uphold, and fans are still talking/discussing the old albums. The CD collection is well known, and even I purchased a few of them over the years. But never had the opportunity to have the whole collection. At one stage, due to their demand (and me living in the Netherlands), I had to get them imported from Australia, which made it a very expensive thing to do. A lot of money was spent, but with most things, you either collect them all, or you start, and never finish. The latter, that was me. To be fair, I wasn't a huge fan of the early albums. Some albums did work for me, but it wasn't always my thing. I always seem to dislike one of the discs, because of the songs selected, or the vibe wasn't there. But trust me, I know the importance of this collection, hence why I am talking about it today. Syntax Error made this tribute mix, commemorating the first Bonkers CD ever, which was released back in 1996. That's nearly 30 years ago! That's insane. And even though it's an oldie, the tracks don't sound old. Well, most of them still sound fresh, one or two might sound a bit dated. But Syntax Error made this mix, because the album was the first Happy Hardcore album he had ever bought. Memories, that's nice. But are the tracks nice? Alas Smith & Sharkey - Truth Force & Styles - All Systems Go Hixxy - Thumper Hopscotch - Midnight Express Dougal & Eruption - Party Time DJ Ham - Is Anybody Out There A Sense Of Summer - On Top (Hixxy Remix) Seb - Rainbow Island (Sharkey Remix) Sy & Sharkey - Feel The Heat Druid & Sharkey - Bonkers Anthem Eruption - Let The Music The Vampire - Teknostorm (Sharkey Remix) DJ Brisk - Airhead (SMD Remix) Druid & Sharkey - Pumpin Hixxy & Bananaman - Forever Dr Who - Love Of My Life If you are a raver that lived throughout the 90s, this tracklist must make you feel happier, and excited. To be fair though, these songs were heard everywhere, and have appeared on not just Bonkers, but on thousands of other compilations. And they are played at events to this day. That's how much they are loved. I am still in love with 90s Happy Hardcore, and I find it amazing that people keep it alive. Syntax Error's mix contains the right amount of records, and most will appreciate his selection. To me, the selection is great, and there's one track in here, I can remember hearing for the first time, back in the 90s, on a Happy Hardcore compilation. That song is high on my all time favourite Happy Hardcore list. It's 'Let The Music' by Eruption. Still an all time classic. The mix is great. It takes me back to the 90s, and that's always a positive thing. But my question to you is, what's your favourite record of this mix? Anything you like? Or is this not your cup of tea? Too old, too happy, too boring? It's a nice mix, and if you like the early Happy Hardcore sound, this is a mix you should check out!! - Brooksie - We 'R' Acid - November 2023
Back in 2022 I discovered a set by someone called Brooksie, and this Brooksie only recently uploaded a new set, which was re-recorded, as during the night it went a bit haywire. But even since my first introduction into the world of Brooksie, I haven't learned a single thing. Still not 100% sure who's behind the name. Well, there is a short introduction on Brooksie's Soundcloud channel, and if you are interested, please read it for me, and give me a shorter version of it. In the meantime, I will be listening to this set. The previous set I reviewed was Brooksie playing at Boomtown back in 2022, and this set you are about to listen to, was recorded last November, in Bristol, at We 'R' Acid. I didn't knew there was a big love for Acid Techno in Bristol? There's probably a lot that I don't know of, so instead of making myself look like a fool, let's focus on the set and the records used during this one hour long set. Well, I can be short and sweet about it: I don' recognise most names on the list, nor have I ever heard any of these songs before. Acid Techno is a style that I should listen to, whenever I get the opportunity, but it never seems to happen. The only artist on Soundcloud that promotes this kind of music (on my timeline), is Brooksie. I do like it, don't get me wrong, but I know fuck all about it. Shall we dive straight into the tracklist, as you might recognise the names of the artists? Goncalo M & Pete Mek - Helicopter (Oldschool Mix) Zero Dayz - The Undecided Acid Ray - Bust This (Original Mix) Chris Liberator & Sterling Moss - We're On The Outside Vlado - Dirty Sound (Original Mix) Benji303 & Manarchy - Back The Beat (Original Mix) Sterling Moss & No Comment! - Overload Dynamic Intervention - Kickback Sterling Moss & Jack Wax - Supersonic Bass Secret Hero & Rats On Acid - Smokey's Revenge Michael Wenz - Not Driving Tonight (Main Mix) Latex Zebra & Chris Coles - Never Saw It Coming (Original Mix) Gatty - Pressure (6hear_Slug Remix) The tracklist did nothing for me, but the music did. Again, I'm not an expert, but I do love this Acid Techno sound. The only name I recognised, was Chris Liberator. And that's it. But it doesn't matter if I know or don't know the artists, it's all about the songs. And the songs are great. It starts off with an excellent song, and continues throughout the hour long set. Brooksie keeps us on our toes, dancing, moving our bodies. And the songs are really acidic. A throwback to the golden years. The flow is as smooth as you want it to be, and when 'Smokey's Revenge' kicks in, that's when the magic happens. What a big track, love it. Guessing it is some kind of reference to a film or TV show? Whatever it refers to, its an awesome record. The hour flew by, and I'm happy to have listened to this re-recorded set. It's a blinding set, well put together by Brooksie. If this was an exact copy of Brooksie's set, it would have been a wicked one to experience. Flawless set, worth your time. Trust me. If you like Acid and you like Techno, this is the mix to check out! - ID&T Trance Vol. 1 (2001, 2xCD)
The year is 2001, and things have changed for me personally. This bloke (me) saw the demise of Hardcore, and needed something to replace it full time. It was difficult and in the end it never happened, but I found a different kind of music that I could embrace, love, and cherish. That kind of music was Trance, and I absorbed it like a bloody sponge! And as the 90s was a decade where most of the albums I bought were released by ID&T, I continued that trend, as they made the decision to 'abandon' the Hardcore scene, and move toward something more lucrative? Trance wasn't something new, it had already been around for a while. But the Millennium years, that's when things changed. I have listened to the early Trance anthems from back in they day, and they have never embraced me as much as the Millennium Trance anthems did. I think I joined it at the right time, when the music was emotional at its peak. It is Trance that we look back onto, and think about constantly. This is the era when the biggest anthems ever made, were created. Did I personally abandon the Hardcore scene? No, never. But as it went a bit more underground, I needed a replacement style, a genre that could take me to places I've never been before. Trance fit the bill for me, and it's only from that moment that I have fallen in love with Trance, and it stuck with me for the rest of my life. Early this morning, after waking up, I was in dire need of some Trance anthems. I did ask Alexa, and she played a playlist with some big anthems, which led me to this compilation. Back in the day, it was one of my most cherished albums in my possession, and has been destroyed due to the amount of plays. I was a huge ID&T fan, and nearly everything they released, I purchased. They released 7 albums under this umbrella name, but faded into obscurity back in 2004. What a shame though. CD 1 DJ Tiesto - Flight 643 Sylver - Turn The Tide (Airscape Remix) System F feat Marc Almond - Soul On Soul Out Of Grace - Obscura DJ Quicksilver - Ameno Sister Bliss feat John Martin - Deliver Me Coast 2 Coast feat Discovery - Home (DJ Tiesto Remix) Digital Level - Basic Factory Riva - Stringer The Thrillseekers feat Sheryl Deane - Synaesthesia (Fly Away) (Paul van Dyk Remix) Comonova - Wishful Thinking Ultra - Free ATB - Let U Go (Wippenberg Remix) Mo'Hawk - Previous Years Barthezz - On The Move (DuMonde Remix) CD 2 Mauro Picotto - Like This Like That (Megavoices Claxxix Mix) Rank 1 feat Shanokee - Such Is Life (Marco V Remix) Mario Piu a.ka. DJ Arabesque - The Vision Collusion - Conspiracy The Moon - Sushi Nino Lopez Project - Experience DuMonde - Never Look Back (DJ Tiesto Remix) Lazy Jones - Let Me Tell You Push - Strange World Square - Nova (4 Strings Remix) Shade On Grey - Moving On (DJ Astrid Mix) Cosmic People - Time To Hold On (Pants & Corset Remix) Clint Fabian - Panorama Cherrymoon Trax - Needle Destruction Stormtraxx - My Acid Dream Yes, I am going to sound like an old man now, but they don't make 'em like they used to. These were the golden days of Trance music. And yes, I was a fan of Tiesto. When that first song on the first disc hits, it hits hard. Back in the day you couldn't go anywhere without this song being played over and over. It dominated the charts and the clubs/events all over the world. And yes, even I purchased it on CD-single. It was a wide variety of anthems on these two discs. From your euphoric Trance to Hard Trance to Progressive Trance to whatever Trance you were looking for.. it was on here. The diversity I liked, but that doesn't mean every song was a hit in my books. 80% of the songs are, and then there are some songs on here, maybe space fillers? They are OK, but not great, and if they are forgotten about, that wouldn't be a bad thing. Each disc had its own big anthem, and for me it is as follows: CD 1 has the biggest underrated track of all time, by Out Of Grace, and it's called 'Obscura'. The second disc has got obviously one of the biggest, if not the biggest, Trance anthem of ALL time: 'Strange World' by Push. It was a great compilation, not the best out there, but good enough to enjoy. This edition and I think volume 2 were the only ones I purchased. Sony then came along and presented these top 100 albums for the same price or cheaper, and I went along with those, as you get more bang for your bucks. Yes, I'm cheap, but remember, I am Dutch. A trip down memory lane, this certainly was. Trance from around 2001 can not be beaten by the present day Trance. Sorry, not sorry. This compilation is a great glimpse on what I listened to back in the day, but it's not the best of them all. - Frank-E & Mars-L - OUWE STIJL IS BOTERGEIL | MELKWEG (26-01-2024)
Only a few days ago this event took place, and my timeline was filled with images of one of the acts in the Netherlands, M-Project. And now sets have appeared on my Soundcloud timeline. Unfortunately M-Project's set did not come with a tracklist, but the one that did, was a set by Frank-E & Mars-L. And I have seen their names before, but never put 2 and 2 together. A quick look on Discogs and now I know: they are the two names behind Deepack! And I genuinely didn't know that! I am sitting here, amazed. They initially started making Hardcore/Gabber, and then went on to become Deepack. That's insane, right? I do come across as a bit of a silly bugger, right? People probably assume I know everything, but clearly I do not. But instead of pointing out my flaws (which there are plenty of), let's focus on this set. It's an early Hardcore set, with not only their own records, but a wide variety of records by others too. The big guns were played, and you'll know every single one of them, by just looking at the tracklist. They were the big songs during the 90s, and are still loved to this day! As a young teenager during the 90s, I fell in love with Hardcore, and have listened to as much songs as possible, and to be reminded on how awesome the 90s were, that brings a smile on my face. Ouwe Stijl Is Botergeil is truly an inspirational event, one that is on my bucket list. I really need to relive the 90s again, because it was truly botergeil. But now, let's focus on the tracks played by Frank-E & Mars-L. TNT - Kiss The Ground Neophyte & The Stunned Guys - Kick This Motherfucker Wayward - Hardcore Hijacked Cixx - To The Bass Masoko Solo - Pessa Pessa Buzz Fuzz - Frequencies DJ Sim - Cartoons In Progress Frank-E & Mars-L - Spliffs 'N Niffs Jappo & Lancinhouse - Exlaxl Cyclopede - Bad Motherfucker Knightvision - Who Is It DJ Isaac - Bad Dreams Bodylotion - Make You Dance Darrien Kelly & Scott Brown - Geleihoofd Frank-E & Mars-L - Bust The Beat Frank-E & Mars-L - Tha Devil Made Us! Frank-E & Mars-L - Control The Universe Frank-E & Mars-L - Dream On Necromancers - Don't Look Back Frank-E & Mars-L - Aeon Frank-E & Mars-L - Hit The Deck Inferno Bros. - Slaves To The Rave (Neophyte Remix) Toni Salmonelli - Hey 3 Steps Ahead - Drop It Obviously the tracks that weren't made by Frank-E & Mars-L are well known, and you hear them everywhere (which is a good thing, don't get wrong). But it's the obscure stuff by Frank-E & Mars-L I like a lot. You don't hear or see them that often, which is a pity. They are anthems too! I'll just say it before I forget and finish the review: I prefer Frank-E & Mars-L over Deepack. Yes, Deepack was great for the Hardstyle scene, but I am a gabber 24/7, since 1993, and their Hardcore songs were much better than anything released as Deepack. Sorry though. But the Hardcore side wins. The mix itself is great. Don't know why the volume goes up and down, especially at the beginning. Is it maybe because there's an MC and they cut his/her bit out? I was a bit concerned at the beginning, but it didn't happen that often. The event looked brilliant, and the line-up was awesome. And this set shows me why I should have gone, or go in the future. Lovely set, but not 100% perfect. But still, highly enjoyable, especially their stuff. I do prefer their songs, but credit for opening their set with one of the dopest songs ever made, TNT's 'Kiss The Ground'. What an anthem. The set was full of them, but to open with that one, credit! A nice set, worth checking out. And there are more on Soundcloud, so check out their Soundcloud channel! You can thank me later.... - UK Hardcore Classics! (2024)
Around the 24th of August last year I discovered a Soundcloud channel, run by someone called Dexx. The first mix was an appreciation mix, dedicated to Dougal & Gammer, the following mix (I found) was just a UK Hardcore mix, and then the next one was also an appreciation mix, but this time for the legendary label Next Generation Records. Now he's back with a new mix, and it's filled with some of the biggest classic anthems in UK Hardcore history. Not all of them, otherwise the mix would be hours or even days long. I started listening to UK Hardcore when it was at its peak, and I cannot imagine living my life as a 20 or 30 years old geezer without hearing these anthems come at me through my speakers. I do adore the UK Hardcore scene, and really appreciate the Millennium sound a lot. UK Hardcore is the reason why I started blogging many moons ago, as there weren't many Dutchmen listening to it, and I wanted it to get a wider audience. I failed, but at least I gave it a shot. It is so underrated outside of the UK, but within the UK it's big. Maybe not as big as it once one, but hopefully one day it will return to the size it once was. Maybe if people find these mixes and fall in love 'again'? Who knows. But I do prefer the 2000 sound a lot, and Dexx's mix fits perfectly today. I need a bit of nostalgic anthems coming at me. I need to feel happy again, and a few years younger. Let me show you which tracks Dexx has selected: Gammer - A New Feeling (Original Mix) Brisk & Vagabond - Hit The Deck (Ham Mix) Scott Brown - Lost Generation (Nu Foundation Remix) E-Logik & DNA - Kick Your Legs (Impact Remix) DJ Kurt - Infexious Darren Styles - Come Running Nu Foundation - Taking My Time Scott Brown - Make The Beat Drop (Original Mix) Insight feat Emily Reed - Digital Lover (Sy & Unknown Remix) Dougal & Mickey Skeedale - Really Love You (D&G Remix) Kelly Llorenna - Heart Of Gold (Hixxy Remix) Scott Brown - Neckbreaker (Plus System Unreleased Mix) Gammer - Bust Phobic - Maybe I am a lover of the Millennium sound, and when I spot a mix that contains records from that era, I immediately get happier. And I haven't even pressed play yet. That's the power of UK Hardcore. And before I listen to it, I even share it with my few Dutch friend on Partyflock. There's a very small community of UK Hardcore lovers, and I always share the love. Even when a mix doesn't get a review/blog post, it still gets shared. This mix I could not talk about. It's got a few exciting records in here that I grew up with. And a few I've not heard in a few decades, not kidding! But it's a solid selection, and as a true UK Hardcore fan, you should give this a go. Bring back the glory days, and bring back this distinctive sound! As older people would say, ''they don't make 'em like they used to''. That's true. Only love and appreciation for this mix. The tracks are solid, and a reminder how awesome it sounded. And the tracks are true party anthems. When 'Come Running' comes on at any rave, people will loose their minds and sing along. It's a party anthem. But not my favourite of this mix. That honour goes to 'Hit The Deck'. Brilliant and underrated track, brilliantly remixed by Ham. A solid mix, yet again, by Dexx. Can't wait for the next UK Hardcore mix to appear! - Classic dance anthems to take you on a journey back in time. Vinyl mix (2021)
It is Monday. Where has the weekend gone to? It's flown by too damn quickly. We need something to motivate us. Nothing too hard, or nothing too soft. We need something heavenly, and Trance is just the right kind of music to elevate us. It's going to be a very long week, so let's get cracking with some nice Trance anthems from the forgotten era. And it ain't a short mix: a nearly 2 hour long mix with 20 records. This mix will certainly get us through the day, what is left of it. Maybe it wil get us through the week, who knows? The channel on Soundcloud is called Vinyl Trance Classics Radio, but it hasn't posted much. Only 2 mixes in a 3 year timespan. There's also not much information on the site, so let's focus instead on the music selected for this mix. They are the dance anthems from our generation. To be fair, you'll know most of them anyway, and they have appeared on many compilations during the Millennium years. And I've bought many compilations over the years, and have heard them all. But there are still a few in here I've not heard before. And the good thing is, is that they don't sound dated at all. They are indeed classic anthems. This mix has had some good feedback, and it could be the right mix for you today, if you are looking for something danceable. Which anthems are in this mix? Aurora - Ordinary World Lost Witness - 7 Colours Frankie Goes To Hollywood - The Power Of Love William Orbit - Barber's Adagio For Strings Lost Witness - Red Sun Rising DJ Sakin & Friends - Protect Your Mind (Braveheart) Rank 1 - Airwaves Alena - Turn It Around Above & Beyond - Far From In Love Lost Witness - Happiness Happening Lange - Follow Me Thrillseekers - Synaesthesia (Fly Away) 4 Strings - Daytime Dee Dee - Forever Balearic Bill - Destination Sunshine Skip Raiders - Another Day Ian van Dahl - Will I Southside Spinners - Luvstruck Plummet - Damaged Planet Perfecto - Bullet In The Gun It's a good selection, all vinyl records, and that's always an added bonus. But yeah, I know all of these anthems, I grew up listening to them. Well, not all of them, most of them. And hearing them again makes me happy. To be fair, you do hear most of them on the radio, but they are always silly short edits, and I dislike those. You cannot shorten a classic like that. The mix is OK. There are some mixing errors, but they are minute. The anthems are solid, most of them. But I have to address the elephant in the room. The third song in this mix, I really dislike this song. It has been killed by the amount of plays on a daily basis. You hear that song everywhere, and it's getting on my nerves. It's not my favourite, nor will it ever be! But that's the only 'bad' song in this mix. The best song is 'Damaged'. Big anthem, it destroyed many dancefloors I've stood on. Big anthem. A very pleasant mix, one you should be checking out. I enjoyed myself a lot, and it took me on a trip down memory lane! DJ: Vinyl Trance Classics Radio Genre/Style: Trance, Dance Mix Info: Classic dance anthems to take you on a journey back in time. - Gabber of the 20’s Vol.5 (2024)
It is Saturday, and those that are getting ready to go out, I might have something for you to listen to. Something that will give you the right amount of energy. J.O.E., the man behind many awesome mixes, uploaded a brand spanking new mix roughly 2 weeks ago, and it's doing some serious damage on Soundcloud. But it's all for a good reason: it's gabber from the 20s. Not a new concept, but a concept I truly adore, and much appreciate. One that should deserve more credit, and should get more people behind it. Gabber isn't a new thing. Hell, it's been around for a while now. I even called myself a gabber during the 90s and early 2000nd. The sound that emerged during the 90s was widely loved by many, but died an unfortunate death around 1999-2000. But it's now brought back into our existence by new and upcoming artists who keep the early sound alive. And DJs such as J.O.E. spreading the love for the sound. Well, I do my bit: I review every 20s Gabber mix I can find (one that comes with a tracklist of course). I do find it amazing that this 90s sound is still kept alive. The market for it seems to increase bit by bit, and more 'new' names appear in mixes I listen to. A few years ago it was only a handful of artist, but the style just erupted, and got a new cult following. And looking at the plays of J.O.E.'s latest mix, a lot of people seem to find their way to his mixes, and really appreciate this. I am one of those people. I even find the artwork on the image above a tad quirky, and it reminds me of the awful covers of gabber CDs in the 90s (especially ones released in the Benelux). A true throwback. But which artists are currently doing damage in the 'new' Gabber scene? Jones & Stephenson - The First Rebirth (SCOOBIX Remix) Noizadikt - Ether Sonority The Bloody Deamon - The First Destination Lysa & Italian Terrorist - Don't Care X4phantom - Epic Overdrive Lysa & Italian Terrorist - Still Real Kick & Kollekt feat Crazy Gabber - Attention Lysa & Italian Terrorist - Junkie JEDYNY - Jupiter IDK - Gabber Dream X4phantom - Zer09 FUZZY BRAIN - Dos Tres Pardonax - Carved In Stone Lenny Dee - Forgotten Moments (DJ Mutante Remix) Lysa & Italian Terrorist - Lady Domineering Hellfish - The Ripper (Angerfist Remix) Dolphin - Golden Linnings (VIP Mix) Toward the end it goes a bit bonkers. But J.O.E. already warned us that this mix is slightly harder and faster. It starts around 200BPMs and only will increase throughout the mix. Just look at the last two records, and you know exactly what I'm talking about. J.O.E. loves these records, and so do I. There are some quirky ones in here I need to get used to, but at first glance I do appreciate them. The ones I need to listen to more, are 'Don't Care' and 'Still Real'. But they suit this mix extremely well. This isn't J.O.E.'s first Gabber of the 20s mix, and hopefully it won't be the last, It's been more than 6 months since the last instalment. I do feel like a fan boy, hoping to see these mixes appear on a regular basis. There's a huge demand for these, and for good reason. Bring back the Gabber sound! Or when you can't, relive the past by making new music sound like Gabber anthems from back in the day, but give it a 20s twist to them. A solid mix. I can only share my love and appreciation for this mix and the songs selected. They are all amazing anthems. DJ: J.O.E. - Take #17 - Schwarzen Dystopia (2024)
We are back in the new year with a new mix by RÃgur Lárus . This time it is Arnold Schwarzenegger who is on the centre stage. If you are a regular to this site, you know I love a bit of quirkiness in my life, and RÃgur Lárus' mixes are certainly that. The first one I found, was back in 2022. Now it's 2024, and it's time for a fresh new start. And even though he isn't my favourite actor (he's not even in the top 100000), the focus today is all about the tracks selected. And it's yet another glorious mix. One that might be a bit of a struggle to listen to today, but I'll get to that in a minute. I am not a fan of Arnold. The only good film he made, was Terminator. He can only do one voice, and he's well known for his weird phrases, and credit where credit is due, he even became a politician. Which is impressive, to say the least. Don't know if he was a good politician, that's not up to me to decide. But he's done quite a lot, this mister Arnold. And without him knowing, he's now also linked to the dance industry, be it through this mix. His face will always be linked to this wonderful, 2 1/2 hour long mix. The title is funny, but the mix certainly isn't. This is serious stuff, and remember I said that this mix would not help you today? Well, this is a very mellow and relaxing mix, and today is Friday, so you want something uplifting, something to make the day fly by. This ain't the mix for you, sorry to say. But this could assist you, if you are having a bad day. This will enlighten your mood, and feed your soul with awesome songs. RÃgur Lárus made yet another blinding mix, and the songs are so relaxing, I am nearly drifting away into a deep sleep. This mix is like a pleasant hug by someone you love. You just feel so comfortable and embraced. But which songs are in this mix? Curious yet? This is a mix full of artists I've not heard or seen before. This is a whole new experience for me. Not one name rings a bell. This is a complete unknown tracklist, and I'm loving it. You know why? Because then my focus lies solely on the music. And the music is great. Today isn't the first day I've listened to this mix. This has been on repeat for days on end, once I was informed that RÃgur Lárus uploaded a new mix. It takes a few months, but it's worth the wait. As quirky as the title of the mix is and also the cover image, the mix itself, that's just dope as fuck. It's heavenly, and inspirational. This mix has got everything you need to hear. House, Trance, Techno, and it's just a pleasant experience throughout. 2 1/2 hours fly by, and you feel so relaxed, you want to immediately listen to it again. The songs are carefully mixed together, after an extensive selection process, and the outcome is a wonderful mix. So far it's my favourite mix of 2024, and we are only 26 days into the new year. Only love and appreciation for RÃgur Lárus. He's done it again, and all 34 records are beautiful. Very melodic songs, but that's what I like. Not always, but this week it's been on my mind constantly. And I've been thinking and talking about Arnold a lot. Maybe a bit too much. Just sit back, and enjoy this mix. It's a very pleasant journey he is taking us on. Not everything is FUBAR. This mix certainly isn't. - The Crossbreed Legacy Series Part 1 (2024)
I don't need to explain who The Outside Agency are. They are well known in the Hardcore scene, and have been a stable force for many decades now. But what many don't seem to know, is what paved the way for The Outside Agency. The songs that influenced them to create this Crossbreed kind of music. I've been following them for a while now, and their latest mix is one that is interesting. The concept behind it is fascinating. You get a glimpse on what paved the way for The Outside Agency to become what they are, and what they have made. A trip down memory lane, through the eyes of The Outside Agency. To me, their song 'The Immobilizer', which they made alongside Mindustries, is still one of the finest Hardcore anthems ever made. Whenever I feel the need for a powerful anthem, I always fall back onto this beautiful specimen. But The Outside Agency might not be your cup of tea. You might not be interested in their approach. And that's cool too. In a way this mix isn't really a 100% focussed on what they are now, but how they became TOA. You get a quick, hour long mix with tracks from around 1992 to 1998, and it's as diverse as it gets. The songs are largely underrated, and sometimes forgotten, but thanks to mixes like this one, are we reminded of these classics. And even though I call myself a full on raver, there were still a few songs in here I'd never heard before, so I am now introduced into not only TOA's musical history, but also hearing 'new' songs. The songs are a few decades old, but still sound as fresh as when they were released. And it's certainly a mix you need to listen to, as the songs are so dope! Leave that up to TOA to make a mix sound splendid, and yet stand out! DJ Luna-C - I Know U (D'Cruze Remix) Hardsequencer - Hypnotizing Unhappiness Pinhead - Slammin' Beatz Hardliners - Motherfuckin' Breakbeat Citrus - Fascination Defqon - Brainwasher English Muffin - Blood Of An English Muffin Undercover Anarchist - Artcore Technohead - Jetset #1 Manga Corps - Wardancer Overdog - Fuck You Up The Possessed - Black Bood Genetic Waste - Genetic Waste Front 242 - Religion (The Prodigy Bass Under Siege Mix) DJ Hype - Shot In The Dark (Q-Bass Remix) Ilsa Gold - Silke (Ilsa Gold Remix) Chosen Few - The Break DJ Rob & Tim B - The Second Coming Tellurian - I Won't Stop Rocking Hellfish & The Producer - The Way Of The Homeboy Pt.2 (The Winter Of Discontent) Oh, this is a splendid looking list. A good selection, but this is only part 1 of TOA's Crossbreed Legacy mix series, so I cannot wait to hear more of these mixes. It's a nice glimpse, but also a reminder of how awesome music was in the 90s. The hour flies by before your eyes, and even though the songs are considered Hardcore anthems, they were influences by other genres, like Breakbeat, which I truly adore. And it gave TOA the idea to become the power duo. The songs are ace, and it's nice to see some of the early classics making an appearance. And be honest, how often do you see these anthems in mixes? Not that often, unfortunately. It's a shame, they should get the recognition they deserve, I am an early Hardcore lover, and whenever I hear those sounds, it makes me feel young again. The song that gives me the most goosebumps, that has to be 'Slammin' Beatz' by Pinhead. What an underrated anthem. It still reminds of my first ever mixed Hardcore CD, which had this song on there. It is still a masterpiece, but certainly not the only one in this mix. There's 20 amazing records, a fantastic selection by TOA. And I love 'Fascination'. Whoever Citrus is, the song has certainly become a timeless classic. The concept is ace, and the mix is dope too. Got nothing else to say. Go back in time, and relive the past. This mix is exactly what I needed to hear right now. The right amount of anthems, beautifully mixed together. The hour has been awesome! - Can You Believe This Is 10 Years Old! [Stamina Records ] (Mixed By M@rt!n-J) (2024)
I am a huge Freeform fan, and have been for quite a while now. And I've been a fan of the majestic label we all know and love, Stamina Records. I've bought a whole bunch of their yearly 'Best Of Stamina Records' full albums a few years ago in one go, and I do love what the label has done for the Freeform scene. The yearly albums will come to an end, with 2023 being the last year. 12 editions, and now it's ended, which is a pity. But the label has got a different future ahead of it, and the only thing we can say, is 'thank you' to all that have made the label such a success. I've been an avid fan for years, and their 2014 edition is one of my favourite ones. Not the number one though, but certainly in the top 3. 2012 and 2013 were the top 1 years for Stamina Records. But the main question here is, what's your favourite year, and which one is your favourite 'Best Of Stamina Records' album? The songs released on this label are all underrated classics that should get the recognition they deserve. M@rt!n-J has made many mixes, and this isn't the first Freeform mix out there. But what's the focus regarding this mix? Well, the fact that's it's nearly 10 years old, this wonderful album! And if you are a fan of Freeform, once you hear the mix or look at the list, you will be amazed to find out that all 15 songs are nearly 10 years old! Time has flown by too darn quickly. These songs still sound as fresh as when they were released. Hell, it doesn't even feel like 10 years ago! This mix is a throwback to the glorious years of Freeform. You won't be disappointed after hearing this mix, trust me. Rhythmics feat Mi'A - What We Learn Dante & Audio Warfare - Drug Real (Douglas Remix) Ectomorph vs A.B - Closer To God A.B - This (Westfest VIP) A.B & Nick 235 feat Rhona - Silence A Prayer (Substanced Remix) A.B vs K-Wire - Smiler (VIP Edit) jD-KiD - Unpreventable A.B vs K-Wire - Euphoria Rhythmics - Requiem Douglas - No Alternative A.B - Pigeon A.B vs Vinyljustice - Rok Da Beat Technikore & Cyrax - Difference (DJ Ned Remix) Cyrax feat A.B - Dark Matter A.B - Carburettor It's an amazing tracklist, and it was an amazing album though. The quality of the songs is just beyond anything else released in 2014. A.B and his label ruled the UK Hardcore scene. Unfortunately not everyone agreed or just didn't like Freeform enough, but tough on those haters. These are my views and I still stick by then. Freeform is fantastic. It is still going strong, but things have changed slightly. It is still underrated, which is a pity. But hopefully one day it will get the recognition it deserves. And if not, well, at least I like it, and a lot of others. I can only give credit to M@rt!n-J for making yet another epic mix with excellent records. But also give credit and show appreciation to Stamina Records for what they've been doing for many years. 2012 to 2014 were certainly the greatest years for Freeform. A solid mix with 15 epic records. And at the end, A.B's 'Carburettor' takes us to the darker side of Freeform, and ends the mix on a high note. I feel extremely energetic after this hour of pure pleasure, thanks to this label and the DJ behind this mix. If you want, you can purchase the last 'Best Of' album, or the previous ones. Be quick though, they might not be online forever. This is a cool concept though. Maybe M@rt!n-J should make more of those 'Can You Believe' mixes? Best record? 'This'. That song was literally everywhere! One of that year's biggest anthems! DJ: M@rt!n-J Genre/Style: Freeform Mix Info: Can You Believe This Is 10 Years Old! - Sa.Vee.Oh - My Old School Side Set (2012)
The other day I was reviewing a Qlimax appreciation mix, and one of the songs in it, was made by a producer called Sa.Vee.Oh. His 'Loop Hole' song was released back in 2003, and that's the song I know the artist from. And the song is an absolute dancefloor smasher. But unfortunately, and I'm being honest here, that's the only thing I know of the artist. But because of that limited knowledge, I went looking for some more, and did I find something? Yes, otherwise what's the point behind this review? The mix is an oldie. 12 years old. And I only discovered it a few days ago. But it's been on my mind ever since. It was made by Sa.Vee.Oh, and it's a big one. Filled with forgotten anthems, tracks you don't hear that often, which is obviously a pity. You need more of these anthems, and you need to hear them maybe once a week, or maybe even daily. They were anthems for our generation, but should also be anthems for future generations! As mentioned before, don't know much about the artist, and their Discogs page is quite empty. But obviously 'Loop Hole' is a big anthem, but not the only anthem he's made. You can find a few in this mix, including versions of amazing songs you might not have encountered before. Normally I would give you some feedback about the artist, but I think that's down to you, the reader. Please educate me, if you know a bit more about this artist. Sa.Vee.Oh - Electro Bass (Promo) Chris Dynasty - Subwayz Ratty - Sunrise (SHOCK:FORCE Remix) Sa.Vee.Oh - Nohacker.exe (Phil York & Dark By Design Remix) Nomad - Initiate Public Domain Soundsystem - Automatic Audio Overload (Sa.Vee.Oh Remix) Sa.Vee.Oh - Unlimited (Organ Donors Remix) Luca Antolini - Mastermind Sa.Vee.Oh - You Rock Geck-o - Dancing Machine (Reverse Banana Edit) Kidd Kaos - Definition Of An Anthem Noisecontrollers - Give It Up Dutch Master - Recalled To Life This is a nice blend of Hard Dance anthems. A bit of Hard Trance and Hardstyle. I love it. And it's carefully mixed by Sa.Vee.Oh. I wasn't fully aware of this producer's capabilities, but now I'm in awe. He might not have released many songs, but those that he did, are certifiably bangers! It's an hour long, and you get a nice variety of 'old' anthems. It's an hour of your life you won't get back, but it is all worth it. A few of his own productions are in here, which is the reason why I checked it out in the first place, as I was curious to hear other songs, not just 'Loop Hole'. Back in 2012, when this mix was released, the song 'Electro Bass' was about to be released, so it was a promo for this mix, to get everyone ready for this song. What a big anthem it is! It sets the tone for the rest of this mix. But here are two songs I go back to, every single time, and it is.... The first two songs. 'Subwayz' and 'Electro Bass'. The rest of the mix is awesome too, but these two songs are just sublime. I hear them on repeat, and both of them don't disappoint me. They are really energetic anthems, and I love them. It's a solid mix, and I'm happy to have found it. And my interest for the DJ has only increased. I need more Sa.Vee.Oh in my life! What happened to this earlier sound? Why has it disappeared? More of this sound, please! - BFH Radio || Episode 32 || Finnbarr (2024)
Finnbarr. You might recognise the name. It has appeared on this site before. Hell, I've even seen and heard him play. But that was a few years ago, and things have changed. He has changed too, but I'll explain that in a minute. For now, let us focus on the mix which you are about to listen to. It's a Techno mix, and one of the first ones I discovered in 2024. This will set the bar for the rest of the year. But leave that to Finnbarr. If there's one person who can provide us with awesome music, it's him! And this mix is one that won't disappoint you. I had to do a quick search, but it's nearly 8 years ago since BMH Freeform, where I say him perform, with other artists such as Rikki Arkitech, Transcend, A.B, Thumpa, Cyrax, and Midas. My God, where has the time gone? But back then, he was known to produce UK Hardcore and Freeform anthems, and he was bloody good at it. I hailed him as one of the finest producers at the time, and many agreed. Unfortunately the Freeform world is too small for Finnbarr, and he deserves a bigger audience with his producing skills. So Techno it is. I've been following him for a while on Soundcloud, and every so often something comes along, and it excites me. For this radio station called BFH, he made a mix containing a few of his own productions. And even though it's not Freeform anymore, you do hear its influence in the songs he made. When he was a Freeform producer, he was ace, and now as a Techno producer, he's ace too! A winner in my books. But is this mix one you need to check out, or leave behind? Finnbarr - Alley Cat Finnbarr - Be My Woman Finnbarr - In Your Arms Loving Loop - Say It Again KØZLØV & PRXYAMA - Toxic Aura Paul Glazby - Voices Finnbarr - Fools Rush In Detuned Inc. - Game Over Nobody - Infinite Space Remon Verhoeve - Bring It Ketting - Killing The Beat Finnbarr - Everything Is Fine Jappo & Lancinhouse - Exlxaxl (Neophyte & Evil Activities Remix) This is a very interesting mix. If you've never heard of Finnbarr before, and you would like to know what it is he makes, this mix could be a very interesting mix to introduce yourself into his world. Most of the tracks are made by Finnbarr, so you will be introduced, and you will love hearing his songs. Trust me, his songs are hard, rough, and sometimes a tad quirky to start with, but don't let his quirkiness fool you. His approach to Techno is awesome, and when you hear a Finnbarr song, you won't be able to remain seated. Or if you have to remain seated, your body starts to move vigorously. I'm now sitting at home, bopping my head up and down, from left to right. This music makes me move. The intro might be a tad soft, but once that's behind us, it's one powerful anthem after another. And toward the end he even goes Gabber-fast, and ends the mix with 'Exlxaxl', which can be seen as quirky, but it works well. There's a lot of awesomeness in this mix, and I'm glad that Finnbarr now makes Techno, as he should get recognition for his skills. And the songs he has added to this mix (his own), are all amazing. But the intro, that's the one that remained in my head for days. 'I've grown accustomed to the tune she hums night and noon'. Those lyrics are so infectious. Probably the coolest way to start a mix, and prepare the audience for the madness that is about to happen. An amazing mix. What's there to say? Finnbarr, you legend. Keep on providing us with awesome music. Whatever he touches, turns into Gold! And this mix, is certifiably GOLD! - Qlimax 2003 20 YEARS TRIBUTE mixed by Coarsection (2023)
Qlimax. A true Hardstyle lover knows this event, and if you are a die-hard fanatic, you've been to it. Started back in 2000 and still going strong. A lockdown did not even stop it, and it's been providing the harder styles fans years of pleasure. It's been an event many have talked about, and still adore to this day. I have unfortunately never been, as tickets sell out like hot cakes, and I'm a tad lazy too, but during the Millennium years, I did buy all the compilations released via Q-Dance. I did love the Hardstyle, Hard Trance, and Hard House released during the 2000nd, and someone has made an appreciation mix for Qlimax being around 20 years (this year it will be 21 years!). I do remember buying the albums and finding them all extremely dope. I think it was around 2009 or 2010 when it wasn't my 'thing' anymore, and I drifted away, but I still appreciated the event a lot. For those who've been around for many years, we all remember those DVDs you would purchase, showing snippets from the event, or those images of the event, mainly showing the ridiculous laser shows they had. I think I've seen more Qlimax picture in my lifetime, compared to other major event. Qlimax was everywhere, and became the place to be, or go to. This is one jam packed mix. 83 minutes long, and 30 records you all know (unless you are too young). The selection by Coarsection is really good, and it is a proper throwback to when Qlimax wasn't just focussed on Hardcore, Hardstyle and Hard House, but also had Hard Trance and Subground a.k.a. UK Hard House. Those days are gone, and so are also the sounds from those early years. Which records were selected for this mix? You really should check this out, it's a good one! Sa.Vee.Oh - Loop Hole Philippe Rochard - Music Machine Thomas Rubin - Cold Night Arome - Visions Of Paradise (DJ Scot Project Remix) DJ Theo & Louis Brain - Trashin' Madness (Julian DJ & Davide Sonar Vision Mix) Deepack vs Luna - Stomper Brooklyn Bounce - X2X (We Want More) (Deepack Remix) Deepack - 100% Ultra Tech - Bel-E-Ve Pincky - Meet My Beat (Hard Mix) Deepack - Down Low Hardside - Welcome (Pincky Mix) Analogic Disturbance - Wait A Second (Rave Mix) Chiren - Equalize It DJ Trilok - Effected Demons On Dope - Die Die Die (Mavor vs Mark Nails Remix) Krash - The World (Attack Version) Donkey Rollers - Motherfuck (DJ Zany Remix) The Pitcher - Pump It Loud! (Cenoginerz Mix) Ultrasonic - Ultrabass DJ Vortex & Arpa's Dream - Crazy (4 Navigators Remix) Julian DJ & Davide Sonar - Go Go Go (Hardstyle Winter Mix) w/ Spy-Kore vs Jim Noizer - Dance To The House Philippe Rochard meets Nu-Pulse - The Survivors Of Hardstyle (Zany's Ruff Mix) Jim Noizer - Up And Down DJ Kubrik - The Song (A.I. Mix) Deepack - The Prophecy (Qlimax 2003 Anthem) DJ Zany - Sky High (Pantope Mix) Deepack - Here's Johnny Marc Acardipane vs The Prophet - Stereo Killa (Prophet Mix) Brain Ovulation - Kicks And Bass (Acid Step Mix) This is a selection of records you don't see that often, or hear that often. And I wonder why that is the case, as they should be played more often. This is dope as fuck. These songs truly gave us reasons to dance on the dancefloors all over the world. It made a whole new generation of ravers dance until sunrise. I love the blend between multiple harder styles, which was a thing back in the day. An album could be as diverse, but you still absorbed it like a sponge, as you wanted to hear the biggest songs out there, the coolest, and the meanest. You just wanted to loose yourself in the moment, and a lot of these records did that. Not just at Qlimax, but also at events I've been too. These songs did appear on many compilations, and I remember hearing them when they were released. And I found them all dope as fuck. I wasn't just focussed on one hard style, but everything hard enough for my ears. Hardstyle was always the main focus, don't get me wrong, but Hard Trance, Hard House, and other styles were given the right amount of space to expand their fanbase and give the ravers what they needed to hear. It has all changed slightly (*ahum*). There are a lot of awesome records in here, and they really take me back in time. Having a headset on and blowing my ears to smithereens! Hell yeah, those were the dope days. Especially when 'Stomper', 'Motherfuck', 'Stereo Killa', and 'Visions Of Paradise' came on. What a bunch of records! They don't make 'em like back in the days anymore. The mix itself is a nice one, but has got a few mixing errors and recording errors. Nothing too major, but noticeable though. I do appreciate the concept though, and more of these mixes should be made. The more, the merrier! - Bryan Kearney - Peak Time Trance Mix (2021)
Remember COVID-19? When it arrived, it made the world loose their minds, and the whole world went into lockdown. Even us the UK had to go into lockdown, which was unpleasant for many, and it was difficult to get our heads around the idea of being at home 24/7, working, or being furloughed. For me it was like any other week, as I worked from home most days anyway. But yeah, it was different, but it got us humans closer to each other, even though we were miles away from each other. Zoom calls, silly games, and kitchen/bedroom DJ sets. Those were the things we did. Plenty of DJs kept themselves busy (and in the spotlight) during lockdown. As I was constantly working, I had no time to go online and watch them on Twitch and other platforms. And lockdown happened nearly 4 years ago, so I'm not really quick in finding these mixes and talking about them. One of those mixes I found, was one made by the legendary DJ and producer Bryan Kearney, and it's jam packed with Trance anthems. And when I say anthems, I do mean anthems. And as I'm currently riding a classic Trance wave, I needed more big Trance mixes. This one cropped up when I was looking for awesome mixes, and there's a good reason for it. Yes, he's DJing in his kitchen, but it was during COVID. Things were different. Life was different. Wouldn't want to go back. It was a horrendous time. Never again. Let's see what Kearney was cooking in his kitchen, and what the outcome of his kitchen session was: Push - Strange World Ralph Fridge - Angel Vengaboys - Kiss (Airscape Remix) Moonman - Don't Be Afraid DJ Tiesto - Sparkles (Transa Remix) Second Sun - Empire (Paul van Dyk Remix) Carlo Resoort - Remover Blank & Jones - Cream (Paul van Dyk Remix) Apoptygma Bezerk - Kathy's Song (Ferry Corsten Remix) Svenson & Gielen - Twisted Rank 1 vs John O'Callaghan vs Nalin & Kane - Out Of Beachwave (Bryan Kearney's Cream Ibiza Edit) Cygnus X - Superstring (Rank 1 Remix) Art Of Trance - Madagascar (Ferry Corsten Remix) Paul van Dyk feat Hemstock & Jennings - Nothing But You Gouryella - Walhalla Tillmann Uhrmacher - On The Run (Ocean To Shore Club Mix) Yes, yes, yes. What a mixture of records. They are big anthems, just what I needed to hear. And it's got the one track in here I adored when I was still going to Trance parties, especially when Sensation was a new phenomena. Of course, I'm talking about 'Superstring' by Cygnus X, remixed by Rank 1. A truly phenomena, this track certainly had everything the Trance community needed to hear. Bryan's selection is great. Not a fan of 'Out Of Beachwave', as the originals should not be mashed up, but left on their own, but that's just a personal opinion. Wouldn't class it as a bad song though, but I'm just feeling the originals more. But the best track selected by Bryan has to be 'Remover' by Carlo Resoort. The other day I did a review of an appreciation mix, focussed on the awesome 4 Strings, and 'Remover' has to be one of the greatest tracks ever made, right? A solid mix. A few years too late, but at least I'm enjoying it. This takes me back to a) the Millennium years and b) lockdown. Fuck option b, option a all the way! Back to the 2000nd! - Darren Simpson - 4 Strings Special (AH.FM Exclusive Mix) (2016)
Happy New Year to you all! Hope you had a nice holiday, and hope it was as festive as you wished it would be. Now we are all in 2024, and let's kick off the year with an amazing mix I only discovered a few days ago, and I've fallen in love with immensely. You know when you hear something that good, it takes over everything in your life, and you cannot control yourself anymore. This is one of those mixes that I didn't know I had to hear, and the second I heard it fully, it went on repeat for days on end. Yes, it's that cool! During the Millennium years, you could not go anywhere without hearing songs by 4 Strings. They were literally everywhere, and the biggest hits were played on the radio and you could find them on many compilations. You know the hits I'm talking about; 'Take Me Away', 'Believe', and 'Turn It Around'. Trance was still a new thing for me, so I didn't invest too much time in each act: I just wanted to absorb as much as I could. So I knew of 4 Strings, but never knew the ins- and outs. So how did I find this mix? Well, I was in a Millennium Trance mood, and whenever I think of the 2000nd, I always think of a certain Carlo Resoort song. A quick look on Discogs gave me the answer of which track I was looking for, but it also opened my eyes as to his aliases. He's not just Carlo Resoort, he's also Carlos (who made The Silmarillia, which is probably my first ever Trance track on CD single) and also part of 4 Strings. That I didn't know. And I only listened to whatever was on the compilations I owned. It was the early days of the internet, so I was only focussed on whatever was on the discs in front of me. I wasn't aware of the full discography of 4 Strings, but when I put 2 and 2 together, I quickly had a look on my trusted old friend Soundcloud, and found this mix by Darren Simpson. A 4 Strings appreciation mix, shall we call it. 4 Strings - Summer Sun (DJ 4 Strings Mix) 4 Strings - Take Me Away (Into The Night) (Original Vocal Club Mix) 4 Strings - Desire (Original Mix) Carlo Resoort - Remover (4 Strings Mix) 4 Strings - Mainline (Original Mix) 4 Strings - Let It Rain (Mystery Vocal Remix) 4 Strings - Catch A Fall (Club Mix) Carlos - The Silmarillia 2007 (4 Strings Extended Remix) 4 Strings - Hurricane (DJ 4 Strings Mix) 4 Strings - Daytime (Gizeh Remix) I have listened to this mix over and over, for days in a row. This is such a dope mix, and the selection is great. You know, sometimes you just have the urge to listen to something, and when you do find exactly what you were looking for, it makes you extremely happy and feeling satisfied. This is how I felt the first time I heard this mix. I felt satisfied. Pleased with myself and with the music I just re-discovered. There is something so pleasing in finding something so good, it makes you just feel elated. Like it has elevated me to the next fucking level. Darren Simpson's mix has done exactly that, and even though it's only 10 records, it's an hour of pleasure. The songs still rock, and can be seen as all-time classics. Obviously 'Take Me Away' is a huge hit, but let's not forget 'The Silmarillia'. The original was slightly better though. This extended version is good, but not as good as the version I had as a CD single. And I truly believe it was my first ever Trance single. I might be wrong, or right. Who knows? My God, it is hit after hit. But you know when it goes from 'big hits' to 'heavenly anthems'? From 'Desire'. The 5 songs in a row are just the finest Trance anthems ever made! Yes, that's one hell of a statement, but fight me in the comments though. They are solid as a rock. No messing about, pure Trance Heaven here. Those 5 records are my favourites of this mix. The others are good, but these 5 are just much, much better. They take me back to the golden years of Trance, when I was a young lad, discovering this 'new' thing called Trance. This made me happy, and still makes me happy, to this day. 20+ years, and it still sounds fresh, and still worthy to hear in a club or at a party, and you can still close your eyes and raise your hands in the air, and you will feel enlightened. A fucking solid mix. This is one I highly recommend. 4 Strings, they ruled during the Millennium years. They still release music, but the Millennium sound is just some next level shit! Is this going to be the only Trance mix you need to hear in 2024? It is fucking awesome though. It might be an 8 year 'old' mix, but it hasn't aged at all. It's still fresh. This is timeless music. - MIX #71 | PITCHED-UP HARDCORE CLASSICS | 160 - 205 BPM (2023)
OK, OK. I said that it was probably going to be the last review when I was finishing up the previous review, but I could not resist a mix I only found about 2/3 hours ago. I found this mix, which was uploaded onto Hardcore Power Radio's Soundcloud channel, which contains pitched-up Hardcore classics. Now those are words I can work with, and words I do love. Early this year I discovered this channel, and reviewed their megamix (which got 3 out of 5 stars), and they've slipped through the cracks somehow. But don't you worry, this mix I could not ignore, as the first impressions are good. Hardcore? Check. Pitched up? Check. The concept seems simple, and it is. Just classics, pitched up. Voila, concept is born. It's not always required though, as the original versions might be perfect, but sometimes the pace needs to be a bit faster than normal, and for those moments, the tunes need to be pitched slightly. Not too fast though, because if it's too fast, it becomes unlistenable. You don't want to hear songs that are normally around 150/160 BPM all of a sudden be 250 BPM. That becomes rubbish in a split second. Pitch it perfect, and the song becomes even better?! At first glance, looking at the tracklist, it's got some sick anthems in here. Some new ones too, but it's a mixture of old and new. And it also has a few tracks in here you don't hear that often. Oh, and Hardcore Power Radio has added a lot of DJ Promo records in here. You might even think they are a fan of Promo. But name me one who isn't? Promo is a legend. But so are the others too in this mix. Now you are curious, right? Well, here's the list for you ravers out there: Promo - What The Fuck? Catscan - Enemy On The Run Razzle Dazzle Trax - Rattlebrain (DJ Isaac's Overdrive Mix) Mad Dog - You Don't Belong D-Passion - Blacklist Amok Promo - Patterns In Chaos Promo - Emotions Over Anger Promo - King Of Pain Menace II Society - Chronic Disorder Marc Acardipane - Atmos-Fear (DJ Mad Dog Remix) The Darkraver & DJ Vince - Thunderground (KELTEK Remix) DJ Waxweazle - Hardcore Power '97 (DJ Promo Remix) Promo - Running Against The Rules Placid K - G Member Ophidian & Tapage - The Mine Tommyknocker - Sometimes Mindustries - Facerocker Miss K8 - Icebreaker (Nosferatu Mix) Angerfist - Buckle Up And Kill Lenny Dee - The Dreamer (Promo Remix) Charly Lownoise & Mental Theo - DJ Fuck Promo - Cheating Bitch (Dedicated) Masters Of Ceremony - Hardcore To Da Bone (N-Vitral Remix) T.O.P.D.R.O.P. - Achtung 2010 (Angerfist Remix) Lil Texas - 400 Rounds This is literally a mixture of everything Hardcore, be it old and new. We jump backwards and forwards constantly, and that makes the mix interesting. Also the records used in this mix sound good. Quick question though: is KELTEK's remix of Thunderground Hardcore, or more Hardstyle? I do like the selection, and they are quite diverse. And I'm not even complaining about the DJ Promo records, as they are everyone's favourite records. If not, please go away. You cannot hate the legend, the Millennium master. The mix itself is OK, and I really like the majority of records. Not feeling the KELTEK or Lil Texas song though, but that could just be me. I do get why you end with '400 Rounds'. My favourite song is one made by Mad Dog. As he's had an insane few years, he's given us the urge to appreciate Downtempo, and take it back to the roots of Hardcore. 'You Don't Belong' is such a masterpiece of a record. Come on, there's no denying it! Some tiny mixing errors and two 'meh' records. Not bad to be fair though. This mix has been on loud since I pressed play, and you should do the same. Pitch it the fuck UP! - Trance Classics Vinyl Only Winter Mix (By Divine) (2023)
Last review of the day. Maybe of the year. Who knows. Maybe I can get myself behind my laptop tomorrow, or not. Only one way to find out. But for now, let me introduce the next mix. This one has been made by Divine, and has been uploaded onto Addicted to Trance's Soundcloud channel. As the image suggests, this is a Winter mix. Hopefully we won't have a Winter that bad. Imagine seeing that out of your window first thing in the morning? Maybe I should invest some pounds into snow tires? But it's still mild, so I'm glad. But it is the Winter period though, so we can enjoy this mix, wherever you are on this Earth. This is a very fresh mix, and it has been only a few hours online. And as the title suggests, it's a Trance classics mix, with some big tracks in the mix. An hour and 23 minute long mix with some beautiful, inspiring songs. Who doesn't want to hear that? The songs are solid as a rock, and they will uplift you to a state of absolute bliss. I'm a Trance fan since the late 90s, and have listened to many songs, but not all of them. So I'm still discovering songs that have been out for many years/decades. This mix has got a few of them that I've not heard before, including remixes of classic anthems I've not heard before. But I don't care. It's all about the vibes, and the vibes are good. Not feeling the Winter elements of this mix, but I still feel enlightened. I feel more relaxed and calm, and euphoric. It's a nice blend, and you will love it. Let's have a quick look at the tracklist: Estuera vs Re-Locate - Palma Solane Jonas Steur - Silent Waves Midway - Cobra (Original Mix) Mesh - Purple Haze Envio - Touched By The Sun (Original Mix) Sun Decade - I'm Alone (Micro De Govia Dub) Blue Horizon - The Journey (Pulser Remix) Firewall - Sincere (Pulser Remix) Push - Strange World (Spectrum Remix) Active Sight - Out Of Our Lives DJ Danjo & Rob Styles - Duende (Signum Remix) ALFA - Sacrosanct A short list, but it's not the amount of songs used in a mix that matters: it's about the songs and how powerful they are. And I can assure you, that there are powerful anthems in this mix. There are truly amazing records. The peak for Trance (for me) was between 1999 and 2007, those were the years. The early early stuff is a bit of hit & miss for me personally, but the Millennium years were the greatest years by far. And I bought many albums with stunning songs on them. One of the songs that I do remember hearing back in the day, made its way into this mix, and it is still a favourite of mine. Guess which one? You wouldn't have a clue, don't know why I asked you to guess it. But it's Mesh's 'Purple Haze'. Beautiful song. Doesn't need much to uplift you. But 'Cobra' by Midway is the next song I truly love, it's close second. Divine has made a very interesting mix with some big hitters. End the year with some fine Trance anthems from back in the day. Christmas is over, celebrate the new Year in style. Close your eyes, and let the music take you places you've never been before! A solid mix, DJ Divine! - Iridium DJ Presents The Golden Days Of Early Hardstyle - December 2023
The end of the year is near. And let's end with something hard and rough. We started today with an 80s Pop mix filled with guilty pleasure songs, and let's remain in the past. Not that far back though, only a few decades back in time. The early years of Hardstyle, when they were seen as the golden years of Hardstyle. Iridium DJ has got you covered. And it might not sound very celebrative, but at least the image he used for this mix looks very festive. Let's end the year on a positive note, shall we? I grew up listening to Hardstyle (when it was new and exciting), and it could not have sounded any different from the current sound coming out of the scene. But things change, and that's just a fact. At least we've got mixes like this one, they will certainly take us back in time. You just need to close your eyes and you are back in the early years. It's as simple as that! For this mix he has selected 18 records, and those 18 will certainly get you moving. You cannot just sit still and absorb these songs, you HAVE to move. Well, you don't have to, but your body will automatically get up from the chair/sofa/bed you are sitting/laying on, and you will start raving your ass off. These are some big hitters from the forgotten era, and you'll appreciate them as much as I have. Just have a look at these songs, you won't regret it! Charlie (B)Rwon - Slam N Jam (Tatanka Remix) Tuneboy - Housenation (Da Kicker Strikes Again Mix) Brain Ovulation - Kicks & Bass (Acid Step Mix) Warmduscher - 10 Kleine Bassdrums (Pille Palle Mix) DJ Vortex & Arpa's Dream - Navimel (Original Mix) Technoboy - Ravers Rules (K-Traxx Remix) DJ Zany - Sky High (Original Mix) Ramirez - El Ritmo Barbaro (Moratto Remix) Autokriminal - Express J. Technoboy - Hardrive (Lesson 2) Thomas Trouble & Blutonium Boy - Go Burn A Fatty Ass (Blutonium Boy Hardstyle Mix) Ard und Jorn - 16 (DJ Nagoom Mix) Autokriminal - Baila Conmigo (Original Mix) Julian DJ & Davide Sonar - Techno Noise (Original Frequency Mix) Arne L ll & DJ Mirko Milano - Freak In Me (Original Mix) Jimmy The Sound - M.O.D.U.L.O. (One Vrs) Taq 9 - Slavez (Original Mix) Showtek - Controller (DJ Duro Mix) There are some big hitters in this mix, and for me, two stand out the most, as they were on my favourite mixed CD compilations from the early years. You will never be able to guess which two I'm talking about, so let me tell you the two records I'm talking about. 'M.O.D.U.L.O.' and 'Go Burn A Fatty Ass'. Those were my favourites in this mix. I bought many compilations, and when I discovered these two songs on certain albums, I fell in love with them, and they have been in my top 10 of all time Hardstyle anthems. I can still see the albums if I close my eyes and even know the label that released them, but for the life of me, I cannot remember the title of the CDs. I know I still have them somewhere, must do some digging later. An amazing selection by Iridium DJ. Yet another wicked mix. And it's a good one to end the year with. It will (hopefully) not be the last early Hardstyle mix by Iridium, as I would like to hear and see more of these mixes. They take me back to my happy years when I was in my teens/twenties. I need to relive those years more often. They make me happy, as this mix has. - 80s Guilty Pleasures Pop Mix 1 - 27-12-23
Back in 2022, I discovered a Soundcloud channel, run by Craig Scott, and since that moment, I have been checking his page out nearly on a daily basis. It started with a Plymouth Warehouse Techno mix, followed by an Oldskool Hardcore Rave mix, and then the successful Hardcore Breakz mix series, which still to this day can be considered one of the finest mix series on Soundcloud. Yes, that might be a statement, but it's the truth. But today, the 30th of December, we won't be listening to some Hardcore anthems. We are going back in time, to the 80s. And it's going to be a mix filled with guilty pleasure songs. You ready for it? I was born in the 80s, and I'm glad that I did. Imagine waking up into a world, not having experienced the 80s at all! Not just the 80s, but the music from the 80s. Those were glorious years, a fantastic decade. And even though Craig has called this a guilty pleasure mix, these songs aren't really guilty pleasure songs, right? They are classics that everyone loves and adores. If you have a look at the tracklist, you won't find one song you truly hate. Not one! In our household we listen to a lot of 'old' music, and it ranges between the 80s, 90s and 00s. Yes, 90s might have been a tad closer to me, as I was a full on teenager throughout the 90s, but quality-wise, the 80s were much better, right? Music was so much more than life. Songs were different, and had this distinctive sound, which we don't hear or see anymore in pop music, and it's just so smooth to hear. 80s music is much more smooth to listen to. You can play present day pop music at a birthday party, and there will always be people complaining about the music. Put 80s music on, and no one will complain. It's a perfect decade, right? Which 'guilty pleasure' songs did Craig select for this mix? Madonna - Lucky Star Duran Duran - Girls On Film Billy Ocean - Caribbean Queen Freeez - IOU Whitney Houston - How Will I Know Cameo - Word Up Phil Collins - Sussudio Johnny Hates Jazz - Shattered Dreams Steve Winwood - Valerie David Bowie - Let's Dance Madonna - Into The Groove Duran Duran - The Reflex Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun The Human League - Don't You Want Me Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance With Somebody Ollie & Jerry - There's No Stoppin Us Deniece Williams - Let's Hear It For The Boys Jermaine Stewart - We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off Yes, these are the big hits from the 80s. Not all of them. Christ, if Craig had to make a mix with ALL the big hits, the mix would be days long! The mix is 62 minutes long, got 18 records, and the length is just perfect. What else is there to listen to, between Christmas and New Year's Eve? That's correct, no more Christmas songs! Let's go back in time to the 80s! They are all solid songs. And it's funny to actually see the artist names next to some songs, as I know the songs, but never know who did the song. Like 'Valerie', 'Shattered Dreams', 'Word Up' etc. You know the songs, and sing them along whenever they are on, but ask me the artist name? My mind goes blank. Yes, this is slightly different to what you are normally seeing on my site, but I don't care. It's a Craig Scott mix, and I love his mixes. He's got a lot of mixes on his Soundcloud and YouTube, and if you are into this and are open-minded, you can check his other stuff out too. The 80s are just so much happier, when it comes to pop music. And these aren't just guilty pleasure songs: they are anthems for my generation. The young kids don't know that these tunes were ours when we grew up, and they made us happier. No need for shaking your booty or breasts and swearing in your songs. You just needed to have the capability to sing, and you could sing about anything! And it would be a hit. The current pop music producers could only wish they would have the capability to make present day music as timeless as music released in the 80s and 90s. That's a trade skill they lost over the years. The best song? Tricky, I love them all equally. But Jermaine Stewart's song has got to be the coolest, happiest, and maybe a bit cheesy, but it's so God damn cheerful. Such an innocent song, but a song that will remain in your head for a whole year. Well, for maybe a day and a half, until the next year comes along. Another solid mix by Craig. Loving the vibes, loving the 80s. More please! More of those. Keep them coming! - EVOLUTION records classics showcase (170+BPM) (10.04.2017)
OK, one more review today. Started off with some Hardcore, and now we are still listening to Hardcore. But not the Hardcore you are thinking off, but the UK Hardcore side of it all. Specifically, the Evolution Records side of UK Hardcore, the label run by Scott Brown. A man who I have adored for many years, and the label that (to me) has released the best records ever made. Well, the label was run by Scott Brown and most of the tunes were his own, but no one cares. Scott Brown is, was, and will forever be a pioneer of the scene. The saviour. The legend. The godfather of UK Hardcore. Or just a God, depending on your views. And now, on the 29th of December, you can appreciate it even more... I saved a Hard Trance mix the other day, made by Audioholik, and I wanted to hear something else. I know the DJ for his Hard Trance mixes, and I was pleasantly shocked when I found this UK Hardcore mix. I wasn't expecting it, but now I found it, I don't want to let it go. I need to listen to it again. Why? Well, there's multiple reasons for it, but let me drill it down to a few reasons: 1) it's made by Audioholik, 2) it's an Evolution Records showcase mix 3) it's got Scott Brown records. No need for more reasons, right? UK Hardcore has been running down my veins since the early 2000nd, and to this day am I an avid fan of the genre. Nothing can beat the Millennium sound, and Scott Brown and his label played a crucial part during those years. I've absorbed his music so much, I can go to sleep and still hear his music haunting me, and I wouldn't be scared. His music has become timeless, and it is obvious at a rave: play a Scott Brown record, and everyone will loose their freaking minds! Audioholik's mixes have always been extremely entertaining, but with this mix he gained another level of respect from me. His channel is now one of the GOAT channels on Soundcloud. Fact. Scott Brown - Out Of My Brain Scott Brown & Cat Knight - All About You Scott Brown - Push It (Music Please) Plus System - Let's All Get Down Scott Brown - Definition Of A Bad Boy Plus System - Blue Anthem Scott Brown - Hardcore Is The Future Plus System - Do It Like We Do Scott Brown - Neckbreaker (Plus System mix) Plus System - This Is How We Do It Scott Brown - Hardcore Hustler (Hardcorevolution Mix) Plus System - Serial Killler Scott Brown - Pro To Plasm Plus System - Rhythm Machine Q-Tex - Like An Angel Scott Brown - Taking Drugs Plus System - Prince Of Darkness Scott Brown - We're Droppin' This Plus System - Make You Freak Scott Brown - Make The Beat Drop Plus System - Bassline Of The Century Scott Brown - The Stranger Plus System - Dehumanize Scott Brown - Hardcore U Know The Score This is like a wet dream, isn't it? If you are into UK Hardcore, you will love this mix a lot. Scott Brown is just such a legend, and his music will make you love life even more. Where would we be without Scott and his label? Audioholik's mix contains a lot of timeless anthems, and as a true fan, you must know them all by heart. You can sing them all, and now when the beats drops, when the vocals come in, etc. These songs are embedded into our brain, and we are so much in love with Scott's music, he has become (without knowing) our saviour. His music can sound so happy and uplifting, and sometimes that is just what we need. He has made some harder anthems too, let's not forget those. But the focus now lies with the UK Hardcore/Happy Hardcore side of the label. There are too many anthems to choose a favourite. But the one that gets me going the most, has to be 'Taking Drugs'. Closely followed by 'Make You Freak'. If I'm on the dancefloor and either of these songs come on, I raise my hands in the air, and loose myself completely. Why has this style never caught on in the Netherlands? This should have been embraced by the Dutch. A fantastic mix by Audioholik. His Scot Project mixes were awesome too, but I've got to give this mix all the credit it deserves, and also all the credit should go to Scott and his label. Oh, how I love his music!!! Audioholik, please make more of these UK Hardcore mixes. Please!!! - Alternative Hardcore Yearmix 2023 - Mixed by Sound Abuse
The end of the year is near, and year mixes are coming out of the woodworks. And I'm glad that they do. They highlight how great (or shit) a year has been, and some of those mixes you look forward to, and some you just want to see disappear, the same way 2023 is about to disappear. One of the mixes I wasn't expecting, could probably be the one for you all to listen to. It's made by Sound Abuse, and it's a 57 minute long mix, with 53 records in them. That should be sufficient, right? 2023 has been a weird year for Hardcore, as a plethora of records were released which I thought were just OK, and some were just insanely good. But there has also been a chunk of records ready to go into the bin. A mixed year, but it might have been a great year for you all. How has 2023 treated you all? Has it been a good year, a mixed year, or a shit year? The only thing you could say, is the fact that the year has certainly not been boring. It's been interesting, and I truly found it cool to discover new music. And especially when it was records that could revive the early Hardcore sound. One of my favourite records of the year is in this mix, but can you guess which one it is? Bit tricky if this is your first time on this page, but don't you worry. I'll reveal the answer soon. But for now, let's focus on the tracks used by Sound Abuse, and how they got them all in a 57 minute long mix. Hardez - Technology Pt.1 Negative A - Freak Response Armageddon Project - Believe Satronica & Lenny Dee - Call The Man (Buzz Fuzz Remix) BangBas feat CitronHead - Fixing What Matters Cubic Nomad - Difficult Situation Starving Insect & Catscan - Merged With Silence Mad Dog & Marc Acardipane - Sick With It (Original Mix) Ritchie Gambino - I'm Sick Of All These Lies Electronic Mind Expansion - Old Hag Miro - Golden Dawn Daniela Haverbeck - La Serpiente RVLT - As We Kick Promo - Counter Attack (Starving Insect Remix) Furyan - Mysteries Of Creation Alex B - Heredity Unleashed Kilbourne - Milkshake Dustrializer - Dustortion Ragnarok - Sleepless The Silence - Remain Calm E-Noid - Face Of Chaos Neophyte & The Viper - 2 Much Junk Densha Crisis - A Sun That Never Rises Collision - Sinstate The Ravenous - Eye Opener Darksider - Artificial Blood Kader & God Complex - World Domination Noisia & The Upbeats - Dead Limit (Evil Activities Remix) Fixxxer Acid - Wardcore Embrionyc - The Way I Like It Neophyte & The Stunned Guys - Get This Motherfucker (Restrained Remix) Detest - Die In Hell Miss Hysteria - Escape (Lunatic & Rapture Remix) Csabi - Clone DJ Salvo - In The Club Sunkt8 - Hiatus Dark Phoenix - Forever The Prophet - Big Boys Don't Cry (From The Hard Remake) Visceral - Age Of Reason Dione - Back 2 Da Oldskool Viruz - Assassinate Estefania Jimarez & Otnislash - Oldskool Rave Square Dimensione - Brand New Dance (Johnny 7 Remix) The 3eyed - Swarm Of Vipers Hellfish - Tuning Arkhyanax - Renegade Bloodred Shadow - Haagenti Angerfist & Detest - The Untouchables Tha KroniK - Hardcore Dangerous Lenny Dee - Forgotten Moments (DJ Mutante Remix) SpeedyQ's - No More Yin (IND Remix) Ani Klang - God Complex Micron - Journey To The Bottom Of The Sea The mix starts of slow, if I can call it 'slow'. For the true Hardcore fanatic, it isn't slow, but perfect. But for some it might sound dreadful, true sound abuse, but whatever camp you are in, you should appreciate Hardcore. If you aren't a lover of it, you can fuck off. Goodbye! Toward the end it goes bananas. It really does. The BPMs go up, and only those that can tolerate the hardest can listen to this. I can listen to all kinds of Hardcore, so I didn't mind it goes bonkers. But what I did notice, is that I only know less than 10% of the artists in this mix. Have I been too long out of the scene? Or are they all new names? Should I spend more time? What's going on? I do love this mix, and there are a lot of excellent tracks. It's quite the diverse mix, and if you are looking for something different yet cool, you are in luck. Sound Abuse have got your back with this yearmix. It's a cool one, that's for sure. My favourite is Restrained remix of an all time classic, which actually sounds better than the original. The original was dope as fuck, but this version is one I prefer more. Who would have thought that, that a remix could be better than a 90s classic, eh? A solid mix. Go and listen to it right NOW. I urge you to do so. You will love it as much as I did. And to prove it? I'll press play yet AGAIN. I want to hear it again! - EHA 22 Yearmix 2023 Mix
Some might say Christmas is over, and you can get rid of your Christmas CDs and stop listening to those Christmas radio stations, and I do agree. Between Christmas and New Year you cannot listen to it anymore, and you need to go back to 'normal'. But what is normal for some, might be a tad different to others. I am one of those weirdos who loves to listen to Hardcore 24/7, and that's exactly what I'm doing right now. I'm listening to a yearmix, done by someone called Nightshifter, which contains a lot of 'new' Hardcore anthems that resemble the 90s sound a lot. And you know I am a sucker for that kind of music. I literally just saw this fly by on my timeline, and I had to jump on it. It is because a) it's got the word 'Yearmix' in the title and b) behind the DJ there are covers of Thunderdome albums, and you gain my attention by showing that. And once I had a quick look at the tracklist, I knew it was going to be a very special mix. It's got so many names in here I recognise, and it's also tracks with this distinctive sound I truly love. I keep forgetting what they call this kind of music, but it's 90s sounding Hardcore but made in the 20s. It's got this specific name, and I don't know what it is. Newskool? Nu Hardcore? I don't know, but if you do, leave a comment below. I do recognise plenty of names in this mix, and it's a mixture of literally everything old and new, but sounding dope as fuck. This is mainly due to the fact that it resembles a sound long lost, which we call 'Early' or '90s' Hardcore. And a handful of artists keep it alive, and I love them for doing exactly that. Hardcore will never die, and I'm glad it's still alive, and still sounding fresh! But what has Nightshifter used for his hour and 15 minute long yearmix? Well, these records: DJ Elmo - We're The Generation Project XTC - Straight Ahead (Hardcore Mix) Predator - Wild Stylz (Original Mix) Mortifer - Artcore Battles Januskopf - Chug-Jug-Chit-Chat (Original Mix) Bio-Forge - Desolated Rhythm Biodome - Do That Shit Stormtrooper & Project XTC - Hoover & Out Predator - Human Blood (Arjuna Remix) Ophidian - Back To The Oldschool Technohead - Smash The Disco (Wicked XXX Remix) Chosen Few feat DJ Pila - The Break (Wicked XXX Remixxxx) Wicked XXX - Acid Dreams Greensequence - Shadows Arvid - Defender Of The Faith Januskopf - Please Refrain From Speaking Biodome - Watch Your Eardrums Pop M-Project - Battlefield Speedy Lo - Destructive DJ Ad - Roots Lenz - Gonna Be Okay Painbringer - Born For This Speedy Lo - I'm Perfekt Biodome vs DJ Ad - Fuck Up The Party Omar Santana - Hype The Funk (Wicked XXX Remix) MESSI4H & Hellboy - Never Turn Your Back On Drugs (Club Mix) The mix has made me a very happy bunny, and the songs are all solid as a rock. I might put out a statement some might disagree with, but to me this new/old sounding Hardcore is the kind of music we should have had in the 90s. Some tracks made in the 90s lacked the quality they put on these newly made records. Not slating the whole scene, but certain records made in the 20s sound way better than some made in the early years. The quality is amazing of some of these records, and by putting them all in one mix, it has made this mix even better. The songs are insane, and truly astonishing, and some exceed my expectations. Hell, if they were released in the 90s, they would have dominated the charts, and would have been on plenty of compilations, and played at many raves, they are that good. The one that stands out the most, has to be M-Project's 'Battlefield'. What a brilliant record. I had to look twice to check if it was indeed a new record, or a track made in the 90s. It's a solid mix with some dope ass records. They are as good as the songs released in the 90s. And some would have suited it extremely well. Or, to put it in my own terms: the 90s have never ended, and it's still going on strong. The sound will never die, and I'm so happy. 90s Hardcore is just sublime, and it has made thousands/millions of people happy. And if you are one of those people, you will certainly like this mix too! - BREAK THE RULES YEARMIX 2023
It is now the 28th of December 2023, and we've all gone through the few festive days we like to call Christmas. I hope you all had a wonderful time, and have recovered from the amount of food and drinks you have stuffed down your throat. It is still 2023, but not for long. 3 more days until 2024, which sounds weird, but let's end this year with something special. A mix by a legendary Rawstyle DJ and producer DJ Jason Payne. He has uploaded a mix just before Christmas, and you might have already spotted it, but if you haven't, check it out right now. A few years ago I discovered Jason Payne, and fell in love with his mix, and the songs he made. I can't remember which mix it was, could have been a promo mix for an event. I cannot find it anymore, but what I still know (and have today), is love for his music. His latest mix is called 'Break The Rules Yearmix 2023', and even though I spend a lot of time on Soundcloud, I don't know anything about this 'Break The Rules'. Can anyone update me please, on what this is all about? Is it a new label? A collective? Whatever it is, I'll find it out. But for now, let's focus on this mix. And the mix is only 52 minutes long, and it contains 21 unknown records (to me). The only name that rings a bell, is the name of the DJ (no, not Chosen Few): Jason Payne. So seeing as I go into this mix blind, let's just dive straight into it, and let me show you the tracklist, and maybe you, the connoisseur, might know who the other artists are and know their tracks... Jason Payne - Never Let You Go Undesired - Reason Proteaz & Solutio - Luminous CREST - Anything Is Something Cybershock - East Coast Undesired - Bring It Proteaz - Child's Play Undesired - Raving Crew Jason Payne - Turn Up The Noise Cybershock - Money Drop Undesired - Oldschool Cybershock - Me Against The World Animosity - Click Clack Undesired - Darkness Jason Payne - One Shot Sabotage - Do My Thing Cybershock - The Business Undesired & Fatal - Ungrateful Little B!tch Jason Payne & Collusion - DNGRS Fatal - Live Or Die Undesired - The Psychopath This (to me) looks like an interesting tracklist, but it's all about the music. And the music is what kept me focussed on this mix from the start to the finish. And I've had this on repeat, I am that dedicated to this. I really love Rawstyle, and love the music, as it's raw, rough, and tough, and hearing new music always makes me smile a bit more. This Break The Rules yearmix is a good one, and if you are into Rawstyle, you will appreciate it a lot. And you even get festive wishes from a few of the artists throughout the mix, which is a nice addition. There's a plethora of awesome records, but the records that made me move the most, are the ones made by Undesired, especially 'Raving Crew' and 'Bring It'. A new name to me, but one I will certainly look out for. The melodic aspects of Undesired is what makes me love the songs. Jason Payne's year mix is a solid one, and if you haven't checked it out yet, make sure you do! You won't be disappointed, and as there's fuck all on the radio between Christmas and New Year, why not let Rawstyle be your guide throughout the last few days of 2023? - Si Thompson - February Breakbeat & Hardcore (3-2-2022)
Last mix before I sign off, and start enjoying the festive season. I thought I'd end it with a nice Breakbeat mix, and one that I found a few weeks ago. It's not really Christmassy, but close enough, as the image above looks colourful and very festive. That's the only resemblance to the festive few days ahead. Everything else is just Breakbeat and Hardcore, and nothing else. And we need something to keep us going. Si Thompsons mix contains the right amount of excellent Breakbeat and Hardcore anthems, and you'll thank me later for sharing this. It's not a brand spanking new mix, but age doesn't matter, does it? As long as it rocks, and this one rocks. I am always very enthusiastic about Breakbeat songs, and this mix has got a few that I recognised, and a few I might have heard/seen before, but never really paid attention to. Or not even heard before. Well, don't blame me for not knowing everything, as there's still so many great anthems out there I haven't discovered yet. Too much music, so little time. Normally mixes by Si are short, but this one is a nice length. Roughly an hour, and a shit ton of amazing Breakbeat/Hardcore/Rave anthems from back in the day. And I should not continue talking bollocks, I should just dive straight into the mix, and show you what you are about to listen to, if you haven't already: Bass Selective - Drum Thunder Kid Andy & Nickle Bee - Push It To The Limit Kid Andy & Nickle Bee - I Am Crazy Freestyle & DJR - Feed Back Hedgehog Affair - The Pipe SMD 4 - Untitled (Side A) SMD 4 - Untitled (Side B) Austin - I Get High ('93 Remix) The Invisible Man - The End... (Drug Induced Psychosis Mix) Tango - Future Followers The Prodigy - Your Love Chaos & Julia Set - Scud Beats Unknown Artist - Above The Clouds ('21 Jungle Remix) DJ Kid Andy - Baby Stop Spinning Me Around (Sweet Girl's Mix) A short list, but a powerful one. Si has picked 14 amazing records, and the result is a 55 minute long mix that will fly by before you know it. And of course, you cannot do a mix like this one and NOT have a Prodigy song in it. How could you do that? It's just impossible, right? A solid mix, and it's not the first time I truly enjoyed a Si Thompson mix. There are plenty on his Soundcloud page, so if you are after more of this, there's plenty for you to look out for. The tracks are solid, and the flow is very nice. I've got no negative feedback whatsoever. And you might be thinking 'oh he's picking The Prodigy as his favourite'. And you'd be dead wrong. 'Scud Beats' is my favourite song in this mix. Slightly slower compared to the other songs in this mix, but a dope ass song nonetheless. A truly astonishing track. Get on this right now, and check out hundreds of other mixes on Si's page. You'll love it! - It's Beginning To Sound A Lot Like Christmas (2017)
Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the day has arrived. Christmas Eve has arrived, and we are all getting ready to stuff our faces with some unnecessary food items, which we could have eaten throughout the year, but we wait until the end of December to tuck in. We wait, and we also give presents on the 25th of December to those we love and cherish. To me, it's always the same. Socks, bath stuff, and some bits that might go straight in the bin. It's getting a bit boring now, but what isn't getting boring, is our yearly tradition. We always go back to one mix that can only be played in December, and it is largely forgotten about. And the mix is made by the friendly people behind the Soundcloud channel 'History Of Happy Hardcore'. Yes, it's THAT mix I'm talking about! It has had a few plays over the years since it was released back in 2017, but it should get more plays. And it's kind of a tradition for TCD to go back to this mix around the holiday season, and even though I had multiple other mixes ready for a review, I could not give one shiny shite about it, and went back to this one. Why, you might be wondering, and I can't give you an answer to that question, unfortunately. Is it good? Well, in a way, yes. But is it bad? Also yes. Hardcore has been around for a few decades, and it has had its ups and downs. But overall, it has been a great ride for those that have followed the scene since day one. But, like everything successful, things are tried and tested, and unfortunately they don't work. Like combining Hardcore and Christmas. It might have looked great on a piece of paper, but when it came to fruition, it wasn't a success. And it sounds weird, cheesy, and too christmassy, if that's even a thing. But it's like my guilty pleasure, my thing to listen to, if I am in need of getting my spirit uplifted! It can be funny though. But only listen to it a few times, or you go mad. You will loose the plot, and you might think you are Father Christmas. Don't want that to happen though. It is cheesy, but some of these records can be considered classics, if the Christmas element was taken out of the equation. Rotterdam Termination Source - Merry X-Mess The S.T. Crew - Ravin' Angels The S.T. Crew - Christmas With S.T. Scott Brown - Start The Cavalry The Frosties - Frosty The Snowman Carlos Mirilla - Escarola Rob X-Mas - Happy Christmas Santasaurus Rex - Up On A House Top Claustrophobia - X-Mas Rave Holy Shit - Now It's Christmas Davie Forbes - Bingle Jells Brothers In Crime - Sleigh Rave Winter Wonderland - Fuck Christmas Songs Sunblock-X - Carribean X-Mas Claus S - Family X-Mass X-Mass Raver - Hallelujah Sensor - Rudolf The Rednose Ravedeer Santa For President - Santa Is Coming El Bruto - Silverbells Paul Elstak - Hosanna Brothers In Crime - 100% Christmas Scrooge - X-Mass Alone Scarface - Santawaus The Triplets - Marry X-Mazz D & F - No Sleep T'ill X-Mass Bang Crosby - I'm Dreaming Noise Gate - The Magic Sack I've got to say that those that made these songs, they were very inventive. Some of the names used are just hilarious. Claustrophobia? Hilarious. Rudolf The Rednose Ravedeer? Amazing. Bingle Jells? An all time classic title. The songs themselves are as cheesy as you imagine them to be, if you've not heard these songs before. I have, and a billion times at least. They make me happy, and they remind of a time when they experimented with Hardcore and Christmas, which was around 1993 to 1995, if I'm not mistaken. I was around 10 years old, and probably thought this was the coolest thing that has ever been made. Little did I know that I was completely mistaken, and I've changed perspective over the years. But it's still a very jolly mix, and not something you heard that often. It's bad and good at the same time, and as mentioned before, if you took out the Christmas elements, the songs might have actually been all time classics. One of the songs that I still love, is 'The Magic Sack' by Noise Gate. All time classics for me. What's your favourite song in this mix? Leave a comment below, or comment on Soundcloud. Give this mix more praise, and enjoy Christmas this year. Enjoy the next few days, and let HOHH's mix take you through Christmas into the next year! Merry Christmas, you filthy animals! - "D:/CHILDHOOD/TRAUMA/GPF/LIVE/THEPIEPSHOW2023.WAV" I Defqon.1 Weekend Festival 2023 I Friday I UV
From one weird unicorn to two weirdos on Defqon.1 2023. Life is weird, and life can be very unexpected. I didn't go to Defqon.1 this year, as I'm always too damn late in purchasing tickets (I am always seeing posts about events being sold out), but those that did go to it this year, you weren't expecting a big cock boat to float/hoover over you, right? They did the unthinkable, and brought the pinkness to the stage. Not the mainstage yet, but maybe next year? They can dream about it, maybe one day it will happen... I am a fan of GPF and find them quirky as fuck, and I love it. Not everything is a success, but they can make me laugh, whenever I need to be entertained. They make me happy, and seeing them at all these big events, it makes me happy. You might disagree with what they are making and find it ridiculous, and I have to agree with you. Imagine a world without GPF, and it all remains serious and the funny element is gone. But I wouldn't want to live without GPF, the banter is what we need. They did a wonderful job at Defqon.1 this year, and even got Mattie on a boat. How's that for an entrance? The pinkness was seen everywhere, and as standard, there were many blow up dolls, dicks, and condoms They brought the sexiness to the stage, and if an alien would have landed at Defqon.1 and the first thing they were to see, was GPF: would they embrace the pinkness, or return to their home planet, stating Earth cannot be saved, as we are a lost cause? It makes no sense, but so do I. I don't make any sense, and people like/love me still. Hell, I'm married! So I've got at least one fan. GPF have got more fans than ever before, but my wife ain't one of them. Maybe one day I will convert her, but that day isn't near. Maybe in the next century.. Headhunterz - Scrap Attack (Defqon.1 2009 Anthem) (GPF Edit) GPF - Miracle The Lonely Island feat T-Pain - I'm On A Boat GPF & S3RL - Cum Say Henlo GPF & J1zzy - Cummin On Ur Face (Cummy Edit) w/ El Chombo - Chacarron GPF & S3RL & DJ Gollum - Come Inside GPF - Greazy Frog GPF - Farkuador Rooler - MOVE 2 DA BEAT (GPF Remix) Gigi D'Agostino - I'll Fly With You (GPF Edit) Aversion - Activation (GPF Edit) GPF & Levenkhan - ID GPF feat J1zzy - Who's Ur Daddy (Piep Daddy Remix) GPF & D-Fence - Virgin (Kick Edit) GPF - Feeling Blue GPF & Riot Shift - Broccoli Fuck (Kimmercore Rimmercore Piep Fark Remix) Pinkfong - Baby Shark (GPF Edit) GPF & Mind Compressor - Spaghetti Love (Mizz Behave Remix/Spaghettamine Edit) GPF - Numa Numa Backstreet Boys - I Want It That Way w/ GPF - Sloof Lirpa This makes no sense, but who cares? If you watch the YouTube video, you will see everyone loose their minds, and maybe cum in their pants too. I wouldn't argue with that statement, as it's a bit sexy. Not sure what the sexy bit is, but it is sexy. Everyone is having a great time, and especially when GPF trolls the crowd. That's just next level shit. Not the first time they've done that, but it doesn't get old. Will this ever win an award for being awesome? Yes. But it's not about winning awards, it's about winning hearts. People are smiling, and that's all you need to see. The world is already a fucked up place, we need something to liven up the moment. GPF can do that. Sure, I sometimes want my music to be hard, rough, and no nonsense, but every so often I need to have a laugh, a giggle, and seeing two blokes, dressed in pink, on a stage at Defqon.1, ending their set with Sloof Lirpa, that's genius. (Sloof Lirpa is April Fools in reverse, if you haven't noticed it yet). But the best bit of this set wasn't a song. Well, it was the introduction, when they took an already legendary song, and fucked it up. The intro has made me laugh the most! Again, I'll receive some hate for loving GPF, but everyone's entitled to have an opinion. And their music makes me want to touch myself. No other artist has got the power to make me touch myself. Love you, GPF. You have mastered your brand, and your marketing skills are insane! Kudos for those that keep GPF in everyone's pink eye sight. One side note: less microphone. - UOK @ The Qontinent 13/08/2022
I love quirky, and you all know it. If it's something that I could be interested in, I'll listen to it, and if I've got time to write something about it, a review will follow. Over the years I've seen and heard the weirdest shit, but yesterday something appeared on my Soundcloud timeline, something I wasn't ready for, And as said, I do love a bit of weird shit. But a unicorn on ketamine, that's some next level shit. And I can't even describe what it is, I was listening to. It makes no sense, whatsoever... UOK, also known as Unicorn On Ketamine, played at The Qontinent back in 2022. and it played in Area 5, the Uptempo Hardcore area. It's amazing to be asked to play at such an event, especially when you are a horse thing creature. Isn't a unicorn basically a horse with a big stick on its head? Put that creature on ketamine (''Ketamine is for horses, you dumb MF'' - remember that saying?), and you've got something so weird, it's even weird for me. You know I love my weird stuff. I've reviewed many GPF sets over the years, and initially I thought this was a side-project of GPF, but it's not. This is something different, but it resembles the GPF boys a lot. A mask? Check. Piep kicks? Check. Distorted kicks? Check. Fucked up songs? Check. And it gives us an hour of UOK at The Qontinent, which is probably one of the weirdest hours of your life, and once you press play, you won't be able to get that hour back! And it's a weird hour. I've never heard of Unicorn On Ketamine before, but the name now is embedded in my head, for being unique. The set itself is as fucked up as you imagined it to be, but it's had so much love on Soundcloud, can't even see the end of the comment section! UOK - 2021 Intro UOK - Nor For Me UOK - So Say Goodbye UOK feat Andy The Core - Gimme Gimme Gimme Gimme UOK - Hangover (Ketamine Edit) ID - ID UOK - From The Stars UOK - Oh My Horse UOK - Trance UOK - Love Me Again (Rekick) Rebelion feat eDUB & MGK - Reverse Rehab UOK - Tarzan UOK - Wake Up Edit UOK - 6kINE UOK - KALINKA (a.k.a. Seriously fucked up. I cannot describe how weird this is, and what it does to me. In a way it's quirky and funny, and on the other hand it's quirky and too damn silly. It sounds like a hit and miss every so often, but it wouldn't get me off the dancefloor. It can be very intoxicating at the same time, which is good. Truth be told, it does bring some happiness onto the dancefloor, as it is something you don't hear that often, and the sight of someone with a unicorn mask on, that's another thing you don't see that often. Am I wrong in comparing UOK to GPF? It seems that UOK has 'borrowed' a lot of GPF-isms, and made them his own. Both are fucked up, but highly enjoyable, if you open your ears, and let it sink in. Is it perfect? Oh, hell no. There are some songs in here which aren't my cup of tea, but some are genuinely good, and actually very enjoyable! The songs have a bit of both in them. Some songs sound so stupid, you wonder if it's an actual song or just UOK having some banter one day, and releasing the song, and some sound like he put a lot of effort in it, and they actually sound decent enough. UOK 'So Say Goodbye' is a good example. I really like that song, it's different, but fits me well. Would I specifically go to an event and see UOK? Not yet. It is growing on me. Still a long way to go though, but GPF took me a while to get used to. Still worth a follow though. DJ: UOK a.k.a.
